I was reading an article by Alexa Chung who said she went to a casting and was told 'the look this season is anorexic, we don't want you to be anorexic, just look it'. I personally don't think clothes look good on models, they just hand off them, I'd rather see a girl who fits into the clothes, it's a shame for the girls. Isn't the model in this video one of the sisters who died after suffering from anorexia? I could be wrong but I think it is.
@wiolikescats I had anorexia when I was 15 and let me tell you, there's no way in hell anyone can look like that if they're not starving themselves. And besides, even if most of the models aren't anorexics (i.e mentally ill), they propably have A LOT of pressure to eat next to nothing. Most "naturally skinny" people are used to eating too little, because the only way someone can look that skinny (and unhealthy) is by eating less than you'd need to.

I used to have anorexia and bulimia about for two years and I can't believe I used to think this was beauty. So many young girls and boys die from this every year and it's sad really, I wish everyone could just be happy the way they are <3

This is what happens to alot of girls who get signed at top New York agencies. They are naturally thin but they learn by observing they will get more work if they get thinner. They are rewarded with more work so they keep losing more. Many have to quit because they were not eating enough to even have a bowel movement, their hair falls out etc. They become anorexic because of the industry's current effed up aethstetic of deadly thin.

start working out and learn about diet. lift weights (yes ladies need to do this or they will be just skin and bones when lean). I promise you, put the right combination and timing of protein, carbs and fats together, you will be gold. this is probably not what you want to hear, you will probably keep doing what you are doing and not get anywhere.
They design them for smaller sized women because they look better going down a runway. Models are models because of their height and natural thiness, they make the cloths look good.
Obviously you'll never be succesful if you don't design for real models.

For a designer its all about showing his designs in the way he or she invisioned it. they are not just selling clothes they are artist that create a look. if only railthin people could wear those clothes they wouldn't sell any. even couture is later on sold in bigger sizes to. I never heard one designer say that his costumers had to be as thin as the model, she just has to show the clothes and that does look better on a walking wirehanger.
Clothes MAIN purpose is to be worn by people. If they look best on hangers, or the closest mobile equivalent, then they don't meet their BASIC purpose. That means those clothes are poorly designed. start working out and learn about diet. lift weights (yes ladies need to do this or they will be just skin and bones when lean). I promise you, put the right combination and timing of protein, carbs and fats together, you will be gold. this is probably not what you want to hear, you will probably keep doing what you are doing and not get anywhere.

I blame DESIGNERS for making thier clothes too small and designing for a pre-pubscent body shape.

They design them for smaller sized women because they look better going down a runway. Models are models because of their height and natural thiness, they make the cloths look good.

Obviously I WILL be successful because the model figure is the MINORITY of women in the worlds figure - the MAJORITY of women have tits and an ass, and HIPS! I have a much larger client base. Than say the tiny 1% of women who are 23" waist, 33"hips, 5"11 in height and rich... How many women do you PERSONALLY know like that. very few.

Not really, I'm saying if you don't naturally look like that then you never will. So there for there is not point trying. Most of the people that are selected to be models don't even want to model, they are usually the shy and intellectual girls that have no pride in their appearance. Why would you want to be that size anyway if you're not a model?? The reason I know so little is because they are rare...that's why they are models. I don't think NORMAL women look beautiful this thin.

I have to disagree with you on this one. For a designer its all about showing his designs in the way he or she invisioned it. they are not just selling clothes they are artist that create a look. if only railthin people could wear those clothes they wouldn't sell any. even couture is later on sold in bigger sizes to. I never heard one designer say that his costumers had to be as thin as the model, she just has to show the clothes and that does look better on a walking wirehanger.

Clothes MAIN purpose is to be worn by people. If they look best on hangers, or the closest mobile equivalent, then they don't meet their BASIC purpose. That means those clothes are poorly designed. And people forget that clothes looked GREAT on people 100 years ago, 200 years ago. Designers then didn't need rail thin models. Hack designers.

We see a LOT of tween girls with eating disorders (work in an ER in Atlanta), and it makes me grumpy.
BMI is a poor indicator. Have to pay attention to fat % as well as ability to resist illness & recover from exercise.

The fat supplies the calories & little else. So if you start exercising without taking in protein, you will take fat for calories, and canabalize muscle for AA's. Gotta have protein & some fat while losing weight to maintain muscle mass.
According to BMI, I am obese, which is funny @ 8% fat. Poor standard.

i wont go into my feelings on size zero thin, but i think, from a fashion standpoint, it is better to have thin, fit women showing the clothes, but certainly not skeletal, the clothes don't wear well on the bony frames, if i were a designer I would prefer women with bodies similar to an athlete's to show my creations. bones dont flatter any dress, in my personal opinion..

I know we shouldn't judge by weight, but people, we have to understand that models are supposed to be a figure to the public. That is the reason why we don't want people that are too skinny or too fat in the catwalks. Models are supposed to have healthy bodies, and anorexia is not a way, the only healthy way is exercising and proper alimentation :)
