  • gr8 book

  • thier book f'n rocks!

  • Even people who eat meat agree that dairy is ridiculous. In general, it's all so unnecessary which makes our exploitation of animals inherently cruel. I'm vegan, and I have to pick up this book ASAP.

  • I am not someone to follow extreme diets and lifestyle plans. But this book really gave me great insights and has changed the way I eat forever. Thanks for sharing!

  • I follow a paleo diet, which is no dairy, soy, grains, suagr but I still liked this book I think it is good for people wanting to make a change no matter what kind of diet you are on.

  • @AmericanBomshellFit You know something? I think this PALEO DIET is gonna show itself as a SHAM! Pretty much like the Atkins diet. Who the hell wants to eat like a Neandrathal or Cromagnon man! They weren't the smartest in the bunch! They're NOT around today. Homo-Sapien is evolving through medical knowledge and studies to know a VEGAN DIET is BEST! Look at our closest relatives in the animal world. Gorillas, Orangutangs and Chimpanzees. Two out of the three are plant eaters. Chimps rarely eat m

  • The main reasons people think they must eat meat and milk are Protein and Calcium. Those two important nutrients are accessible through healthier alternatives such as legumes, grains, fruits, and vegetables. The meat and dairy industries don't care about our healths. All they care about is the bucks they make by keeping us ignorant. My advice, if you have read "Skinny Bitch/Bastard", don't stop there! Keep doing your research and USE YOUR HEAD!

  • is it ok to eat chicken from trader joes and only the chicken or even if it is organic is it still bad for you or can i eat it

  • I admire these women so much for their continued activism for liberating animals and raising much needed awareness on health and wellness!! The book is so smart, hilarious and accessible for the general public. HIGHLY recommend it. To everyone who criticizes or is contemplating veganism, become informed and don't accept the propaganda we are fed daily by the meat and dairy industries....MAKE THE CONNECTION!

  • I thought the book had a lot of good information but I got rid of it before I even finished it because I could not stand all the cursing. I'm sure the advice would be just as affective without all the swear words. I'm 23 and I know that a lot of people think its cool to use that type of language but I don't. The authors gave good information on this video clip without swearing. Why couldn't they do the same in the book? I do think they have very valuable information though.

  • @babyxgrl87 I agree about the cursing....but really there ISN'T any valuable information. They 'borrowed' all the info from OTHER BOOKS! These women aren't doctors. Plus a LOT of this information is questionable, especially when you look at the lack of real science in their statements. Go ahead, check out the facts and you will find this book really has almost NO facts. It is mostly emotions and opinions and a lot of the 'science' comes from old, outdated studies!

  • @babyxgrl87 I agree. I'm not a fan of the cursing either.

  • I weigh 100 lbs. I eat dairy, meat and sugar. My great grandmother died at age 102 and she smoked, ate bacon every day and was about 100 lbs all her life. Why? IT'S GENETIC! Being vegan won't change your genetics. I am skinny because my family is skinny. Yes, a person can lose or gain weight but body shape and bone size are genetic. Are they assuming all women have 'skinny bones' and small frames like they do? FYI= women come in all shapes and sizes. Why is this not mentioned?

  • @OneRandomBlonde The most disappointing about the book is to find out that neither of these women ever had a weight problem so where are they coming from? You really cannot speak to it if you have never been there. Recipe book is fine if you just want to add some different types of recipes to your life. Yes women do come in all shapes and sizes. When was the last time you saw an older person who is really skinny look good in the face? Everyone deserves choice.

  • @deedevinebrake I agree! This is also a very DANGEROUS book because the diet has very little protein which is BAD for anyone who is diabetic or who has a immune system problem. It seems like this 'skinny bitch' fad is dying because people realize these women are full of BS and the diet DOESN'T WORK! And yes....take a really good look at these women ON VIDEO they look old, wrinkly and scrawny with no muscle tone...just the way MOST older vegans tend to look!

  • This book tries to shame women into thinking that if you aren't skinny, something is "wrong" with you and a vegan diet will fix it. I have a vegan friend who hates this book and she made a good point: The book attacks women's self esteem and self worth. It is a classic "Emperor wears no clothes" mind trick. The book basically tells you "If you don't agree with us you are fat, insensitive and stupid." This book promotes an unhealthy mindset and is downright insulting to women!

