  • oh maaaaan I wish I could've seen this!

  • We can't use the word "Asian" next to "White" and "Black." The former is a geographical location, the latter are pigments. We need something like "Yellow" or "Tan" and it would include people from southern Greece, Italy, Spain, Northern Africa, Eastern Africa, Middle East, Mexico, Central/South America, Natives of Alaska, America, Australia, etc. "Yellow" or "Tan" or "Bronze" Americans are a huge group in a democratic system.

  • YES!!! Filipinos ARE Asian... so get over it. The Philippine Island Nation is just a hop, skip & jump south of Taiwan & north of Malaysia & to the West sits the S. China Sea. Hong Kong is a 1 1/2 flight from Manila. Hawaii, Somoa & Tonga are FAR from the Philippines. the Ph

  • Where's the Viets?

  • I've had that moment when someone told me my English was very good. And I was born in raised in Virginia.

  • I hope you get the whole point to the documentary instead of complaining why your ethnicity is not represented in it .. I mean, it doesn't mean it is ignorant to your ethnicity, it just happened to choose 14 Asians and none of them is from your ethnicitiy.Get over it.

  • Sometimes I feel so sad that in my country you don't have these kinds of documentaries because we don't have this conversation, even though we do have all kinds people from different cultures living here!

  • i second. third. and fourth that comment. WHY ARE THERE NO FILIPINOS REPRESENTED IN THIS DOC??? WTF!

  • @fordham77 This year's "East of Main Street" has Filipinos massively represented! It's live now on HBO On Demand! Apl.de.ap and Willy Santos are in it!

  • omg the blasian guy is hawtt!!!!! he's got a sexy voice too..sounds like the rock's voice.

  • I watched this documentary and it was very good and informative about Asian americans. I particulairly loved the two gentlemen at the end of this documentary and how they explained people confused them when they looked nothing alike. Height, weight, facial features and they passed for each other in america.

  • when will or was this be on? i have comcast if anyone knows that would be great

  • @jjaeger27

It's playing now until the end of this month. For Comcast subscribers, you can watch it free if you go to Top Picks on Comcast On Demand and then in the folder Asian Entertainment under Specials.

  • just watched the special and enjoyed the different perspectives; Shows that "Asian Americans" span a wide spectrum of cultures and backgrounds, although I wish that Filipinos were represented

  • @michaelmina Check out this year's show to see Filipinos represented!

  • This was a great docu. I strongly recommend watching it if you're able!

  • Yay Kit !

  • Considering that Filipinos are the second largest Asian population in the US, it would have been appropriate to hear their perspective. But obviously, the casting was influenced by the people who made the presentation instead of diversity, which is the theme of the celebration. It was refreshing to see the Hmong lady though but for the most part, I pushed the fast forward button of my DVR's remote control.

  • It's hard, being a different ethnicity and having to grow up with a family who believes that they could run their life perfectly fine in their social structures-in America- because it's a free country. I just wish I was considered an American, sometimes, just because I am who I am. I was born and raised in America so I consider myself American. Is that not right? :\

  • I hope they have a big/diverse enough mix of Asians to include SE Asians as well.

  • when i filled out the census the philippines was in the category of asian. imo pacific islanders are would be like hawaiians and samoans. geographically, isn't the philippines is a part of the southeast asian reigoin? japan is a bunch of islands like the philippines, but why doesn't this argument include them. they would be pacific islanders as well then.

  • 0:32 that lady just had her botox..lol

  • i think we still have a long way to go.

  • Are Filipinos Asians. Some of you all don't want to be asians you know what I mean. There's another check for pacific islanders.

  • @KenNaNa2k then are japanese pacific islanders as well?

  • @KenNaNa2k then are japanese pacific islanders as well?

  • @KenNaNa2k

You need to go back to your history and geography class. And do not judge a group of people based on your limited knowledge, understanding, prejudice and preconceived ideas about them. It makes you look stupid. Just a friendly advice.

  • Blackinese!!!

  • @GooseHinson they sure needed their token black guy.

  • american asian american african yeah

  • If they wann see themselves as Americans then they need to stop saying "Asain"-American n just start saying "Im American."

  • @churchcamp101 yea americans always say this and then walk up to "other americans" and ask "....so where are you from?" LOL

  • @churchcamp101 - I think you'll like this program. I feel the same way. The last episode in the series addresses exactly that.

  • I never really got why we all can't just be called Americans (in America of course). To an extent it makes since, it's great to know what your background is but we all Amercans... that's it.

  • @0justBETHANY

Because people have cultural identity. Not everyone grew up the same way you did. Americans may grow up going to same schools, listening to the same music, etc. But in this diverse cultural melting pot, people still have to have a way to find their identity. Their cultural communities are a good way to start. So yes, we are all Americans, but we have different backgrounds and identities— isn't that what America is about?

  • @0justBETHANY We just don't want to lose our culture. It's what makes us unique and at the same time, it brings us together. In the U.S., there is a different culture going on: the love of baseball, grilling means throwing hamburger patties and hot dogs on the grill (not real BBQ), and other things. The U.S. is a tossed salad of different cultures around the world, and each person wants a sense of belonging and identity. I'm proud to say I'm Vietnamese-American!

  • I know right

  • Where's the Filipinos?

  • @13stepsto i think the fourth guy was fillipino

  • @13stepsto right here lol

  • @13stepsto filipinos don't care about this. I'm not saying its bad or good but who really gives a shiet about american identity

  • @ChefRomeo1 I am very sorry to hear that. At least in my school, there are more than thousands of students and faculties who are so passionate to study and find out what American Identity is...Including my Filipino friends..

  • @13stepsto This year's "East of Main Street" has Willy Santos and Apl.de.ap - both Filipinos!

  • @13stepsto flips are like mexicans
