I've been humming this song for several months, have tried various online 'song recognisers' as it reminds me so much of my days in First School. Anyway, eventually I resorted to asking my mum, and I've finally found it! Now I no longer feel frustrated when I hear the tune. :D
OMG i absolutley luv this song. My grandfather used to sing it to me when i was very little. My great grandmother came over to australia when she was pregnant with him.
This was a nice video, albeit a different version of the Skye Boat Song, but beautifully played. I am related to Flora MacDonald, the woman who helped the Bonnie Prince Charles escape the battle of Culloden to the Isle of Skye, where my Great-Grandfather on my mother's side came from. He and his family moved to Prince Edward Island, Canada, although I am not from Canada. It has been twenty or thirty yeara since I first heard this song and it made me cry without even knowing the words.
Don't make it longer and don't lose the guitar. The whistle gives the impression of solitude, but one thing I have learned in Scotland is that you are never alone, and the guitar added a well known friend that was missing in other versions I've heard.
And as it is a Waltz - it's fitting that the whistle be given a partner.
Hauntingly emotional music - thank you for sharing such beauty with us all.
Lyrics to this part: Speed bonnie boat, like a bird on a wing Onward the sailors cry. Carry the lad that's born to be king. Over the sea to Skye. Loud the winds howl Loud the waves roar Thunderclaps rend the air... Baffled our foes, stand by the shore. Follow they will not dare. Speed bonnie boat, like a bird on a wing Onward the sailors cry. Carry the lad that's born to be king. Over the sea to Skye.
it dont make me proud , this lot of christain zioist ecaped like the nazi to usa , now they do chemtrails on the people , i am leslie , i not hold the religion , but i hate the world order of people who think they are higher beings , stuarts and zionist s both wirte they are higher than others . Funny my surname is of the ones who kidnapped charles 1st and charles the 2nd , leslie . i fight world order .
@beaches2k10 You are kind of correct but both songs go to the same melody. Written by I think Robert louise Stevenson. Don't believe me? Look it up! ;)
actually its called both. i play harp and its in the exam sylabus i use as o'er the sea to skye, so either works actually. And i sung it in 5th grade in a choir and it was also called over the sea to skye
In my opinion, I think it would have sounded better without the guitar.. well not better, because it already sounds amazing. But, I think it would have sounded awesome if you kept the guitar out and just had the melody.
thank you my friend! you have made my day! maybe I can work on it and record it again and make it longer. I was just experimenting with my new whistle :)

It's lovely and the only negative comment I have is that it's not long enough. I could have listened to it for an hour.

No, I don't play any instrument but love the tin whistle and Scotland. Once again, I loved your rendition.
