Krugman is considered a great economist because he looks at what the numbers actually say and then honestly describes them instead of getting into the political ideology that modern market economics has become. Free market economics once described a radical understanding of economics, but has been hijacked by conservatives and the wealthy elites to justify keeping all the money flowing upward.
