  • another beautiful performance by the musician, Siouxsie Sioux - in all things nonlinear :}

  • This is GOTH classic....all you little Twilight . "hot Topic" kids...myGenX invented this....bow your heads and kiss Siouxsie's feet

  • inoubliable...

  • Hang Kang Garden 0:10 :-)

  • @binka21 don´t fall asleep...you don´t know what day it is or what time it is...

  • WHAT'S THE NAME OF THIS SONG

  • @binka21 Are you incapable of reading? Or turning your caps lock off? Or using basic punctuation?

  • WHAT YEAR IS THIS

  • Love it !

  • Epic

  • Drums are awesome as usual

  • RIP John McGeoch

  • What? Only 290 likes. This is a really good song.

  • What? Only 290 likes. This is a really good song.

  • just to good

  • one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs of all time. this song is legendary for me for certain things I dealt with at this time of my life. I will always cherish Siousxie and her music.

  • Jesus, snake bite, puff and all the good things, I am old...... yeah but seeing this lot at the Royal Albert Hall!!!! I did not need snakebite, pure class, one of the best gigs I have ever seen, when are you coming to Singapore Siouxsie for the old farts like me???

  • Ok - Just for the record the song is actually about a necrophilliac that Siouxsie read about, he worked the nightshift in a morgue so he could have his way with the corpses with less chance of being disturbed. Not the Yorkshire Ripper. Awesome gigs that i too was lucky enough to attend. The Banshees were my life back then, i picked up a guitar for the first time because of McGeoch, also liked the coinsidence that Severin's real name and mine were the same!!

  • "a happy-go-lucky chap always dressed in black.."

The song portrays the yorkshire ripper. And who could have done it better.

  • So gooooooth <3

  • when it comes to genres. Siouxsies album Juju is a Goth album. Dark, macabre, atmospheric. Come on people she basically wrote the book on Goth. Todays goth is too superficial and silly, the atmosphere isn't the same as you would get out of this kind of music. I'm basically saying; todays goth sucks!! Long live Siouxsie.

  • @Devilsblood

Actually if you really get into it, almost all her music is Goth, because of the Native American influenced drumming in quite a few songs like Happy House, Sin in My Heart, Spellbound ETC. But that is just one example out of many. But there is still a goth/deathrock scene today, it's just underground, and only large in a few cities in American, I'm not sure what it's like in other countries.

  • whenever i think a high school with all the cliques, but especially goth, i think of this song.

  • Sorry the sound is off, but this is magnificent,,, and... c'mon people, goddamn JOHN MCGEOGH !!

  • God, she looks like a silent film goddess in this performance. Siouxsie is truly timeless in her beauty as she has still maintained her loveliness over the years, it's just different now.

  • This great song has been in the top of my head for nearly 30 years. Thanx Siouxie. And thanx Skywalker74

  • Like a good wine, this,ages well

  • Siouxsie and the Banshees came out of the same Punk scene that spawned the Sex Pistols, but I believe that Siouxsie and the Banshees started the Goth movement. Killer band!

  • they say women see through things. Outside on the gravel Ray heard the words as clearly as if they had been whispered close to his ear.

  • sexy!!

  • John McGeoch hail!!!!

  • Retrum!!

  • what goes on in your mind....always silent and kind!!

  • Sounds as good as it did the first day I heard it - & reminds me why I was a die hard punk for a number of years. And now I'm married with kids, & I still love listening to this stuff. Who needs to grow up...

  • Wow, almost 30 years ago. I think I'll have another midlife crisis. It's a good thing I stopped drinking

  • Im with ya on that one! If I get pissed on a Saturday my hangover lasts til Wednesday! Oh to be 18 again!!!!

  • A soothing lullaby to send me to sleep.

  • Exsquisite

  • I love to watch her.

  • londinistan future...

  • Oi Dapper 64. Do something about then!"!!

  • saw her at bradford tiffanies,I also saw spizz and killing joke there, its all boarded up now, whats happened to bradford?it used to be a good place to go if you liked this sought of music, there also used to be a lot of oi bands played but not any more.

  • Budgie is one of the most underrated drummers ever.

  • I saw `em 7 times in three weeks on this JuJu tour in `81...you people don`t know what you missed..she was captivating and John Mcgeoch was THE Banshees guitarist....