  • The book also has TONS of cartoons in it of a very anorexic looking female character. These women also CAN'T WRITE WELL and constantly use curse words to try to make the book funny and interesting. It ISN'T! To people who actually DO know about health, nutrition and fitness this book sounds like it was written by an angry vegan girl who is in the 5th grade! They should have called the book, "Greedy Bitches Taking Your Money" Because NO health professional would ever reccommend this book!

  • I read this book and honestly it was the WORST "diet" book ever! It is basically a big vegan rant preaching that every woman can magically be "skinny" if they are vegan. The book isn't based on current science or nutrition. Books like this put women back about 50 years. We don't all have genes to be "skinny" and I have known some very unhealthy vegans! I have no problem with people being vegan but I have a HUGE issue with these women making false claims and promoting an unhealthy body image!

  • They are amazing and have impacted a lot of people. I have been considering becoming a vegan for a week now, and I'm definitely going to try it.

  • you guys think this is good, check out food inc that will change your mind even more about the foods you eat.

  • I just ordered this on amazon....im praying that it helps

  • these bitches makes sense...im already following raw food diet

  • not sure I could cook and eat this healthy but I want to be thinner as I go into the next decade I could try and maybe I would feel better and love how I look I a ready for change so I would buy this book I think they seem like nice normal women contrary to what I heard.

  • OK don't thumb me down, Because I lovvve the book. But we have milk cuz its got calcium, right? Calcium is essential. And I know, yh, there are other ways of calcium. Milk is the best.

  • @guineapiglover103 No it isn't it causes osteoporosis

  • A past roommate of mine had this book and I really learned a lot. I didn't realize the harsh reality of the slaughter houses and how poor animals are really being treated. My family eats meat and animal products so it's tough, but while i'm up on campus it's much easier for me to start getting used to passing up the meat and trying soy products. I've lost 20 pounds this semester and I feel great!

  • why skinny bitch ? you should be skinny lovely bitches, I am mostly vegatarian, i don't drink milk from cow tits. but i do like ice cream.

  • I made the Sheppards Pie, so good!

  • Really good books. The part about animal torture made me cry so much. It's so true, but super hard to leave all that food. I'm trying though :) I'm already a vegetarian so that part wasn't hard, but being a vegan is extremily hard...I love the books though, keep em coming ladies!

  • how do you know that?

    What if it is?

  • yeah milk is for babies

  • HMM i wonder if people will ever make cheese out of human milk!??? O_O

  • i think human milk is too thin to do that. i know cause i looked it up once.

  • such great books!

  • What is going on with this comment board that none are getting posted? oh well I wrote two of pretty much the same thing to answer a question someone asked me. Oh well. Gotta go!

  • Cows milk belongs to the baby calves who mom cows are pregnant with, which is the way they are forced to produce milk

--for us.We have no right to take that away when there are nutrient rich substitutes.

I know it's easier to be in denial than to see the truth that cows milk has pus, traces of blood,infection,antibiotics...

Try a few times a week to have maybe soy milk from the company Silk--the chocolate flavor--my kids treat! Our favorite soy, rice or almond milks are the refrigerated kind.

  • do you eat eggs?

  • The authors describe eggs as a chicken's menstraul cycle...which it is. What goes into a chicken comes out of a chicken into their eggs. Plus there's tons of other good stuff you can eat and bake with as substitutes.

  • thekittensx,

Human babies don't need cows milk either. They need human breast milk.

    .

  • fleurdeles, you should recheck your facts... yes our ancestors drank and ate dairy products but considering the sedentary lifestyle of humans today dairy is just detrimental. Years ago, there were no doctors or studies to report on colon problems, constipation, osteoporosis, etc. You are correct in saying that fatty foods and fizzy drinks are extremely dangerous for us, but dairy isn't the angel product either. The authors, I found, know their stuff. Excellent book. Very informative.

  • i love tits but i'll take a skinny bitch over a fatty anyday of the week. there's no nutritional need to drink milk that can't be met by drinking hemp, rice or almond milk.

  • great book. very intelligent.

