  • and the lesson??

  • good cover but the harmonics sound funny and stop playing fake F chords-.-

  • think a min, AADDGBE make no sense, it's ADADGBE!

  • @kojinmalia No, it really is AADDGBE, like a normal six string in Drop-A tuning, but with another D string, and I'm pretty certain the d strings are at the same pitch so Matt just uses it for effect. It was recorded with a six string in Drop-A though, he only uses the 7 String live.

  • @Vlodrak Recorded with 6strings? If you drop A on 6string guitar, it's hard to hit the chord to make it sound like A cause it's so...

  • @kojinmalia Well, on the recording he used a thicker string than the average E string, but if the string is clean and new(ish) then it can work with just an average string. I'm performing it for my Music GCSE this wednesday, and I've not had much problem, the only real thing is that it can go out of tune easier than in E or D. Anyway, it's meant to sound slightly discordant on the riff thing for the effect it produces.

  • Let´s hope songs like this one will be on Muse´s next album!

  • The music and guitar picking are louder than your actual guitar playing

  • wow thats nice that you play piano at the end too :)

  • very very well done

  • nice job

to ever cover matt or thome vocally hard.but to play at the same time, nice

  • Absolutely banging cover mate

  • Fair play son that was decent

  • Ok So I Play Viola And I've Been Trying To Teach Myself this Melody, Are The First Two Notes ( AA ) Then Then A Harmonic Of A?

  • yes

  • @Muse1901 its AA and then the harmonic is a high G and then the second is AA and then a high E

  • Best cover i've seen.

  • Comment removed

  • What kind of tuner do you have?

You need a chromatic one to get like different notes.

I had a Korg one then I got a chromatic tuner built in my effects board I bought.

But you can buy a chromatic tuner for just about £5-£10.

    Best thing I can suggest.

  • Matt did'nt use a 7 Sting for the recording :L

    owell we cant win!

  • yes it was a 6 string on recording, in AADGBE

He needed the low A and the higher A for the harmonics.

Live it's a seven string AADDGBE..

  • i thought it was DDAAGBE?

  • !!!!

    Really nice cover!!!!!

  • Nice Job, good improv on the solo.

  • was the moment on 3:57 to 3:58 now an improvisation? OMG!! dude.. can you be my teacher? 5/5

  • very nice

me parecio una de las mejores performans en you tube no tengo la guitarra de 7 cuerdas pero bueno

dejo la 6 en A y masomenos sale esa parte despues esta perfecta un dia de estos la subo

    bien el teclado ehh

    performance completa

    te doy 7 star

    saludos

    adios

    good luck

  • May I ask what's being used for the intro sound? As I am new to the guitar world, I dont know it all yet :(

  • Its called a harmonic, in this case on the Primary A string, 3rd and 4th threts

    Hope that helped:D

  • @AsunaFan It's called harmonics, you hold your finger lightly over the fret and strum.

  • @AsunaFan Harmonics, you need distortion for them to really sound out. Just touch the string over the dot between the 2nd and 3rd fret, then for the second harmonic just touch over the 3rd fret. Don't push down the string or anything, a light touch will suffice. Play around with them, there are loads of different harmonic positions, the strongest being over the 12th fret.

  • 7 String tuning is:

    AEADGBE

    Nicely played mate,

Care to check my attempt? lol

  • AADDGBE

  • that's excellent. u must hav an excellent tab cos the 1s on ultimate guitar r shit! especially gud going wit da solo

  • Matthew? :O

    :]

  • wow! amazing. This is a very good cover.

  • this kicks ass

cant wait to be able to do this :D

    thanks

  • perfect!

  • nice playin man!!! SOUNDS GREAT!!!!!!! check out my vid of hysteria and plug in baby

  • is that in drop A?

    btw good cover (y)

  • What guitar is that?

And what effects do you have on it?

  • amazing! great tone as well! what effect are you using and what settings?

  • tho some mistakes this is probably the best citizen erased cover. and the one with more style :P nicely done with the piano

  • what pedal are you using?

  • how do u make that high pitch sound at the starting riff? (the 3rd note)

  • It's a harmonic note. You just slightly touch the string - don't press it down- and tab the string. It take a bit of practise to find the right spot depending on how well tuned the guitar is.

  • i tried it :S i worked on many tones but the 3rd note is hard. Is my guitar the problem or more practise?

  • You need quite a bit of distorsion as well :)

You need to fiddle around a bit before you find exactly the place where the harmonic rings out clearest.

Try searching for "citizen erased tab" (version 4) at ultimateguitar dot com. That is the tab I used when learning the song.

  • You need an electric guitar, but if you have that there should be no problem.

  • Cool =) Now its going great =) tnx

  • sounds good m8 :]

love the way it sounds on a 7-string too bad I have 6 string :[

and putting you E string into a A is pretty weird playing I can tell you that hah xD!

  • omg wait... it's... the real thing in da background

  • Ømg... §ounds just like da real thing. gratz. how long'd it take to get it perfect?

  • Brilliant, and with a Griever neck chain on - I tip my hat to you mate!

  • Nice! :D Send me the tab for solo. :P

  • your solo sucks, rest is good

  • dude what brand is that cause the body KINDA looks like a HH strat but i dont think ive ever heard of a 7 string strat

  • dude, that was awesome... u're perfect

  • man your good, very good

  • awesome!