  • i think i can at least slightly grasp at what i've missed... it hurts every time i think about it

  • @srm3469

Hooray! I saw them in Torquay on the JuJu Tour. Blew my mind completely! (Then again, I was 14 - what'd you expect?)

    :)

  • This concert is amazing! They should have released this one instead of Nocturne. Such intensity! And Mc Geoch on guitar!!! Brilliant!

  • I'm being Sioux for Hallowe'en, though now I know I'll never be able to capture her sheer power and beauty.

  • siouxsie's so beautiful, she's so tall...:)

  • fantastic!!!

  • RIP John Mcgeoch - such a talented guitarist in the studio or live - Banshees at their darkest - Song is about the Yorkshire Ripper hence the graphic lyrics !

  • amazing how good and fresh it still sounds more than 20 years later.

  • It's quite unbelievable to me on how many levels this song is amazing. Just like every song of theirs has more than one dimension to it, I think... She is the most mysterious, unique, amazing creature - and yet the most distant person I've ever seen. I'd kinda like to visit the place or planet or whatever she comes from, and at the same time, not. Seriously, I wonder where all those sad and wonderfully twisted emotions can come from. So glad she has so much happy, or at least lighter, stuff too.

  • I hear you. My crew and I were actually shocked the first time we heard "Last Beat of My Heart" - her first love song after ten years of music. We always said we wanted our ice queens to stay frozen.

  • I couldn't say that on my post-Last Beat era. The Lollapalooza live recording of it is one of those otherworldly things one can experience any day, thanks to youtube. But sometimes I can't help wishing I could've lived that concert, for real. Oh, I love that version so much. Never realized it'd be their first actual love song.

By the way, I think one of the highlights of Dreamshow is Siouxsie commenting on the air-conditioning: "I may be an ice queen, but I like it fucking hot!"

  • Lullaby was a good kind of "love song" too

  • So raw.

  • This is sublime. As others here say, this isn't goth - but post-punk. Stylistically, punk is an extreme form of romanticism which leads to "darker" attitudes and eventually ends up a torpid gothic state. But, here, Siouxsie is in full bloom of her creativity: cold passion, distance and anger. The "scary" part of this is simply human nature and her morally ambivalent portrayal of a killer. Siouxsie's appearance, attitudes and art - it would be difficult to do this today.

  • reieto

A great run down, Thanks. My Nighshift is telling,

  • ;-)

  • So gothic means a lack of creativity? Hmh.

  • Well, not exactly. I think gothic literature and what people refer to as "goth" music can easily become a parody of itself if it's not handled correctly. We can't forget the cultural context that produced this song by Siouxsie - no was doing this stuff back then, but there were a lot of "me-too" bands aferwards. It's tough: just as "romantic" can become "sentimental", "goth" can become simply "spooky" - a silly cartoon of what gothic greatness can be.

  • Interesting. I'd be inclined to agree. However, in some sense, every musical act that has been influenced by other musical acts is in some sense, a "me too" musical act. I'm just nitpicking though.

  • I think 90's disco means lack of creativity.

  • The 90's disco were amazing.

  • naah

  • @reieto A perfect description.

  • This video is insane. They are not from this world.

  • Post-punk. period. Not poser. Not slit ur wrists goth. not post apocolyptic bullshit.

Not hey! it's guess what siouxs style is today! Post-punk. Dark, sinister, vitriolic artistry slathered on a human tapestry. She may not wear the swastika anymore, but never think she left the shock out of her songwriting.

  • You cannot imitate perfection !!!

  • And yet it's all you're doing, really, when you've reached that point where you end up stringing that out because too many people who don't realize how sad you are keep telling you how great you are.

We all know what we mean. It's sad, and it's sad that people cheer it on.

I love music, by the way -- lots of music. But I only hear memory if it's memorable.

  • Love this song!!

  • This is prob my fav song off Juju

  • Goth is the music that Siouxsie and the Banshees imitators were lumped into after the fact. Always groundbreaking, always awesome, the Banshees rule - especially this lineup. To think, this immense music was created by only three instrumentalists plus Siouxsie's tremendous voice.

    Mindblowing.