  • i read the book and found out that its just plain wrong, drinking milk is not a new thing, people have been consuming dairy products for thousands of years,i come from a region where our ancestors consumed dairy products at every meal, people didnt complain about bad colons or constipation, its all the preserves and additives and salt in all these fried precooked /readymade meals, there is no secret to a healthy living, eat homemade meals, seasonal fruits and veg and stay away of fizzy drinks thats it

  • Comment removed

  • you're just all over these vegan videos. your either fat or dating a fatty or your just a redneck

  • GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Soy milk has more calcium, no pus, and is not a product of immense suffering. :D

  • its too rich. only babies ned something so strong cuz they´re growing litterally by the hour.

no grown up needs something so nutritient

  • It is kind of insulting saying that we eat like posh spice. Victoria Beckham[Posh] has an eating disorder. She may mask it but, it is there. Vegans can be healthy, she is not.

  • so basically in the books it talks about going on a vegetarian diet???

  • Skinny bitch rocks! I love it! :) Great book, full of wisdom! Hugs from Germany to all the vegans in the world

  • Being a skinny bitch is awesome. We eat watever we want. ANd we stay skinny.

  • @windrix1 except awesome non-vegan food. retard.

  • This book is right on track :)

  • Is it weird to be lactating green nipple juices?

  • I read it, no effect..

  • these girls saved my life. every fat person NEEDS to read this book. and wtf yeah there skinny.

  • lol, american fat ass

  • whoaaa, lay off the eye makeup a little there ladies. good information though.

  • by the way, the chick in the green is ridiculously flat-chested. maybe it's not good to be THAT much of a skinny bitch.

    100% agreed though about dairy.

  • pretty insulting. what if thats just her body type to have small boobs no matter what her size? or would you prefer 200 lb women with big tits instead of a healthy woman with average size?

  • they aren't that skinny tho..

  • but they're healthy. thats the point

  • The authors of "Skinny Bitch" don't advocate anoxeria: they advocate HEALTHY EATING. Get it right, SELATIK 1! Veganism can be healthy and it can be unhealthy. Many people don't RESEARCH THE NUTRIENTS you need in a healthy diet. Then when they start getting all of these medical problems they blame veganism as a whole. It's not veganism that is a diet, it's you. Veganism is a moral based diet made by people who realize that suffering in ALL species is wrong. Don't be a dick. Go vegan.

  • i agree with you i got hella sick by turning into a vegan for a year i jumped from eating all sorts of things into eating nothing...people have to do it step by step like first maybe leave pork and steak then leave chicken then fish so on and so forth i dont reccomend people to turn vegan in an instant ull get really sick

  • dmis: I've read a great deal on the subject and have subjected myself to a lot of different regimens. I am 6' 6" and male, and when I was on the vegan diet, I shrunk down to 145 pounds! Imagine country singer Trace Adkins or Michael Jordan (both my height) weighing only 145. Not good.

The Weston A Price website addresses the issue of veganism thoroughly.

And regarding my "negative comments"; The Skinny Bitch book is chock full of negative commentary, so what gives?

  • at least the negative things they say are true

  • I commend these authors and am glad that my diet is cruelty free.

  • fulmaress: you don't know me and furthermore you are not qualified to analyze me. I only fasted briefly at times but otherwise I was eating plenty of vegan-style foods which weren't giving me what I needed to maintain my weight. I started with eliminating sugar and junkfoods, which is reasonable, but then kept going by eliminating not only meat, but also dairy, seafood and eggs. I ate all the "politically correct" foods, combined my proteins, avoided "bad" food combinations, chewed well.

  • As a former vegan with an eating disorder, I read from these books PRECISELY the same toxic psycho-babble that roared in my head when at 20 I pushed myself to the brink of death by starvation eating a vegan diet (I'm 6'6", male, but weighed 145 lbs).

Some apt comments from others on "Skinny Bitch":

"This book is a PETA pamphlet in chick-lit clothing and an innovative fusion of animal rights activism with punitive dieting tactics that prey on women's insecurities about their bodies."

  • "The relentless bullying peppered throughout the authors' advice accounts for much of the book's humor, including quips like "you need to exercise, you lazy shit," "coffee is for pussies" and "don't be a fat pig anymore." It was a formerly anorexic friend of mine who nailed it when she read excerpts from the book. 'When you have an eating disorder,' she told me, 'that's the voice you hear in your head all the time.'"

