Yes in fact, Georgia was the first to strike. There's a lot of speculation that they were encouraged to do so by the US. More specifically, the lobbyist for Georgia who works in McCain's presidential campaign. That's what provoked the statement from the Georgian president after McCain said "We are all Georgians now." It's easy to place blame and it's my assertion that the whole event (as disgusting as it was) was merely a distraction while US sends fleets to the Persian Gulf to prepare for Iran.

The Laatokka/Ladoga/Ladozhkoie lifeline is the one I was referring to. Finland refused to cut it despite German demands. We didn't want leave Russians hating us. Same goes for the Murmansk railroad to then Leningrad.
Finland did not "help" Germany. We cooperated, because they were the only ones who would help against Russian aggression just to survive, not to attack you. Despite repeated pleas and empty promises from the Aliied.
