LOL, and where the HELL were the cops during this whole fiasco? They could have issued SO many tickets during this power outage. Just goes to show you, when you ACTUALLY need a cop, they are nowhere to be found.
Stanley I have long complaint about people driving badly. Not only is it up in Northern Cali but also in Southern. I honestly think that the people who do issue the licenses should have their job re-evaluated again.
That traffic signal is next to two public schools! If the power went out and school was just let out, the risk of hitting someone would have been drastically higher.
why werent police on sence fire dept get into contact with dispatch tell them we got traffic lights out we need officers here as crossing guards untill pg&e can fix the the promblem. nor the flying cars on both sides dont use thier brains but the fire dept dones not have brians as well wow
I am of the firm belief that the DMV needs to issue an IQ test with the driving written exam. The words we all would love to hear while standing inline is, "I'm sorry sir, but your IQ is too low to have a driver's license. You belong on a bus." Why? Because LOW IQs and Apathy are the explanation of this phenomena. The next time you see an idiot pulling a suck-head move while driving, remember this post.
You sure those buses weight close to 60000 pounds? That's close to the Max weight a 48feet van(semi trailer) can carry which I think is around 70-75000 pounds. Hell pups(28feet) can only max 24000 per single. No way is a tour bus going to outweigh tractor trailers hauling freight. 1 pallet of tile can weight close to 3000 that's equal to 12 to 20 people depending on their weight.
@lastpally The MCI J4500 coach seen is in fact 54,000 pounds. Check MCIs website.
The Neoplan USA AN460TL coach I'm researching, its proving hard as Neoplan USA went out of business in 2006. Buses are much heavier than one believes.
LMAO! Stanley, an articulated "double-dutch" is actually 61,000 pounds. The tour bus is 54,000 pounds. That's alot of steel! Something to note about big vehicles...you can guess about 1000 pounds per foot. For example an articulated coach is 18m or 60 feet long.
Side note: I live in Belmont and since you did that piece on those strange folks giving 1-2 car lengths of buffer spaces between cars practice in San Carlos, O haven't seen that phenomena again.
@MidnightFapper69 yeah i agree. The city I live in, the guys who work on the traffic signals and other equipment usually comes out and puts in temporary stop signs in every direction of traffic at the intersection until the lights come back on.
Without it, considering how people drove in that video, it's a nightmare waiting to happen
I hope you get some kind of comment from a Muni spokesperson. "professionals" should be (one would think) more aware than your avg Joe Shmoe driver. Then again...
Solution in my area: Stop signs cut in half folded with a hinge. If the lights go out, a cop, city worker, fireman or power company guy can pop the wire that holds it and you have a stop sign (obviously costs a bit, but can be a way to recycle old signs )
I think part of the reason is that fact that the lights tend to be tucked away at the side of the road, making it a bit harder to see, much less find out that they're not working. Of course, still bad driving due to them not scanning enough to notice that they were there in the first place.
I love watching your segments, makes me learn too. You should do a segment on stanyan street in front of Kezar, there is a green pedestrian walk way but so many drivers don't yield
Wow that is ridiculous! Barely anyone stopped! I have encountered an stop light intersection or two when the power has gone out in San Diego and most everyone was stopping like they should.
thats crazy. ive seen this happen before. it almost seems people have the mentality that the "busier" road is just a solid green when this happens, surprised you didnt see any accidents. ive seen alot of intersections around here have folded up stop signs so if this happens they just open up the stop signs so it becomes a 4way stop
OK, so here's the issue. There are no marking that indicate the road as a 4 way junction. The law says that you must stop if the junction is marked as such. Usually there is a white line across the road to indicate that it is a 'stop' zone. Typical SF cheaping out on paint and road markings!
@pentachronic Really? I read the drivers manual which says:"Traffic Signal Blackout– The traffic signal light is not working. Proceed cautiously as if the intersection is controlled by “STOP” signs in all directions." It'does not say look for white markings and if you don't see any marking then ignore the intersection.
I do have to question why there are no white stop bars on the road. I don't know about California, but in Ontario (Canada), every intersection controlled by a traffic signal also has painted stop bars. Also, those traffic signals look really tiny. All Ontario traffic signals are large, bright yellow, with a large yellow backing plate. While it's not as pretty, it's impossible to ignore.

@TVman198 I think it was 4 busses. When you were announcing the third bus it appears there was a 4th bus to the right of the muni one.
npadul30 1 month ago
@npadul30 That bus stopped to pick up some passengers earlier and did stop for that reason so the number still stands at 3 for MUNI Buses.
