Rage Graphics Glitches with ATI AMD Catalyst 11.9

If you don't want to revert your CCC because of other games, etc. (like me) just put a file called atigolxx, extracted from an old version of CCC, into your rage directory. This is something to do with OpenGL.

What do you do when you start seeing more badly done, badly designed or unstable games on any hardware and software. You boycott the companies, orgs etc.

You make a list of who is behind the games and stop buying from them. And you do not back down or go soft and fall for any public statements or promises of patches of theirs. Unless you see results they get nothing.

Ignore all this crap about ATI vs Nvidia or "bad drivers". Its all a throw off.

Try using 11.6 seems to fix stuff for some people..im using 11.10 though

i3, HD5770, 4gb RAM, framerate constantly over 60. Yesterday it was 17-18fps. All you have to do is install new ATI Catalyst 11.10 which is available at official amd website. They released it 3 days ago, still beta i think but it works great. Before installing new drivers game was horrible, late texture showing, extremely low frame rate. Just update Catalyst and game will work. Graphic could be better,there's no tesselation.. but atmosphere is COOL. Especially mission with defibrilator upgrade:)

i am a Nvidia user and i don't have many issues with my card,but Nvidia is more expensive than ATI and some ATI cards have better performance at a lower price. I still prefer NVIDIA (better cooling and drivers).ATI has a lot OF PROBLEMS WITH DRIVERS,and compatibility with games, for example i had my NV GTS 8800 640x320 for 3 years and i did everything with it including playing a game 24 hours i've left Hellgate running on my pc 12 hours because i was at a party, i miss that card

@OVOX0 Well to be fair, I think half the blame is on AMD for releasing a broken driver, days before the Rage release. The original hotfix had the wrong OpenGL driver which made the game perform even worse. But I agree, id obviously didn't invest the necessary resources in testing on the PC version. It is a shame.

Only thing i can tink off is the driver that you can setup a game like you want.

That is what you get for trying to play a game that requires the PhysX engine to run properly, with a comp that uses an ATI card that cannot utilize the PhysX engine. Me and 15 people all have installed this game on various systems with various Nvidia cards and none of us have problems. Oh yeah, we also do not jack up our graphics to the point our system cannot handle the game either. And anyone else, STOP USING AN ATI CARD FOR THE GAME AND AN NVIDIA CARD FOR PHYSX IT DOESN'T WORK.

it works fine for me no issue i have Nvidia N465 gtx twin frzer installed and i have no issue but i do carre about others and RAGE game, and Bethesda has problesms with coding and i will not buy skyrim for that ,......yes you are right...NOTE i've installed RAGE 30 mins ago and i do not have the same problems ...the one thing that bugs me is that it has 3 dvd and i do not understand why........and yes my game is legit , buyed it on retail here it was released on 7.10.11

This game was supposed to look good. Well, thanks ID. To all pc users out there, don't buy this game until all of this has been fixed. Really, playing the game now will make you want to kill your cat because of all the glitches.

My ATI 6950 2GB seems fine after hotfixes

Also I play with controller to Avoid fast movement

I had to Apply Forced Vsync for smooth image movement

Il go and buy a GTX 560, but the other Games are running perfectliy and smooth with my HD 5770 and my AMD Phenom II X4 @ 3.40 GhZ with

@Blackflunk2 Heh. I was a long time nvidia user but needed to upgrade my computer, so I bought ATI, the first card failed and the scond ATI card I bought also failed bad. I didn't think it would be such a big contrast between amd and nvidia, but it is! If you don't want problems buy nvidia. ATI cards ain't bad when they run, but there's always problems getting it to run.

@jollybest1 Since after Morrowind - the ONLY thing that has driven Bethesda is money. They took Elderscrolls and turned it into fast money. They raped Fallout for all it was worth. Now they rush iD to release a game without any decent testing what so ever so they can feed the fat fucks at Zenimax new yachts and rolexes. Getting a refund and never buying any game connected to Bethesda ever again. Fucking pricks.

I'm having this problem too. But you know, after playing this game for a while and seeing just how the NPC's move and how the gameplay is, I'm really excited to see the future games. iD soft may have failed with this game (according to what people have been saying), but it still opens the door to the future. Let's just hope Skyrim isn't released before they fully debug it. And maybe Bethesda can learn from this.

Carmack should have stuck with id Tech 4. It was a great engine. Rage could have easily be done with it. It would have even looked better than it looks now.

@llJAFYll That's because you have a weak GFX card. I have a an i5 OC @ 3.8ghz + an ATI 5850 and I'm running it in Eyefinity mode (5040 x 1050). Haven't had any glitches whatsoever and frame rate is above 50fps constant.

@circuschris2880 well the hd 5670 is more than enough to handle ID tech 5 engine... I was getting 60 fps with brink so why not with Rage lol. If the console versions are playing this game at 60 fps while my computer rapes all other console games' framerate by twice as much, there is something wrong with the port. I already got alot of the issues fixed by installing the ati hotfix, running this game at 50-60 fps. The only problem now are the texture pop-ins.

@llJAFYll Well you have a point, the texture pop in is annoying even with the update and 11.10 amd drivers, but this is I think largely due to the way the tech 5 engine balances textures based on available video memory. If you have equal to or more than 1.5 gb vram I think if you search google there is info on creating a custom config that forces 8mb textures on all the time.

AMD and Bethesda need to get a handle on this.

Ati 5870. Absolutely horrible screen taring, NPCs pop in and out making it difficult to track them. UNPLAYABLE! Downloaded Hotfix and still had same issues perhaps even a bit more issues. If i stand still the game looks awesome lol Really should be criminal to release a game with this many problems and everyone is having them, what kind of testers did ID use? None?

@213Hybrid Yeah there is a RAGE-specific hotfix from ATI but it didn't help, and actually only made the game slower.

@saintaureus I'm not getting these issues myself but from what I've heard they've released another patch which has replaced the old files which they mistakenly left in the software.

I've also heard it's primarily happening on AMD/ATI hardware as NVIDIA users are reporting these issues less frequently.

@SqueeksoAo Yes I did uninstall everything. I'm using the updated hotfix and it seems to work pretty good, although the driver is very unstable. Other OpenGL games (e.g. Minecraft) won't run with it.

@BuckFastZombie Texture pop-in I can't rarely see anymore, if I turn really really fast I'll see a texture pop in for about 1/4 of a second, but normally playing it's pretty much perfect.

I'm using 2 HD6950 2GB in Crossfire, but the second card doesn't even see any activity!

I'll PM you what I did specifically.
