These were guys who played for the love of the game not like todays players with their agents managers etc. I'm no Yankee fan but the chance to be in the house that Ruth built and watch men like Ruth and Gehtig play. Just give a hot dog and beer and forget the sushi and wine coolers. PLAY BALL!!
Westchester county police, NYPD Bronx parkway patrol to River ave. under the Woodlawn 4 train Yankee Stadium $ 1.50 out fleld seats man the good old day´s!!
Signed an almost old Bronx Boy..........................
These were the days when everyone knew all the players and their batting orders and their positions...Today, they change teams as often as they change their underwear..... What would have happened if they Yankees separated Ruth and Gerhig???
People today are actualy better...it is they just don't stand out as much because everyone is much better. Defense is way, Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. Guys are stronger and more athletic. But what makes them seem less is the salaries and all the money that is promised to them. But players today are far superior to players from back then. It was just not very many people could hit like Babe Ruth and Lou Gherig back then.
The players are more athletic, more skilled, and have better everything. The thing with the legends is that they were so great in spite of what they had. They actually loved to play and were loyal to their teams and the fans, not like todays primadonnas. Today its about style and looking good instead of always giving their best even when hurt or tired.
@elijah5674 The players of today also have better conditioning and nutrition than the players of yesteryear. Many players genuinely played for the love of the game, including the baseball players of the Negro Leagues. It's a shame that players of today don't play the game with the same enthusiasm, instead of using performing enhancing stuff to help improve their individual performance on the field.
I wish baseball today could be as good as it was back then.