  • "The self-flagellating extremism seemed silly and childish"

"The obscene, negative self-talk used in these books completely nullifies any scientific references and footnotes given to back the authors' position, in my opinion. How can you take seriously nutrition writers who are so utterly reckless and irresponsible?"

"Barnouin and Freedman, under the ruse of weight loss expertise, alternate concern for animal abuse with reader abuse."

  • "Thanks to 'Skinny Bitch,' women who hate their bodies no longer need rely on their own self-loathing to stoke the flames of what seems like motivation but is actually self-flagellation -- penance for the sin of being too fat. Now dieters can have the convenience of a former model (Barnouin) and a former modeling agent (Freedman) putting their transgressions in the black-and-white terms of right and wrong. 'If you eat crap', they chirp, 'you are crap.'"

  • "It's a heavily agenda'd method of preying on the dieter, whose mind is weak from starvation and preoccupation with nothing but food. Have you tried to hold a conversation with somebody on a diet? The first 10 pounds they lose are mostly brain."

  • Unlike you I've recently become interested in a vegan (or at least vegetarian) diet, but I agree with you on this point. I've noticed it with what I've read in the book, and it's all about being "skinny bitches" not "healthy women." There's some information in the book that I find useful, but the format it's it is kind of off putting.

  • I agree flemingericae, but there is a market for this drivel. I just try to occasionally point out the dangers of veganism as a veteran of it. I have to take long breaks, though, because the vegan advocates remind me so much of myself 25 years ago. It's scary.

  • The first warning: The book's title.

The 2nd warning: the authors are a model and a model agent.

    The 3rd: it's promoting veganism.

The 4th: The language and self-loathing verbiage.

    5th: illustrations of gaunt women.

The book's authors are MODELS -- likely suffering from an eating disorder -- & getting a chunk of cash from the many other women and girls in our country with eating disorders.

This book is very irresponsible and if you have an ounce of self-respect, do not buy it.

  • selatik you judging the book by its own cover, you have to read what is inside.

  • jackdone: I used to have an eating disorder--I already know what the books says

  • im about half way through skinny bitch (picked it up yesterday in a bookshop, totally by chance). id love to see a book about raising healthly happy vegan kids and a book about sports nutrition (basics, but as "holistic" as the skinny bitch is). i know this may be a good bit out of the authors expertise, but I think the love challanges, and would produce a great, funny, useful, inspiring read on those topics. keep up the great work!

  • fulmaress: Raising children on a vegan diet is extremely un-healthy. You will stunt their growth mentally and physically in doing so. And the fact is the authors of this book have NO "expertise" to begin with! Just because they write a book doesn't mean they know jack.

This book is for women who hate their bodies and seek to punish it on a vegan regimen. Obviously, sales are good . . .

  • I once had a severe eating disorder and I starved myself, on a vegan diet, down to 145 lbs! (I'm a guy, 6'6"). Can U imagine country singer Trace Adkins or basketball hero Michael Jordan (both the same height) weighing 145? Yeah, I looked like I was right out of Auschwitz. That's like the average-height woman down to 70 or 80 pounds!

My family was very worried, obviously, and literally begged me to give up the tofu and brown rice for at least some eggs or butter if I didn't want to eat meat.

  • Even though I was clearly starving to death, I kept thinking that somehow I was failing at veganism--that there was some way to do it "properly". I read and read a lot of books. I also thought that I was "toxic", and actually went on a few fasts! My mother saw me without my shirt on one day and cried. But in defense of my righteous diet, I would recite text from the learned gurus and vegan experts who would protect me from the heathen meat-eating lies!

  • Luckily, I gave in to powerful cravings for butter, eggs, cheese, and yes a little meat. Within weeks, my weight rose to 170--still a bit thin for a guy my height but out of the danger zone. I now weigh 235--on par with Trace Adkins and Michael Jordan

So, now, when I read excerpts from Freedman's book, I read the exact same toxic psycho-babble that pushed me literally to the edge of death by starvation at age 20. It scares me that this book is on any best-seller list! Buyer beware!!

