Gorgeous song, gorgeous voice, gorgeous guy. I wish I lived in this era.
I first heard this song by a girl group (I think maybe The Chiffons) and had no idea it was Rick Nelson's. Does anyone know who recorded the other version.
@docchristy00 Truly a great song, emotionally-charged. The 'other' version is by Little Eva. Unfortunately, YT don't allow it to be posted for copyright reason..
Mood evoking music. Love the words - "down home is just a memory". Sometimes I think Rick is not singing about a physical location but his earlier life - when things were so simple.......
Transported by my Way back Machine, I am sitting in a Soda Shop on the corner of Maple and Main, touching finger tips with a pony tailed beauty named Lucille, making plans to go see a Movie tonight and then going home to scarf down Mom's Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes, so nervous, I almost forget to comb my hair after my shower. Arriving at Lucille's door, her Father with that half smile and serious, 'i'll kill you if you keep her out past 10' invites me in and I nervously wait in the old parlor.
This is the kind of beautifully touching and "romantic" (classic sense) music that stirs hearts and emotions, digging up care-free memories of the past.
When I was 8 years old , I discovered this song on Ricky's "For Your Sweet Love " Album . It was a favorite of mine but the record disappaered and I only recently obtained it. A very underated song. I again believe , with the right musical arrangment could be a charted song, but only the right kind of genre . In this case the country charts.
Yes Sir B---a fine tune indeed! I've been singing and playing guitar along with it all day...chokes me up everytime, too! I used to sing a lot of Ricky in my old band...still love to. I have a CD coming out next year of originals...one is a Ricky tribute in his great 60's style. I'll let you know when I do a Vid on it. Keep up the great work...it's much appreciated :)
great vid! always loved this song...have the 45 somewhere. I lived in a big city and this record did make me yearn for the old small town...great Goffin/King song.
I wish I had all these beautiful songs of Ricky. There's something in his voice that is very sentimental and makes me think of the past, like when he was a teenage idol and when I think how he died, it's very sad.
I bought Fools Rush In from a 2nd hand record shop in around 1973 and loved this song, Down Home, which was on the "B" side. It's remained a favourite ever since then and I now have it on CD - without all the crackles. Great song and my fave from Rick Nelson by a mile.
@SirBasildeBrush Agree 100%...Angel really made me go back and appreciate this incredible song...bet Helen's contralto would have been beautiful with these lyrics...Wayne in Texa.....well you know......
Rick[y] Nelson was always renowned for releasing bloody good 'B' sides and this is no exception! Always was [and still is] one of my all-time favourite tracks.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! These are the ones nobody remembers and my LP's are so scratched up!!!!!! You have no idea how happy I am right now!!
Now that's enthusiasm! Pleased to be of help. I've just brought my Rick(y) LPs down from the attic after 15 years, and they still sound pretty good. This is from a CD, however!
Thank you for writing back. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving, if you are from here and that's what you do!!! Well, I just hope you keep them coming no matter from what format!!! I must confess, my sister is 8 years older than I & I stole her albums, & she's never getting them back!!! Tee hee heee. Don't worry, not that nefarious, and SHE KNOWS!!!
Written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King this was the flip side of "Fools Rush In". It had special meaning because shortly after the record came out we moved 1400 miles away from friends and family. I used to play it when I got homesick. Thanks for posting this rare song.
This song meant so very much to me when I was separated from my family and friends. Fortunately for me, I was able, eventually, to get "back home," and I thank God for that honor!
Beautiful "Sir B" another unknown to me...by the way...my home is still standing...Houston, the 4th largest city in America, is in shambles...I got nothing but a spring-like rain....this song makes me feel very very fortunate...plus having "Sir B" as my mentor!!!
Still Hungry for Helen...Wayne In Texas...after Ike's visit...
Love this song - Ricky at his best.....Thomas Wolfe I believe said you can't go home again...and he is right - better left to memories...............

Another great Carole King-Gerry Goffin tune that was a hit in it's own right, though overshadowed by the more popular "Fools Rush In" side.

This is a song about anybody's home..........Thanks Ricky and God Bless.

This was my absolutely favorite song when I felt so very alone; with a strong yearning to go "back home."
Gladly, I've made it there; but Ricky helped me through some very, very lonely times. God bless him, and his sweet memory.

If ever I have to have a song played at my funeral - some time in the 23rd century - it'd be this one or Cliff's 'Evergreen Tree'.
