If they released the game based on the chronological order of the story, then it would've been boring. By releasing the games like this, it gave new information in a creative way. One of the major problem people have with this game is the character of Xion. In reality, to a big fan of the game and story, she plays a big part like Kairi or Namine. I know she does play a big role in the current story and she will play a big part in the upcoming games such as KH: 3D

Not just kill heartless, kill heartless, and kill heartless in the same worlds. And also they picked the worst worlds possible! I'd rather play in Tarzan's Simba's or even Ariel's world instead
I don't mind the repetition at all! The story covers it up just fine and I would give it a 9.5 out of 10. I do not recommend this for gamers who decide to play it out of boredom. You have to at least play kingdom hearts 1 and II to make it worthwhile. It is a very strong game that will give a message to the heart. FYI: it has a very strong tendency to make people cry!!

it's maybe weird, but I found this the best KH game, not much new music indeed but the theme it did bring along was absolutely wonderfull and the best KH theme ever (xion theme) also the mysteries evolving around Xion and the plans for Roxas really where exciting, though it was a really slow story indeed, you'd have to beat like fifty days before a new breakthrough in the story, and the missions do get boring after a while, luckily the end makes up for it!

There wasn't much emphasis on the story here. Even though it leans heavily on previous games, and can get a little confusing in places, I found the central relationships of the game to be really touching, and this probably ranks as one of the few games that has almost brought me to tears during some scenes. The penultimate battle was just amazing (I loved how there was sad music contrasting with the fight itself).

It always kinda bugged me how this game uses the same enemy models but recolors then and resizes them and makes those new enemies. Why not just upgrade the Heartless as you get further in the game like any other kingdom hearts games? *Sigh* I love kingdom hearts, but for some reason I always find myself hating on this game... It's actually a good game... just my least favorite KH game.
Well, I never played any of the other games, because I didn't have the consols to do so, but I still enjoyed alot this one. Yes, it takes a while to understand what's going on, but then again, you can have a lot of fun out of it

@BobaTeaSunflower Well, you will be lost. But that doesnt mean you wont enjoy it. This game takes place between chain of memories and Kingdom hearts 2. You will be lost for the most part of the game, but the story itself is a stand alone experience from the series and you will enjoy it none the less. I can recomend this game to anyone who owns a ds, with or withought knowlege of past games. Some orientation is recommended though, and if possible, try to play at least KH chain of memories for GBA
I played all the other kingdom hearts games and i still get confused sometimes so i really recommend starting with "kingdom heart" the original on ps2 then go to the game made next and so on OR you could try going with the game's timeline which starts with kingdom hearts birth by sleep.. trust me it's definitely worth it!

I would give it 8.5 because the cut-scenes are... well I didn't think would be so impressive with the detail and the story doesn't speak for itself. you really have to play every game before KH3 or you won't get it.

@Harnikawa Kingdom Hearts is very story driven, this is one of the worst games to have the 1st experience with because it really covers so much details and conspiracies that can only be fully explained by playing the other games. If you are still confused try playing KH1,KH2 and Birth By Sleep after playing these you should get 80% of whats happening.
You could tell that this reviewer was really digging super-hard to try and find flaws, but most of them turned out to be nit-picking on little details, especially considering that the back-story the game was explaining made the fact that you're traversing all the same worlds make perfect SENSE.

i love all kingdom hearts games and this is great cuz it has the melancholic and lonely feeling the dark side of kingdom hearts. yeah the game is really heavy at the first time and being at twiligth town in the beggining is really boring but the game is a challenge not like the others kingdom hearts xD (except Chain of memories that was my firs game and is really hard) love roxas :D
as others said getting the psp for bbs is def worth it. and the NGP( ps vita) is only download based, so birth by sleep isn't even an option, u can only play on the psp

Although I do believe some of the gameplay is sloppy, I think this is definitely by far the best story that Kingdom Hearts had ever done- EVER. That's what makes it my favorite, either that or Birth by Sleep.

Don't get me wrong, it's my top favorite ds game, second being re:coded. But it's so repetitive. There's only a handfull of enemies. Most of them just have different colors and you always have to so the same kinds of missions. Still a very good game though. Saddest ending if you ask me. Pretty much nothing worked out for Roxas :(

I enjoyed this game for a while, liked the retro combat system and customization, but after half way through it, it just got too boring. Playing the same worlds and locations over and over again, along with missions that seem like busy until I actually get to the next meaningful dialogue, really killed it for me.

I even played Chain of memories on GBA, was pretty cool but nothing compared to the PS2 games. Square enix really did a good job making the kingdom hearts series, they easily became my fav games. I hope they put in as much effort into KH3 as the previous games, because then we all know it'll be great.

