underestimated at the time of release, now 30 years later its great so many people recognise this as one of the Police's finest songs. Andy sublime, Stewart makes up his own beats and drives the whole thing, Sting in best voice. Remarkable band - and from England. Be proud.
Yes..and yes again..heard all this stuff as a kid..didnt realise how good it was..miss gradenko should have been no1...too much information..have you heard that track!...
Waddy Watchel admitted he stole this intro from Andy Summers for Edge of Seventeen, admitting he didnt used the fuzz and effects that the Police used that he just played the shit!
@Taffsmanlive yes, a complete rip off. There weren't even subtle changes. I guess she thought her voice would cover it up or maybe she'd never heard of The Police.
Anyone out there get "faked out" by the intro/verse, so that you're exactly one eighth note off until the chorus comes in (when you then realize you've been tapping the wrong beat)? During the opening, then, when you hear Andy's kick peddle come in, it feels syncopated (except that it's really squarely on beats 2 and 4). Any thoughts and/or links to articles/web sites discussing this would be greatly appreciated!!
Bring on the Night is the most beautiful song of The Police. I love the guitar on it. We can listen to this guitar line also at the beginning of the movie of Sting's debut solo career Bring on the Night filmed in Paris. My first sting concert ....such a long time ago...
I love the police saw them live 20 years ago. I am an artist. This is one of the reasons I wanted to sing and perform. Love the beat, the voice, and the amazing guitar solo. Love love it. Make me feel high with out any drugs but music.
Like all great bands The Police tunes stil stack up decades later sound virtually as fresh as the day they were released, absolutely love this tune, it's all good especially Andy Summers' solo, electrifying.
all my friends think im strange, because i admire real music like the police, diar straits, guns n roses, ect. all the cracker jack rave shite they listen to has no meaning, this is true music right here

Only 203,541 views! I can't believe it. This is one of the best Police songs from the time that they were at their best. Bring back memories of good times in the early 80's
Said it once and I'll say it again--brilliant. Incredible orchestration; just beautifully beautifully put together. . . the sentiment is there and it moves through the music like a ghost. Few pieces of music evoked emotion in me like this one. Spanic's version is a classy tribute and the haunting quality is still there despite the difference in genre.
@SuperLowlander : If Stevie Nicks can play the guitar like Andy Summer plays in this song then I will say that maybe a second of this song would sound like Nicks.
aries4961: I think you are talking about Masoko Tanga. It is on their first album Outlandos D'amour--last track, first side, I think. It's been awhile. I used to listen to it on a turntable on long summer nights when I was a teen in the 80s. Great music, it shows that all of the 80s wasn't synthesizer fluff. Real New Wave and Real Punk (not NIrvana or Green Day) from 1977 to about 1983. Then the synth stuff came in.
i need 2 no what is the name of the song on this album when Sting sounded like he was just adding lib & making up lyrics: " don nobod no what u dun ok" but the music is booming, good good stuff. somebody plz email me & let me no. i am drawing a blanc.
Definitely my favorite of The Police masterpieces : especially the mysterious intro, the guitar start and its never ending spiraling melody, the reggae style chorus, the determined bass solo at 2:29 followed by a crazy crying guitar
Punk morphing to New Wave. The edgy bridge between 70s disco and 80s synth music. This was our sound as teens then. The time was the fallout from the 60s and 70s drug era and sexual revolution. Society had been turned upside down and there seemed no way to set it right again. This music exemplifies the angst about rampant societal nihilism, excess, right wing politics and the Second cold war. This is a song about a murderer's last moments alive. It's seething with existentialistic hopelessness
@hazelrozepugs Google sting is a swinger & read the article on sting & his wife Trudie.
