@choosea44 this is because the output voltage of the psp speakers probably isn't enough at low volume which is why you are having to put the volume to max. the way to sort this would be to use an LM386 circuit so the lights go with the sound even at low volume. but you'll have to look on youtube for this as i cant explain!
not a good mod :/ u should buy a replacement umd door, a smaller speaker some smd leds and a clear case then cut the umd door and remove the umd drive and then try putting the speaker in the door

ur sopose 2 soder the bulb 2 the +,- on the adio jack, or 2 the mother board, then screw the speaker in. i bet u got a bulb tiny battery and speaker and taped it all 2 the back with black electrical tape.....wait a second,u did! wow im smrt
i have to say i love the mod but the speaker installment is kind of shotty. no disrespect. try to use one of those skinny speakers from the ipod dock station. that is a real skinny speaker. and try to carefully cut a hole in your umd door and put the speaker in there. it's just a suggestion. but mad props man keep it up.

If you can get onto the recovery menu try to install the XMB theme again.
