The Amercian players certainly add some really hilarious remarks. I perticularly loved when Larry ,said look at him smirking, and Nigel was doing just that. really brilliant entertainment by both of them. However, Christiansen, did underestimate Nigel, and paid the price.
Very insightful commentary. If Christiansen was expressing these thoughts in post game commentary, it'd be interesting to know what was he thinking during the game proper ?
That should be winning for White. If at 15:20 Christiansen should have played 31.Qg3+ Kh7(Kh6 will be met by 32.Qxe5 Bxc6 33.Qe6+ and it is forced mate in 11 moves according to Houdini 1.5a) (also not possible is 31. ...Kf7 because of Rc7+ forcing to sacrifice the queen.) then Christiansen missed the winning 32. Nf4 Bxc6 33. Qg6+ Kh8 32.Qxh5+ Kg7 33. Qg6+ Kh8 (if 33. ...K8 34. White will play Ne6+ winning the queen because it can't be taken by the rook because of Rxf5+) 34.Qf7 Qg6/Qg8 35 Ng6+)
@Aang4Katara Ah, you beat me to the computer analysis. Larry is one of the finest attacking players ever, but under the abbreviated time controls of this series, he just couldn't figure out a winning line. I love the dubbed over pseudo-commentary; it makes you really feel sorry for the guy.
@irondogon Very sporting, yes. Tony Miles always struck me as the opposite: in a game where he eventually loses, his in-game commentary sounds *very* depressed (e.g. 1981 Final against Short)
I've got one of L.Christiansen's book chess book and it is really good at giving ideas at attacking chess, but short showed really good resilience here, which shows why Short went on to challenge Kasaprov for the world title, Kuasm comment sums LC's view of the game perfectly
@Kuasm: Isn't it rather obvious that they recorded this dialog after the game? It's pretty clear that Larry wasn't being "cocky" - he was trying to create dramatic effect for the TV show. How can he be "cocky" when he already knows he lost the game?

Sorry, as I said before, I will not allow post that are unkind to the players or makers of the Master Game series. Keep such remarks to yourself.

HAHAHAHA. Christiansens humor is spot on at the end.

White had a better game and a won position at some point, but failed to spot the right moves.

Larry actually has a GREAT sense of humour IMHO. Call's himself Bozo's apprentice. Short was just on the way to World Class that's all.

@Ronbo710 "Bozo the Clown", LC with some gold.

I'm guessing that they dub the commentary after the game. If so I think it's very sporting of LC to be so cocky knowing how the game turned out

Larry seemed overly cocky in this game- I'm glad Nigel triumphed. He showed his mettle by remaining calm in a losing position and defended superbly.
