Me i think it aged better than a lot of old games. The graphic for it time was really nice and so the music. The only problem was how short it was.I used to play this a lot when i was a kid.
Edgar and Mary!!!! My brother always made me play as edgar cause he always wanted to be the first player. Broke my heart when i see this game in the arcades and realize there where 2 other characters and four players. Still legendary gaming right here.
Found a Sega Master System Emulator the other week, and I've been kicking arse on all the games, loved it as a kid, love it now as a old fart, (only 30yrs old, but feeling old), great vid, 5 stars again
Trying to recall all my games. It was my 1st system, I was maybe 7 or 8. Hang on/Safari hunt (DUH), Rambo, Ghost House, My Hero, Fantasy Zone, Quartet, Ghost House, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, And one I just cannot recall the name of. Running around timed mazes shooting bad guys and turning them into pellets you had to collect before they turned into little bugs that ate a chunk of your timer bar.
TEDDY BOY! That was it! I was going nutso trying to look it up, and failing because while I forgot name, I was incorrectly certain it started with letter 'P'
finaly found a download of the sega master system with near on all the games that came out for the system, including this one and the all great Alex the kid, Golden Axe, Hand On and Chop lifter, loads of others with it
I've been looking everywhere to try and find a download for this game, me and my brothers use to sit there for hours on end playing this game, was pretty pissed of when we got to the end and it starts from the first level again.
I don't get the stars either. Why does one need to collect the star on each level to advance on.
Is it to give the game sort of a challenge??
Could have done without the stars....
Beating the boss for a key to open the exit door sounds reasonable..it means one just can't go onto the next level without proving yourself a little by testing your manuevering and shooting.
The bosses at the end of the 5 rnds. were preparing you I think to fight the last and final 6th boss. They were like practice for the real thing at the end of Level 6.
If you couldn't beat the bosses to the 1st 5 rnds, you probably had no chance at the final boss at rnd. 6.
The last rd boss seems to incorporate everything you learned about fighting the bosses in the previous 5 rounds.
The ultimate test of your cunning!
There should have been a star on Rnd. 6 to complete game
The difficulty level of this game added to the seizure inducing madness of the final computer level truly makes me think this game came from the darkest reaches of hell.
Also, there's no point in going beyond the final level, the game repeats itself right after you beat the seizure level.
I just realized that they put "Princess" in the ending instead of "Queen". It is written in the manual that Queen Cynthia was the ruler of Colony 9 and that her tomb was raided by pirates.
My bad. I meant to make this a general comment. But yes it was related to a localization error in the final screen versus what is written in the manual.
You should go to Overclocked Remix there they have a version of the main theme called "Summer Trance". Its pretty Rad! You can also find Midi versions of the different songs on the Videogame Music Archive site under the Sega Master System page. They are also pretty Rad!
There were only five stars to collect in the game. I think the story says they were stolen from the princess's tomb or something...
If you beat Level 5 but don't have all the stars, you will be sent back to the stage(s) you missed the star on. When you get them all, then and only then will you get to Stage 6.
well i geuss this was just a playthrough(and a great one at that) but you missed a secret on the 2nd level....but damn you played the hell outta this game
I agree. And it was only a 2-mega cartridge. Imagine what they could have accomplished had they used a 4-megabit cart (sure, it would have been more expensive, but still...)
This was my favourite game when I was 4, I can remember all of the first and second level, the insanely easy 5th boss and the last boss which I could never beat.
hit pause 14 times and press A (controller 1 or 2 for both players)... you get wide beam and long shot... it's the best way to help waste 20 minutes... there are also hidden bonus rounds. Level 2 and 5.
Minute silence, whilst I wallow in nostalgia.

SEGA was always far superior a system than NINTENDO ever was. Better graphics and music all around. Even on their Master System.

Quartet was class! it only received average reviews back in it's day. But it's now one of the better aged SMS games.
mistertitanic, What was your favorite SMS game?

Ghost House.
*shame*

@OreWaUsopp
Aye! Ghost House was another fine SMS game. Again it only recieved average revies but I remember it being highly saught after.
Golvellius was another fine example.

I had this game on SMS since I was 3, didn't beat it until I was 16, now (25) I can beat it about this fast too.
Personally my fave music was either Stage 6 or Stage 2, tho Stage 1 is pretty good too.

I hope no one finds this comment dirty or offensive, but it is just my opinion-and I don't know how to word it any better.
Does anyone else feel that the starting theme in Level 1 sounds like a climaxing to an orgasm with the rise of the music...

Why does the music of round 5 sound board?? The melody or music of Rnd. 5 sounds subdued!!
Last round's music sounds like "your nearly to the end" type of music.
Round 4 music sounds like "things are hard now"
Level 3's music sounds like "where the heck am I"
Level 2's music sounds like "enjoy Rnd 2 while you can, because the remaining levels only get nastier"
Level 1's music is happy music saying "welcome to the world of Quartet"
happy7117 2 years ago 2
Oh dude! I'm sorry, but I disagree with you! Level 5's music is awesome!
But you know, you hit it on the head with Level 1--it's actually named "Theme of Quartet."

Was there ever a 6th level star???
If there was NOT a 6th level star, was it because I was unable to find it??
WHY wasn't there a 6th level star??
Makes the 6th level sort of incomplete without collecting a final 6th star.
That's just an opinion.
happy7117 3 years ago
i could never find a sixth star. I played it lots and finished it many times, but im far from expert like some ppl on Youtube.

No star but you have to kill 4 statues and get a key then fight the final boss...

Oh well, no one's perfect.

I wish there was a way to rip music from video games into MP3's that we could download, and burn to CD's...
For example, this great game...rip the musics from each level into mp3 files, then burn them onto a CD..

You should go to Overclocked Remix there they have a version of the main theme called "Summer Trance". Its pretty Rad! You can also find Midi versions of the different songs on the Videogame Music Archive site under the Sega Master System page. They are also pretty Rad!

DrLove0378 3 years ago
I found that out the hard way when I forgot a star on either level 2,3,4,or 5.
Instead of entering the exit door to take me to level 6, it took me to a previous level.
And I wondered why the exit door did not take me to level 6.
Only then did it come to my mind that "I must have forgotten a star on a previous level".
happy7117 3 years ago
I love all the level's music in this game! So catchy!
happy7117 3 years ago
Need to repost after watching this perfect playthrough again.
My favorite level's musics are Level's 1,2,5,6, level 6 boss music, and end music.
happy7117 3 years ago
what's great about the music in Quartet is that in 1991, Sega re-used some tunes for the Spider-man Arcade Game.

hey i just remembered that.
i think it was in stage 2, a door to the right.
you had to go in and out like 2 or 3 times and a secret room would come up
