  • homer simpsons favourite band ever

  • The phony rock groups of today have no idea what a rock song is about. These guys were rock all the way through.

  • @TeddyLeper Thank you! Exactly!

  • This is super cool! I love how the who are always so energetic! Its soo amazing!

  • These guys Rock

  • KEITH FUCKING MOON!!!!!!!! <3

  • @71thewho I wouldn't consider the other three "quite calm"... But in comparison, Saying Keith Moon is only a little crazy would be saying that the other three are the calmest guys alive!

  • Not only does he look all white, he dances like he's all white ;)

  • Greatest, most powerful, take no prisoners rock and roll!!!

  • Not anymore he's not!

  • "Who is that guy going insane behind the drums while the other three members are quite calm?" says a random person. "Why that is the greatest drummer ever" says a Who fan "just watch and admire his skill" R.I.P Keith

  • i was there 1st gig 1st time i ever took speed great day night life changing experience

  • daltry in fine shape he never sacraficed the performance by getting drunk and fat

  • "I look all white but my dad was black". Back in the 60's this line caught our attention. It was something new that wasnt spoken of. Radical.

  • 11 people still need to substitute their lies for facts

  • I was there and still got the programme and the ticket, happy days

  • Daltrey's hair was the J. Bieber hair of the 70s

  • One band you'll always wish you saw live?

    THE WHO

  • @thmslncc

I saw them live in Brussels in 1973 and they were shite. One of the greatest disappoinments in my life. The sound was shite, they quarreled onstage, and Daltrey even refused their final collective bow.AND my right ear has malfunctioned ever since.Love them still, though.

  • I was fortunate enough to be there at the time... great festival and gig by the one and only Who..... les mayers

  • I like this version b/c you can really here Entwistle's bass very well

  • I had this random song play in my head today, and this made my day. Thank you very much!

  • sex pistols' version of it, isn't that bad too

  • @estupidelavida lol It's horrible but it's fun.

  • I love that bass in the end..and throughout the entire song ofcourse:)

  • Still get goosebumps and I just turned 60. Thank god for The Who. Best thing about YouTube is I can watch WHO clips. This is my g-g-g-g generation too!

  • R.I.P. John and Keith!!

  • Webt on camping to lake roosevelt and the Coulee area, the only CD we had was The Who's greatst hits album... I listebd to the Who for about 3 days... Greatst rock band on earth...

  • damn, john!!! thats tons of distortion! thats why i use it. lol

  • I can't even hear Townshend, I'm too busy listening to the Ox bring down the thunder.

  • Keith Killed it with that one arm on the air roll

  • I was there and it remains the best ever. I now live in Charlton and think of that night many times, passing The Valley.

    Behind Blue Eyes...all time best.

  • T...The best rock band ever!

    H...Horsepower!

    E...Eternal!

W...What would we do without them!

    H...Heavenly!

    O...Omnipotent!

  • I got to see the Who with Keith Moon back during the "who by numbers" tour in the 70's. Gotta say these guys were the greatest live band ever. Live at Leeds greatest live album of all time.

  • the bass in the song really takes the show

  • yeah entwistles #1 bassist in the world (was)

  • Agreed. LOVE the bass line.

  • who is the who???????????????????

  • The Who greatest live band ever!

  • watching the ox on bass makes me shed a tear so much talent gone 6/27/02 damn shame R.I.P John Alec Entwistle

  • Happy Birthday Rodger!!! 3-1-2010

  • Couldn't agree more. It was the day before my 16th birthday. Lou Reed and Bad Co were pretty cool too that day!

  • I wish I were up there too... did they destroy the scene at the end of the gig ??

  • @saimon1969 If you were then up there, you'd be deaf now ;)

  • I was there!! Standing dead centre, front row....a great gig!!

  • The Fleeting Ends will be doing this at their show at MilkBoy Coffee in Ardmore on Feb. 4th. If you live in Philly, you should go...

  • Ahahahahahahahahahaha I love the who

Keith moon R.I.P u will always be the the drummer with the mist swager

  • doesnt this song come out in School of Rock when Jack Black is his van when he was parking in the school? well anyway i love The Who :D

  • Yes.

  • john entwistle always is wearing somethign awesome

  • @Drcman95 just a testament to his badassness

  • @Drcman95 Because he wanted to be noticed on camera. In the late sixties, he never was.

  • @scrabalabadingdong63 Say why wasnt the camera ever on John in the early sixties??? i mean why??? is there a reason, the guy only changed the way people looked at the bass guitar forever and is the GOD OF BASS.

    So why do you think???

  • @mrtamberineman123 First off, I said LATE sixties, (lolfail) and he was never filmed because the only body parts he move were his fingers, and they thought that he wasn't doing anything interesting.