Well, I never played any of the other games, because I didn't have the consols to do so, but I still enjoyed alot this one. Yes, it takes a while to understand what's going on, but then again, you can have a lot of fun out of it

kingdom hearts, for me, is by far the best game EVER.. only problem is.. WRONG CONSOOOOLES!!! seriously why not make those games on xbox360 and ps3?!?! they started with ps2 then GBA then ps2 again then PSP then DS and soon 3D DS..
however, even if it was on atari i'm still playing it and i'm still loving it because the story is simply enough :D

I've never played any of the Kingdom Hearts games, but I really want to play this one. Will I really be utterly lost and not enjoy this game at all?

@BobaTeaSunflower Well, you will be lost. But that doesnt mean you wont enjoy it. This game takes place between chain of memories and Kingdom hearts 2. You will be lost for the most part of the game, but the story itself is a stand alone experience from the series and you will enjoy it none the less. I can recomend this game to anyone who owns a ds, with or withought knowlege of past games. Some orientation is recommended though, and if possible, try to play at least KH chain of memories for GBA

I played all the other kingdom hearts games and i still get confused sometimes so i really recommend starting with "kingdom heart" the original on ps2 then go to the game made next and so on OR you could try going with the game's timeline which starts with kingdom hearts birth by sleep.. trust me it's definitely worth it!

Well, I'd give it 8.5 or 9 because i have played the game and a bit of the other series, if you played a bit or kingdom hearts 1 and 2 then you'll know that Roxas is sora's nobody, and so on but the line is, if you got bored of the music,combat and want something new when the KH francise is fine the way it is why play it.Don't just make a review on a game series you were tired of.Obviously, he wasn't fully tired of KH hes still a fan just a little tired of combat mechanics and music choice

I would give it 8.5 because the cut-scenes are... well I didn't think would be so impressive with the detail and the story doesn't speak for itself. you really have to play every game before KH3 or you won't get it.

@ssgogetaunlimited calm down. the ds's hardware cant really have ps2 graphics. and it isnt nintendo's fault either. u have to at least admit the cinematic cutscenes were on par with the ps2 graphics.

@Harnikawa Kingdom Hearts is very story driven, this is one of the worst games to have the 1st experience with because it really covers so much details and conspiracies that can only be fully explained by playing the other games. If you are still confused try playing KH1,KH2 and Birth By Sleep after playing these you should get 80% of whats happening.

You could tell that this reviewer was really digging super-hard to try and find flaws, but most of them turned out to be nit-picking on little details, especially considering that the back-story the game was explaining made the fact that you're traversing all the same worlds make perfect SENSE.

This Review is bullshit >_>, 1st what the hell does the music have to do with the review? last time I check those are the original songs from the Kingdom Hearts series. why the hell would they change it? 2nd You gave this a 8.0? and then you give Birth By Sleep 8.5? are you serious? You actually think Birth By sleep with a better Gameplay, lots of variety and content, AMAZING story plot, Almost PS2 graphics. i love all kingdom hearts games and this is great cuz it has the melancholic and lonely feeling the dark side of kingdom hearts. yeah the game is really heavy at the first time and being at twiligth town in the beggining is really boring but the game is a challenge not like the others kingdom hearts xD (except Chain of memories that was my firs game and is really hard) love roxas :D

as others said getting the psp for bbs is def worth it. and the NGP( ps vita) is only download based, so birth by sleep isn't even an option, u can only play on the psp

Although I do believe some of the gameplay is sloppy, I think this is definitely by far the best story that Kingdom Hearts had ever done- EVER. That's what makes it my favorite, either that or Birth by Sleep.

Don't get me wrong, it's my top favorite ds game, second being re:coded. But it's so repetitive. There's only a handfull of enemies. Most of them just have different colors and you always have to so the same kinds of missions. Still a very good game though. Saddest ending if you ask me. Pretty much nothing worked out for Roxas :(

I enjoyed this game for a while, liked the retro combat system and customization, but after half way through it, it just got too boring. Playing the same worlds and locations over and over again, along with missions that seem like busy until I actually get to the next meaningful dialogue, really killed it for me.

Even though i enjoyed KH1 and also Birth by sleep, and forced myself to play this game because i'm such a fan (but it was actually pretty boring :/ ), my fav is still KH2. I even played Chain of memories on GBA, was pretty cool but nothing compared to the PS2 games. Square enix really did a good job making the kingdom hearts series, they easily became my fav games. I hope they put in as much effort into KH3 as the previous games, because then we all know it'll be great.
