If u wanna dance to this music,well....do not talk about belly dance like its the only variation of dance for this kind of music...Probably Bulgarian traditional dances are suitable for their own music, huh?Does it make any sense to ya,huh? :D :) I dont understand why u have to connect the word ``exotic`` with belly dances mostly....
I found this group and Niyaz through a comment on an Enya vid by this uploader about the bellydance song (Beni Beni) which isn't bellydance either. Just go with the flow, dancers use whatever they are inspired by, including hip-hop and rap, (unfortunately). I'm traditional but would use their music. It is beautiful and her voice makes you want to express those feelings.
@FleursDuPrintemps No, I wouldn't because dancing an Irish dance to it would be practically impossible as the rhythm of this particular dance is completely different. ;)
Ah, but you are not respecting other people's cultures seeing how you are annoyed by the fact people use it for belly dance. Belly dance is a part of arabian culture and there's nothing disrespectful in showing beauties of them both by mixing them in one dance and telling a beautiful story.
Belly dance is belly dance and Bulgarian folk songs are Bulgarian folk songs and according to Youtubers reactions to your comment, I know I'm right and you're wrong.
@FleursDuPrintemps First, fact is: You can belly dance to anything. Especially with theTribal Fusion style. "Respecting" other peoples cultures has nothing to do with keeping them "unmixed" or "pure" from other cultures. Respect is often shown by embracing. YOU are doing a diservice to the culture by not letting other culture mix and mingle with it. Its call tolerance. Learn it.
Secondly... Tex-mex was a mixing of cultures in food... and guess what.. it freakin rocks.
@ralphyboy25 How right you are...although Mozart rocked the opera world when he presented his German operas to Vienna, they ultimately were accepted. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this is all people could find to argue about?
Belly dance as much as you want and to anything you want, that will never turn the moon into green cheese : Bulgarian music is not Belly dance music and that will change when Hell freezes over.
@FleursDuPrintemps I dunno why you keep insisting on what this is and isnt. The artist, in this case, the belly dancer can make it whatever they want. If it brings them joy to dance in a manner they know, who are you to tell them they shouldn't? Metal and Opera by alrights shouldn't be mixed but Within Temptation makes it beautiful to those with an open mind. Free yours, maybe you wouldn't see things so black and white. It'll enrich your life.
BTW, political correctness and multiculturalism are not my cup of tee. I'm not the kind of person who uses Celtic traditionnal tunes to do the Sirtaki.
@FleursDuPrintemps Close minds and moronic thoughts of intolerance aren't my cup of tea, but no matter how hard I fight against it.. theres still going to be people who practice it... case and point. However, I have learned that that which does not affect me in a malcious way isnt something I should worry about. Dance is hardly malicious or mean spirited in anyway. Something you, I think, would do well to learn yourself.
'Feel better now that you've showed me agressivity and rudeness?
Rejecting a mistake is not intolerance. Bulgarian traditionnal songs are not to be called "bellydance music". Do a belly dance, or even hip hop tricks on it if that makes your day, that's not the point, but don't claim it's bellydance music. You could belly dance on a Bluegrass tune as well. Would that make it "bellydance music"? Nope.
Listen guys, you can use whatever you want to do whatever you want. You can dance Tango on a Heavy Metal song if you enjoy it. But You cannot call a Bulgarian folk music a "belly dance music". Respect things as they are.
The iranian Azam Ali is perfect, she's singing bulgarian folklore as if she've lived all of her life here - in my Bulgaria, I'm really proud with this masterpiece. :)
I don't think that it's bad to use this music for a belly dance performance, I love Vas, and Niyaz, I dance 7 differnt styles of belly dance, but these days I dance Fusion styles as my lead type of dance, I have a festival coming up to perform for and a hafla and I plan to use Vas and Niyaz music, I think Azam Ali is a beautiful amazing singer, I'm not sure about it's connection with middle eastern dance, the sounds and tone of music by the band can be used for belly dance, if the dancer is good
I do not want to sound negative, but I’ve never heard any tribe in the history of Bulgaria using belly dance for making rituals. The new “reading” of the folklore music is a must, but if done careful and with respect to its origin. I really like that version of “Izgrejala”, but personally connecting the folklore song with belly dances sounds ridiculous to me. No offense and enjoy the music!
@asonexa This is why the people who use this song to dance dance "tribal FUSION bellydance", it's all about mixing cultures, music and dances together to get something as meaningful as it is beautiful. Actually it's far from ridiculous
@asonexa Hehehe, man, you are right, but, you see, in the age of internet peoples don't longer care about traditions everything is mixed up, i don't know if it`s something wrong but also don't think is something good i just accept that the cultures travel, world is a brownian movement so it was from the very begginings of humanity. Lyrics!!!: Izgreyala yazna svezda Birnalam birsalam Salam salam kazlaram Gel vido gel nedo Gel mi gel mi gel Nay mi bila yazna svezda Birnalam … Nay mi bila malka moma Birnalam …Iiiiiiiii!
Is it ok that most songs I listen to I don't even care what the lyrics are being told, and still appreciate the music for what it is anyways and for what I hear? I really wish I knew the lyrics, but at the same time I think it's absolutely perfect as it is, an instrumental to me. 1 that brings some pretty powerful emotions at surface, at that.
I was also trying to google the lyrics but I fail. It sings about a girl who was mistaken with a shining star. But the chorus I can not really hear what is it concretely, I think is some turkish words

Thracia's existence, Slavs influence, Byzantine's rule, and Ottomon's rule help carve out what it is today.
Whatever. Don't have time for discussian now. Not only wikipedia. There is entire new look of the proto bulgars history. The turkic theory is soviet one and completly without evidences. Have you ever heard of the bulgarian calendar?
I looked at a few. I've seen pretty much the same stuff.
"The new Bulgarian state united Proto-Bulgarians, Slavs and the native population, which consisted mainly of Thracians."
"The Proto-Bulgarians inhabited the regions to the north of the Caucasus in close neighbourhood with Georgians and Armenians during the fourth century. They belonged to the Turkic ethno-linguistic group and were kindred in tongue to the Huns, Khazars and Avars."
Ancient Bulgarian calender on Wikipedia links it to Chinese and makes a connection in this way. 12 animals each representing a different 'era'. What of it?
It is older then the chinese. and is more accurate than the gregorian calendar used today. Anyway You can find the original of that song in my videos. The song is called GEL MOMA, not Izgrejala.
Most of the sources I've found that regard the Ancient Bulgarian Calender have either from Wikipedia or some biased website source like the Bulgarian Student Association or whatever. There's quite a few calenders of the ancient world that are more accurate than ours. Take the Mayan's. There's is only off by 42 seconds.
The Mayan is less accurate. The Ancient Bulgarian Calendar is the oldest in the world. :-) I don't know what student societies are you talking about. This is very serious matter. It's on UNESCO list of Ancient Monuments.
I have seen a few posts of some sort of Proto-Bulgarian calender being called by UNESCO as the most accurate. I am not entirely convinced but I am not doubting the possibility either. I personally did not see it posted on UNESCO website no matter where I looked.
I do think Bulgaria is an interesting place to visit though. Maybe in the future, I'll visit it.
Most of the Bulgarian intelligence doubt for a long time. Those are quite new theories. The scientific proves came later. There are groups of BG historians who still are not convinced about the iranian theory. But it is demonstration of their stupidity.
