Sure the kids loved the Peppers. They would have loved ANYONE who had a clean house and was nice to them. The Peppers overstepped. They had to know that being a foster parent is almost always temporary. I'm not sure the Peppers would have been better than the uncle in the long run - their marriage was on shaky ground and the kids were the only thing holding them together. Mrs Pepper was so dependent on the kids... what happens when they grow up and want to have lives of their own?

Blame Patty Pepper, she's the one that got the kids hope up. She's the one that told them their mom was evil and didn't care about them or want them. She's the one that allowed them to call them mom/dad. She over stepped her role as foster parents and the court was completely right in removing the Cain kids. Mainly because mom was sick, but she never gave up her rights to her children, she wanted them and had to get better to get them back. Patty Pepper/Kid lawyer DEAD WRONG in this. jmo

Best choice is to always place the kids with family members first who would love, want, care and provide for them. Second choice of course would have been foster care without terminating the bio-mom rights. If the Mom/Peppers had not gotten involved, the kids would have loved to stayed with their aunt/uncle. Freshass Calie blame the uncle, not realizing mom is the one that prevented him from having them.

I Live in Iowa. And even though all of this took place around ten years ago, the foster care/ adoption system is still fucked up. Legit. My older brother is 25. About two years ago, he got He got sent to jail. Around his 2nd week being there, he found out her had a son. My mom tried adopting him. She didn't get him.. And Because Of Iowa's fucked up foster care, and adoption system, we'll never get to see him again. He'll never know how hard we fought for him.

I don't care what anyone says the peppers showed them more kindness and love than anyone else ever did they made sure that they lived in a decent home and, that they were cared for this is what a good parent does. the whole point of the movie is that this is not about feeling sorry for the mother just because she's mentally ill, this is about the children being in a decent and, loving home with people that love and take care of them.

Being their bio mom doesn't excuse her being a bad mom, and being a loving mom doesn't excuse the foster mom for intentionally badmouthing the mother in front of the kids, interfering with visits, and isolating them from their bio family. Both did wrong by those kids and called it 'love'.

And given that the couple immediately latched onto the idea of adoption before ever hearing a bad word about the mother, this business that it was all about the best interest of the kids is questionable.

It's not up to the social worker to decide where the kids get to be. It was the judge who removed them from their loving home and that was wrong IMO, but Ms Evans had to follow the direction of the court. It was the job of the kids' lawyer to represent their best interests and she did it well, but blame the end result on a flawed system,
