Super bacana a performance do Alex De grassi! penso muito em um dia vê-lo num palco brasileiro. Grande representante da música New Age, que merece meu respeito.Parabêns Alex pelo seu trabalho!!! um grande abraço, Dido Voxon.
Went up to visit my aunt in Sacremento, and one night I went with her and her friend to a house concert, where Alex was playing. Completely blown away - what a talent!
Does anyone know what he does to his nails? I've had such trouble with mine that I've thought about going to a nail salon to get them to do a super hard nail set on my right hand. Kinds looks like that's what he did. Anyone know?
@CookTheBruce He did go to a salon. I play classical guitar and that is a common problem amongst players when they have nail problems. There are also nail hardeners like "Tough as Nails" and so forth. You can pick that up at any local Walmart or Walgreens. People will also cut ping pong balls and glue them to the underside of the nail and then file them to the correct shape.
If I had a complaint about Alex, and they are hard to find,is that he doesnt use a little reverb on songs like this and Cumulous Rising to recreate the ambiance they have on the studio recordings. I love that big Windham Hill sound on Deep at Night for example. Its easy enough to do with a rack the size of a briefcase pluged in to any PA and about 5-10 minutes of tweeking.
Iwent to see Alex years ago ..but it snowed all day. He still gave me and 5or 6 others the concert of our lives. He's a great fella and he was a fan of Hedges as well as a friend of his. Michael and him have different styels is all. I like them both personally...tho MH is gone. Want to hear Michael Hedges the 2nd? Go to a Willie Porter concert when he is by himself! He is awesome!
I talked to him at a live recording session here in Denver a few years ago and he told me the nails were acrylic. He said naturals were too hard to maintain. They sure look fake here.
I saw Alex in 2000 in Red Bank NJ not to far from where I grew up, got to have coffee together. I was a big fan in the 90s since hearing Deep At Night and the WH. samplers. Excellent guitarist, but the nails (yuck) have gotta shorten (detracts too much from his professional musicianly image). Someone told me he lives in CT, but dont know for sure.
@mcaputoguitar Hedges a close second? Child, please! De Grassi is a fine guitarist, but he is rudimentary compared to the boundaries Hedges destroyed with his efforts. Don't ever dishonor MH's memory with a comment like that. Even Alex himself would chide you over it.

@CookTheBruce Looks like he has acrylics on his nails. That's what I use, you can even buy the acrylic and do it yourself for cheaper.

He came to my university last month. I'm a classical guitarist and it's inspiring to watch him play on stage.

The best acoustic guitarist out there...and this is one of his best tunes. Michael Hedges is a close second ;-)