  • @Drcman95 one of the best dressed men in rock at that time thats for sure

  • @Drcman95 not to mention the way he plays :P

  • John was combing his hair before they went on stage I have it in DVD as if 200 000 is gonna notice a starnd of hair messed up...What a legend!!! Long Live The Who

  • Tube "Bloom" is a popular adjective to describe a certain tone unique to tube amps. At 29 seconds, Pete's HiWatts are giving a perfect demo of this. Listen to those overworked EL34s! Killer.

  • i mean, musically of course

  • that time wouldve been perfect...the who in their best shape...and the ramones were in their baby shoes =)

  • I was there!! Great fucking show ...AND the Sensational Alex Harvey Band were on too. What a day ..what a memory!!!!!

  • If these guys had been just a little bit more main stream ..They would have fucked the Beatles off..Chief Muppet

  • They were much more English sounding than the beatles and not as poppy.Hard to be mainstream without sucking to a degree I used to love the beatles like when I was 15-20.I still love the Who though into my 40's.

  • Was this the concert that entered the Guinness Book of Records as the worlds loudest ? As a kid I had an edition of that book and seem to remember this location....... but it may have been a different date ?

  • OK - should have read ALLcomments first :-) The loudest concert was 76 in same location.....

  • I think this is the show they were the loudest rock band in the world. They have always been the greatest live rock band in the world. John Entwistle was voted BASSIST OF THE MILLENIUM

  • did their amps go to eleven? haha

  • Pete's Gibson sounds really hot through those overworked HiWatts! Clean tone, true..but a "hot" kind of clean.

  • I was There Great day

  • Greatest LIVE BAND ever!

  • ooooo.....sparkly jacket :D

    i wish i were there :(

i wasnt even born then! lol

    WooWHO FOR THE WHO

  • I remember when they used this clip in 1977 on Top of The Pops (TOTP) when The Who re- released Substitute on a 12" single with Pictures of Lily as a B side.

Oh, and my sister went to this concert at Charlton FC in 1974; the following day she bought Quadrophenia and 'Meaty, Beaty Big and Bouncy' and I've been a fan ever since!

  • hey cool!!! i have NEVER seen John roll before!!

    thats is so cool :D

i want to roll on the floor now

    The Who forever!!!

  • That was Keith rolling. John would never do that with a bass in hand.

  • john would never roll period. XD

  • not to break ur spirits or be a smart ass, but i dont think it was him, he had his bass b4 and the guy that rolled had nothing... still it would b kewl to see him roll lol

  • I could live to be 120 and I would never get tired of The Who! Love them forever.

  • lol, but once u get a day older than that you'll be bored as hell

  • This is awesome but I have to say that the Live at Leeds version is the best performance of Substitute. I really wish there was some video footage of that.

  • i prefer the 1966 version this ones great and i love the who but tje older version just seems to "flow" better lol this one sounds a bit choppy and maybee forced and i understand they did it on purpose it sounds great just....choppy lol great song

  • Quite possibly the best song ever.....each of them is at their best at this point.....this version proves the Who perfected that art of imperfection.....there is no substitute for these guys.....It's real music

  • agree with

    jakercabase2

  • I notice the drums play, that's Four hands effort, You know, Drums is the best in the who.

  • Roger, Pete, Keith, and John. Greatest starting line-up ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is so fucking awesome. The real Rock.

  • who are the who ??? just kidding lol

  • Historic !

    Thanks for posting

  • great song

  • John Entwistle, best bassist who ever lived

  • we are mods!!!!!!!!!!

  • KEITH MOON - GREATEST DRUMMER TO EVER WALK THE EARTH.

JOHN ENTWISTLE - THE GREATEST BASS PLAYER TO EVER WALK THE EARTH

PETE TOWNSEND - THE GREATEST SONGWRITER TO EVER WALK THE EARTH.

ROGER DALTREY - THE GREATEST VOCALIST TO EVER WALK THE EARTH.

What a band they were! they were like a big pile of TALLENT.

Without a doubt one of the greatest bands ever.

  • cldnt agree more

  • Too right and Townsend's not a bad guitarist either :)

  • Too right well in the back of my mind i have always loved Petes style of guitar playing, i was just being arogant when i said all of those nasty things about him.

Anyway i more look up to Pete as one of the best songwriters and composers of the century.

  • No-One could it say batter, you're totally right!

  • @mrtamberineman123 AMEN!

  • @mrtamberineman123 i agree 100% but it's a shame they don't have more good songs, i know i'll probably get slayed for saying this, but considering the amount of talent they have i think some of their songs like "boris the spider" are dissapoiting.

