Absolutely wonderful, practical and helpful. I've just discovered de Mello and all of what he says confirms what I suddenly re-realised about this incredible livingness, about 3 years ago now. The stories Tony uses are such an awesome way of helping us to see.
But if he had looked at his eyes reflexions, he would have seen a being, within a being, within a being, within a being, until only light would shine out of the reflexion of his eyes...
He mentions that he taught an entire course on this stuff? Wow. How I would love to take or see such a course(impossible unfortunately, due to his untimely demise). I can't get enough of de Mello. He's given a lot to meditate on indeed.
Until you realize the programming is not "you", and you do not identify with it. Then you will no longer identify with it being "your programming" and you'll be free. :)
In his book Awareness there is more about that stuff. But I have very, very rarely listened to anyone who has been able to show this accurately, how possessed we are by the drugs called approval and popularity. And how empty and meaningless lifes most of us live.
@pirlodk There might be two problems with this type of thinking. First , the idea that enlightment is a goal to be attained in the future, or even that it is a goal to be achieved. Secondly, there is both guilt felt for not being able to achieve it, but there is also fear of achieving it . (I'm not ready yet, but perhaps someday when I overcome my programming). Perhaps taking a few minutes to see & not to think is all that is required to start. & who cares about enlighment?

I wish for us one moment of recognising who we are.
One moment, after we can die. One moment we can die for!