  • OK. maybe we can just agree that Siouxsie made some ground breaking dark music. Ju Ju is just incredibly good. period. "goth" didn't exist back then. Labeling and catagorizing music is constricting and limiting.

  • yes it did;Goth was quite known by 81.

  • I couldn't agree with you more !

  • i don't think the banshees can be called goth. they are in a class of their own; although i would be more likely to class them with the punk movement than the goth, myself.

  • Punk? Goth? Who cares?! It's f*cking BRILLIANT !!

  • agreed my friend!

  • Fantastic! Hadn't seen this performance of one of my favourite Siouxsie songs before. Don't even get me started on the whole Goth thing.

Siouxsie & the Banshees started out opening for the Sex Pistols, at which time they were a part of the Bromely Contingent and were getting up on stage to perform their

Lord's Prayer. They were unmistakably punk at the time, and the incarnation into Gothic was a natural progression. The Gothic of the 80s is a completely different beast to the goth of today.

  • Siouxsie and the Banshees used to be punk. In the very beginning, they had more of the old school punk sound. However, as they matured and kept growing musically, they became darker and more goth. I would consider early Siouxsie punk and later Siouxsie goth.

I got to see Siouxsie solo in February of this year and she played this song. It's my favorite!!

  • I had the honor of seeing Siouxsie in concert on this tour, Halloween, 1981 at the Ritz N.Y.C.. She was mesmeric. Juju was a brilliant album.

  • Darkly good.

  • guy below does this mean all dark music means its gothic? so dark techno/country etc is also gothic?* i have some black trousers am i gothic? worldwide Sioux is known as the Queen of punk. funny guy sully....

  • You can't be serious and say Siouxsie wasn't Gothic! Steve Severin called 'Join Hands' A Gothic album, and All members of the banshees admit 'Juju' as the darkest album they put out. The Banshees were Gothic before 'Hot Topic' and before most of you posuers were born. Holy shite!

  • totally dude. Juju is a very dark and great album. When Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney are sacrificing kids in the Whitehouse the always play this music.

  • Siouxsie's voice is an acquired taste much like yodeling in the valley if you take my meaning. All that said, not bad.Not bad at all.

  • This song is awesome! So dark and creepy! It's actually talking about a serial killer called the "Yorkshire Ripper"!

  • I love this! Absolutely Awesome!

  • MCGEOCH WAS A GOD!!!!!

  • GOD, GOD, GOD, GOD!!!

  • Best era of this band... JuJu is their best album and concerts from this time are excellent too...

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!

Siouxsie has the best voice ever!!!!!!!

  • Did anyone hear that documentary about Mcgeoch on radio 2? You can listen to it on the radios website. It's pretty good, a nice tribute.

  • great song, one of my favorite siouxsie and the banshees songs for sure.

  • Such a dark and haunting track from one of Goth's founders.Nothing else compares.

  • Siouxsie was never goth(ic). She was punk. She came around with the sex pistols, just turned out she had a bit of talent. Well ok, more than a bit.

The founders of Gothic music can really be attributed to Joy Division. Siouxsie may have a few dark sounding tunes but the main crux of what she sings is anti-establishment.

  • I'd say the Banshees were gothic in an Edgar Allen Poe sense. More dark then gothic I suppose.

  • Awesome, my favorite Siouxsie & the Banshees song, just ahead of Israel.

  • what an inspired song--totally mesmerizing.

  • Only at night time-I see you in darkness-I feel you A bride by my side-I'm inside many brides Sometimes I wonder...... What goes on in your mind, always silent and kind unlike the others...... Fuck the mothers kill the others Fuck the others kill the mothers I'll put it out of my mind because...... I'm out of my mind with you in heaven and hell with you...... My Night Shift Sisters await your nightly visitor they don't bother me no they don't bother me
  • This song is amzing and yet so eerie at the same time. Thanks for posting. One of the greatest concerts.

  • Skywalker ubber alles, lurve this track, Mcgeogh was the king banshees at their best here, the late John Mcgeogh stuff was on ebay selling for pennies, should have gone into the British Museum on prominant display, not like this, still he lives on in his music and our hearts.

  • skywalker74 you kik ass, thanx for these.

  • Could some of you tell me what you think this song is about, I have my own theory but would like to hear others.