  • @lees2oo8

Anyone who had listened to The Who more than just casually would know they have one of the deepest catalogs of monstrous hits and killer tracks in rock and roll - anyone who'd toss up a novelty Entwistle track as if it's representative of The Who's sound is not worth slaying, but consider yourself rebuked at the very least

  • @mrtamberineman123 YES SIR!!!!!!!

  • @mrtamberineman123 soo true

  • @mrtamberineman123 Just like Red Hot Chili Peppers

  • @mrtamberineman123 Correct

  • @mrtamberineman123 yes it is they are pile of talent while the presents like bieber or miley cyrus is a pile of SHIT!!

  • PETE TOWNSHEND FT FUCKING W!

  • i have to disagree, try listening to my generation, or anything from the "live at killburn" concert. baba o riley, wont get fooled again, pinball wizard, or tommys holiday camp, who are you, the list goes on. the who are an amazing band

  • greatest live band in the world!

  • the who rulessssss

  • where i can do the download this show?

  • Hey...I was there!

  • llllluuuuCCCCKKKKKYYYY!!!!

  • Moments before this video starts you can see Keith Richards walking up the stairs to the stage with his drug buddy Keith Moon!

  • But can't complain about Moon's job here, dont think bread and water would have made it any better anyways in that motor, RIP Moonie!

  • best band ever....not even a question

  • ooh soon 100 00 views!! come on you whoo fans, we have to reach 100 thousand before sunday or what!?!!!

  • dont you have anything better to do ?? than writing these shit

  • is it me or was john entwistle a very underrated bass player?

  • he is easily the best bassist of them all!

  • he's the best, but i think everyone knew that (unless i'm mistaken) so i don't think he was underrated

  • that was the loudest concert ever!

  • It`s true, they were the loudest till breakup in 83

  • you see when moonie comes on-stage - he does a somersault!! god only knows what he takes before the show.....

  • It's a drug called purple heart. One of the bad drugs, and a lot of it, unfortunitly.

  • He took so much drugs before a concert, and when the other guys around told him he was insane, he said " I'M KEITH MOON !"

  • if you watch keith bio, keith once took 25 purple hearts in one swoop! 25 dropped! now thats impressive...

  • what exactly were purple hearts?(I mean the drug, not the military award)

  • drynamil

  • They are the best.

  • They are so good.

  • us older guys from the 60's and 70's aren't all levitra and yellowing teeth!

  • Never underrated the who, up there with the best since the 60's.

  • Timeless!!!

  • I was at this concert waht a day, also on the bill Bad Company and Humble Pie - brilliant.

  • Queste erano le vere rockstars, mica i tokio hotel e minchioni vari che infestano il mondo. Mi viene da piangere...perche non sono nata negli anni '60?

  • I look all white but my dad was black lol

  • Brutal bass sound !!!

  • long live hiwatt!

  • LOVE THE WHO-they rock! So underrated then and now-they are one of the very best rock bands ever-not easy songs to sing for Roger either-yet he is a master!

  • love the sound of moonies snare! Gretsch snares ftw, Premier are still the best though lol!

  • Yeah definitely, I love the snare sound of that era. Nowadays they seem to have a dull thud of a sound, but not the Who!

  • la storia del rock...

  • Loudest show ever

  • look at this energy!!! and the band didn't even remember that evening..."however much I boozeeee!!" love it!!

  • Moon the Loon's set is amazing!!

  • I LOVE DID SOND LOL

  • Jez I was at this gig it was my first Big Gig & I was 15.Vague Memories are that i got sunburnt & that Montrose,

Bad Company Lou Reed & Humble Pie were brill

Pie probably best on the day.Oh i missed the last bus home & slept in a bus shelter in Peckham.

  • Jhon bass lines are really good, for real

  • We had a guitar class in school and I'd play this song everyday on my bass, they never did kill me after hearing it so much! lol!

  • it was an amazing day lou reed was good

  • lol my birthday is May 22 4 days after petes

  • Crazy. Every one of them.

why do all the modern musicians have to be sane?

  • rock beats paper. paper beats scissors. money beats art. and everything else

  • ...wait, paper doesn't beat scissors! damn. but money does!

  • ...and rock doesnt beat paper o.o

  • i know. never type youtube comments when wasted

  • I love that little bass line Entwisle has at 3.04.

  • Any chicks out there that are Who fans?

  • Yes but as we know "There are no girls on the internet"

  • YEAH! I love The WHo. And this is like my favorite song.

  • meeeeeeeee

  • AH Go Thunderfingers! LOL The Who Rules!

  • This was a GREAT song for high school "Friday night in the gym concerts" by garage bands in the early 70's

  • Substitute is one of my top five favorites.

along with Slip Kid, Baba O'Reiley, The Seeker, and I Can't Explain

  • they are freakin amazing! <333

  • i love the who

  • Entwistle rules. Just listen to that genius.
