David Tennant is a stellar actor, regardless (check him out in Hamlet!) But, I'm not entirely convinced that what we witnessed was merely acting. He's been a huge Doctor Who fan his whole entire life, and I think he GENUINELY "did not want to go." Which, of course, makes the scene even sadder. Excuse me, y'all, I need more tissues.
Funny thing is, when I listen to this... I don't just see 10 going - I see all the Doctors. I always see the Doctor as that, not just "the tenth Doctor". That makes this regeneration so much sadder to me
@Purufufuru maybe becuase Ten's season ended with a great doctor that we all were connected to before heading into Matt Smith (not saying he isnt good). David had this love for Doctor Who, which you could see that you could see as he was regenerating (well at least I coult). He connected with his own role. 10 and 11 are my favorite of the doctors i have seen. 4 comes in second then 1 then 2 then 3. those are all the doctor i have seen and i have only seen one episode for 1, 2 and 3. in my opinion they were all great though
The downfall a beautiful character... a beautiful piece of music to accompany it, about death and life and glory and farewells- how could you not be touched?
What makes this scene so sad for me is the realization of how painful regeneration is for the Doctor. In all of his other regeneration's he has either been unconscious or has had to be brave for the people around him. This is the first regeneration where we get to see what it is actually like, and its very painful.

@torchwoodchesterfiel well Doctor Who is all about change and we will all have our favorite Doctors. i personally like 11 because he brings in a lot of classic Whoness to the show. But yes, sometimes i miss 10 too. Maybe with the 50th anniversary they'll do something special with Doctors 9,10 and 11. :)
I get slightly different translations on the Latin, but as it's a fairly ambiguous language in terms of English translation, I still think it's wonderful :)
For someone who hates it when they refer to the different incarnations of the Doctor by single cardinal numbers instead of the ordinal plus Doctor, I really like this song.
Everybody seems to use this translation, but I really don't like it because of how the person translated "beati pacifici" and "dum spiro fido". It's all very well to have a non-literal translation of the other stuff, but these two lines are the Latin version of "blessed are the peacemakers", and a play on the Latin saying "dum spiro spero" "while I breathe I hope". "Dum spiro fido" is "while I breathe I trust". You lose a whole dimension of the song when you translate these lines too loosely.
I didn't know there were words in that until now (thought the chorus was warbling a bunch of random tragic vowels). Finding out there are actual lyrics, and what they are, and that they're so absolutely perfect for Ten - that all just made the experience so much more gut-wrenching all of a sudden.
I keep thinking I'm done grieving for him, and here I am weeping all over again! (I mean this in a good way).

@torchwoodchesterfiel well Doctor Who is all about change and we will all have our favorite Doctors. i personally like 11 because he brings in a lot of classic Whoness to the show. But yes, sometimes i miss 10 too. Maybe with the 50th anniversary they'll do something special with Doctors 9,10 and 11. :)

I get slightly different translations on the Latin, but as it's a fairly ambiguous language in terms of English translation, I still think it's wonderful :)

For someone who hates it when they refer to the different incarnations of the Doctor by single cardinal numbers instead of the ordinal plus Doctor, I really like this song.

Everybody seems to use this translation, but I really don't like it because of how the person translated "beati pacifici" and "dum spiro fido". It's all very well to have a non-literal translation of the other stuff, but these two lines are the Latin version of "blessed are the peacemakers", and a play on the Latin saying "dum spiro spero" "while I breathe I hope". "Dum spiro fido" is "while I breathe I trust". You lose a whole dimension of the song when you translate these lines too loosely.

I didn't know there were words in that until now (thought the chorus was warbling a bunch of random tragic vowels). Finding out there are actual lyrics, and what they are, and that they're so absolutely perfect for Ten - that all just made the experience so much more gut-wrenching all of a sudden.
I keep thinking I'm done grieving for him, and here I am weeping all over again! (I mean this in a good way).
Also: Thank you for posting in both Latin and English. (^_^)

@STARPD7 i had my friend who took Latin for 12 years translate for me. This is how i ended up with the translation. Even she said some parts were "as close as she could get"