  • Hi selatik1, eating disorders are difficult things to deal with, esp that the symptoms and causes can be very varied and dependant on "personal" factors. To be honest, however bad your experiences were, they do not seem to have much to do with veganism itself. You were simply starving yourself. Meat-consumers also suffer from this condition. It's more common in certain age-groups + more often in women than man. Diet (veg or meat) is not a factor.

Vegetarian/vegan diet is NOT a slimming diet.

  • But if you starve yourself, you will become a zombie, whatever your belief, religion or motivation. It seems likely that you may have low self-esteem plus you are sensitive to ethical issues. You punished yourself by eating badly or not at all (typical eating disorder symptom), and the deeper you went in this crisis, the more desperate you've become. Finally you accepted a quick fix (change of diet). The low self esteem is associated with guilt. You felt guilty.

  • But finally you have decided to discard the self-destructing way of thinking (well done!). But in order to wave off the fear of guilt and potential questions from others, you blamed veganism for what you deep inside felt was your failure. You are very hard on yourself. You are an unforgiving judge. It has to be black or white for you.

  • In "Skinny Bitch" book, veganism is a small part of the whole range of lifestyle changes, all of them focused on health and well-being. I personally know few overweight vegans and I (lactoovovegetarian) had to work hard and monitor my energy intake to lose few excess pounds. This included reduction in fast-foods, comfort foods and eating late + loads of cardio excercise like swimming and cross-training.

  • The foods modern humans eat are very different from natural healthy diet of omnivore/herbivore mammal. in order to stay well +prevent diseases (heart disease, diabetis, osteoporosis, cancers etc) we should ALL pay attention to what we eat. veganism is a better option than fastfoods, processed foods & pesticide/antibiotics/steroid packed foods we consume every day. those chemicals +plenty more toxins are found much more in meat+dairy than in plant food.

  • I also know people who were raised as vegans and today are healthy energetic and strong adult individuals.

you mentioned the authors dont know what they are talking about. well, they do reference their sources. you can easily check out all the scientific papers, newspaper articles, books, websites and other sources they used. that shows some respect for the reader too. they dont claim to have come up with all this themselves.

  • why would any woman care about how YOU percieve her???

now, if you were not rude and your comments were not brainless rubbish, MAYBE women would bother reading them.

  • I am sorry you did not enjoy being vegan. I love it. I have lost weight, my blood pressure is fantastic, and I have plenty of energy to burn 1200 Cal at the gym. I have not even had a cold for the last 10 months (when I was an omni I was constantly sick...) What on earth did you eat when you were vegan? You need a balanced diet, containng of grains (and grain products), beans, veggies, fruits, berries, nuts, seeds. I wish I could cook for you... ;-)

  • that's a really nice post:)

  • i'm already a vegetarian and reading skinny bitch has inspired me to go vegan. i'm just so disgusted by what goes on in factory farms and what kind of crap could be in food, i just can't do it anymore...

  • Lmao "how to eat while you're knocked up" xD.

This book inspired me to go vegetarian, in the future I want to go vegan as well. If you are considering going veghead, read this book! They write and give facts in a very motivating way, I used to hate vegetarians, and now I am one!

Being vegetarian/vegan is wayyy healthier than eating meat. Do a little research.

  • Okay. While we vegetarians and vegans ARE NOT dying of cancer or diabetes or obesity and living longer, we will remember those words.

  • The prevailing theory on the vegan B12 anomaly is that the omnipresent detritus (including microscopic bits of fungus and bacteria naturally floating around in the air) that collects on fruit in the wild used to provide the few MICROGRAMS per day humans require, but since we now have to scrub all our food (thanks to the miracle of pollution), we lose out on that.

I know: You're not interested in truth, just stuffing yourself with meat. Good, GO STUFF YOURSELF!

  • I never lost weight before becoming vegetarian, thanks for this great book!

  • Just saw them on ellen(trust me I was flippin channels and do not endorse any crap tv)and they said ASPERTAME-they didn't say the real truth (its a serious poison) but they said it was a chemical and not to eat things with it...hey thats better than nothing.Watch the video sweet misery if you care about anyone who uses aspertame.Oh yeah they both look good too.

  • your an idiot. Why knock people who are trying to better themselves?

  • Again, another example of someone that is clueless.

  • looks good,i want to buy it.

  • Bitch.....is back!