  • oh sorry! forgot to tell you! if you want to pull a cool sound when you make that picking thing on the top neck of the guitar you need som deep compressing on the guitar. otherwise it won't be audible and if audible, it will suck hard. check my video of halo from porcupine tree for a feel of that with compression. its on every verse.

    GEH! I love your video!

  • dood!its really good! awesome I might say! the first arpegio solo goeas really good in the first half then the other half is completely f'd up... the later distorted solo is completely wrong. piano part was AWESOME!LOVED IT!

come over my profile and check my video of citizen erased. no piano though... lol. I play that part with the guitar. I've got more muse videos and will be uploading more soon. don't forget to rate and comment! ROCK ON!

  • very nice job. i almost cried.

  • how have you tuned it?

  • AEADGBE, but its meant to be AADDGBE I think

  • the original song is played with a SIX string guitar and is tune AADGBE

  • Nope, it's a 7-string with AADDGBE. Trust me.

  • Why do you say this ? Where did you read/learn this ?

  • Watch Matt play it live, he uses a 7-string

  • I Know this (I got a 7 string me too), but it can't be AADDGBE, I'm pretty sure it's a Drop A (AEADGBE) tunning (the official tabs and chords makes me think of this...)

  • Yeah, the tab book is for 6-string guitar and in that it tells you to downtune the E to an A (which doesnt sound great) but im not sure what he does with the E string when he plays it live.

  • No, the tab book say to use a pinch ~57 string and to tune it in A...

And in live, the E is still E...

  • its AAADGBE

  • Well, this seems more realistic... since I don't have the correct nutt & strings, can't do it, so I'll keep AEADGBE who sounds great too =)

  • actually it's AADDGBE

  • its sg standard isnt it?

  • how the fuck could that be an sg standard???

for a start it has 7 strings

secondly it looks nothing like an sg

you must know fuck all about guitars

  • whats ur fuckin problem man..

i just couldn see. and i didnt see that it has 7 stringes..

    and im new on guitars..

go and tell ur stupid words someone

  • sorry i just get a bit over enthusiastic when it comes to guitars thats all...

  • good :)

granados1111 - buy guitar pro, then go to ultimate-guitar . com - search for citizen erased and download the third guitar pro tab. Or buy the tab book for origin of symmetry which will be more correct.

For effects you only really need some distortion/overdrive for most of it, then a whammy pedal for the solo.

    Rob

  • you can get all muse tabs for free (except black holes and revelations) microcuts. net/uk/tabs

  • actually the effect for the solo is with a ZVEX Fuzz Factory. wich is also used for the distortion in this and the majority of muse songs.

    besides

  • no its a whammy pedal lol, fuzz factory is used as well probably

  • Where can I get the correct tab!?

    What effects do you use?

  • Where can I get this tab correct!?

    What effects does you use?

  • yeah very good :p love it

  • this is a vid of a couple of 14 year olds playing this.. its amazing serarch it 4 grom citizen erased cover and it should come up.

  • paste this onto the end of the youtube url to watch the band... /watch?v=93WfsQlB5w4

  • Ah cool, didn't even know peavey made guitars. The headstock and body shape make it look like a musicman.

  • It looks a lot like a music man to me... am I right?

  • It's a Peavey Predator

  • good intro!! never seen one before who really could do that...!! bytheway, is that an Ibanez guitar??

  • you look boring

  • you lack some feeling. I'd like to see you jumping around WITH the song, actually... y'know. feeling it. but nice going.

  • that song is quite hard to play..you need a HELL lot of practice before "feeling it"

he did a fantastic job.. that covers up for the no jumping around thing..

  • awesome playing cool griever necklace i wanna get one too lol

  • I notice that you're playing the live version from Hullabaloo to the album version from Origin of Symmetry

  • Amazing. Well done!!! :) xx

  • Yea you can play it on six string....you'll miss out some of the dynamics but if you just tune the Low E string (the deeper string) down to A (which is fuken low) you can do it pretty good. Probably easier coz you dont have to try and miss the string between the 7th and 5th on a seven string guitar...if you know what i mean.

  • very good! a little bit geeky to do it that perfect;P but nice:)

  • The most difficult thing to learn this song is to get 7-string guitar

  • i think you can play it on a six string one too..

  • Not good as on 7-string:)

  • yeah probably..but if you can't get one..six string is probably allright..i reckon..

  • I like how you flicked your keyboard piano.

Sounded so much like the real thing (even though the real thing was playing in the backround) It was excellent. You could start your own band.

  • OMG marry me!

  • how did you get that tone? what equipment do you use?

  • fucking great!

  • I tried learning this song... Bit of a noob to guitar tbh. Sure I only tried learning itr for 2 minutes, but I take it there's more to it that just trying to do harmonics for the intro right?

  • good tb

  • Greeeeeeat work! How is the original tuning?

  • that is stunning. simply stunning. nice one!

  • awesome dude, the best cover of CE ;]

  • Haha, awesome.

  • holy crap this guy can do the real thing and wee bits from the live version

  • i fucking jizzed

  • The slow part was fine, take no notice of that tone deaf moron. The only one that has piano outro too. Matt would be proud

  • I loved how you improvised the solo. The begining of the slow part was a little off, i think.
