Sadly no one protests our obsolete electoral process. People don't realize that their vote does not *directly* influence presidential elections. I fear most people don't digest flaws in the system, or the tenet that Aaron Sorkin encapsulated when he wrote this speech (beautifully delivered by Michael Douglas). Conservatives have turned intellectualism into a dirty word. Hate is impervious to all facts or reason.

This speech needs to be given by a SITTING President! A President with BALLS and one who loves this country as much as I do and that means we GROW UP, give up the guns (which we do NOT need) . If America is to survive we all must understand that being a democratic society means we agree to do the good for the many and NOT the few, espcialy just because the few make the most noise...It's about doing whats best for the country as a whole. For Americans!!

No, it's not.
That's why the US is a constitutional republic, not just a republic. There are laws to prevent the majority from oppressing the minorities.
I get what you're saying, but in a true democracy (they don't really exist), 51% of the population could decide to legally enslave/rape/maim/kill the other 49%, for no other reason than the majority said so.
Also, the majority of people are utterly clueless when it comes to what's good for the country (I'm usually one of them)

Funny how this fictional president talks about defending the Constitution with the ACLU, which was created by admitted Communiists who profess belief in a political/economic system completely contradictory to the U.S. Constitution itself and then promises turning America into an anti-gun police state while conviently ignoring the Bill of Rights.