  • grnade susanita ballon mm xq dices q hicieron una entrevista a marilyn manson no entendi bien

  • genial, genial . .. increible que al hacer en latinoamerica un especial sobre The Cure, se tenga en cuenta en las entrevistas a belinda, o marylin manson. y no a esta genial banda.

  • John McGeoch was fuckin' hot man. Love this song. Nothing made me feel more intense than this--- JUJU ROCKS!

  • definitely one of the best band ever of the rock n roll history. siouxsie and the banshees is not average at all. they are the opposite of average musicians.

  • WOW. Whoever posted all this 1981 Siouxsie stuff from Cologne... THANK YOU.

  • I just love this song

    In ocassions

    the lyrics

    fix in my

    life

  • Fuck the others kill the mothers. Fuck the mothers kill the others. I'll put it out of my mind, cause... I'm out of my mind with you. In heaven and hell with you.

Siouxsie is brilliant. I can't wait for her solo album!

  • SUPERRRR RECORD WE LUV THIS where is this looks like shepards bush empire yes nocturne dvd is a compulsary must have from the best band, can you post more thanks.

  • lovely guitar..this song brand my memories forever..best band ever!!!

  • Budgie up there with the best ghubonamin ?

  • You think Robert Smith was the only good musician they had? He wasn't with them very long and was a fair guitar player at best.

  • I'd like to hear your idea of what a 'good' band or musician is? I'll bet we all think it's crap...

  • I like Robert Smith but put John Mcgeoch and Siouxsie Sioux together and they'll kick his ass at singing, songwriting and guitar.

  • I think this is the best band ever in my book. Siouxsie and Budgie are in love with each other and are still making beautiful music together. Robert Smith was not a bad addition to the band, but not by far the best of show. Siouxsie, Severin and Budgie are all that was and is needed, to this day. I do think that this band is my favorite band of all time. Really! Thanks for your comment and making me sit back and think about my feelings about my favorite band of all time.

  • i share your opinions. but siouxsie and budgie are divorced recently and they dont make music together anymore. she worked with different musicians in her solo album.

  • O rly? She divorced?

  • yes. siouxsie is divorced.

  • Oh...poo. :( Ah vell, shit happens.

  • jesus robert smith can't do anything in comparison to Mr. McGeoch.

have you heard Robert Smith playing banshees, it's awful, he can't even play guitar in his own band, that's how good he is. I have no idea why they even asked him.

I am impressed with rob smith, just not in the context of the banshees

McGeoch is THE best goth/dark guitarist ever.

    NO COMPETITION!

  • I agree that Robert Smith's days in the Banshees weren't his best work. McGeoch is awesome. I saw them in 2002 with Knox Chandler playing guitar for them and his playing on this song was awesome.

  • Yeah ok i know where your coming from

but the kiss me album was pretty good

  • Deep!

  • Nocturne ruled major ass in '83 w/Robert Smith

  • still one of the best songs ever , done by the best band ever

  • It's best to set your volume to 9 or 10.

  • Wow they're playing all their best stuff here. Almost like on Nocturne.

  • you know... there IS a nocturne live DVD now. I'm pretty sure so anyway....

  • Absolute classic.

  • Also..John McGeogh, RIP :(

  • aahh memories

  • this and eve white eve black are great songs but where did live Nocturne vids go??? they used to be on youtube :( too bad.

  • yeah this song kick ass

  • Fantastic! My favourite Banshees era...

  • the epitomy "pimp-prostitute" song of all time; very sexy; one of my favorites by them

  • this was the first tune I had ever heard of Siouxsie and the banshees....20 years later still by far my fav... a masterpiece of darkness

  • Creepy song, but in a very tantalizing way. Every time I hear this I always get excited as a tender chill courses through me. Awesome.

  • This is one of my favorite Siouxsie songs

  • cool tune

  • Disturbing-sexy is the only kind of sexy for me. I think this is excellent. . . the sound quality could be a bit better. Her voice is so down in the mix.

  • Yes very sweaty and sexy and weird and disturbing at the same time. I don't like how it was filmed. Too many distant shots that looked like someone was in the back with camcorder.

  • This is so very sexy! Great recording! What style the woman has.
