once this type of car become popular,we going to have another type of crisis....
energy demand way too high....what's probaly going to happend in the future is.... to avoid be waiting to recharge your batt. they will come up with battery exchange...go to a "gas station" and exchange your batt. with a recharged one.
Where does a teenager get $35K to buy a Leaf? Kevin seems like a good kid, but he comes off sounding like a spoiled California bitch. Maybe Kevin's parents could also buy a Leaf for a poor Mexican kid in Orange County too.
Kevin, I could not agree with you more. I cannot wait till Nissan puts me on their waiting list so this 40 something "old man" can throw out the gas hog Chevy built in 2003 (or sell it) and purchase my new Leaf.
This is a really cute video. I wish Nissan could release a soundtrack or something because I was watching the video over and over just to hear the music!
The car will use less electricty to completely charge all 48 batteries from completely dead than an average household dryer will use to dry your clothes in the dryer for 1 hour.
I read, that the capacity of the batterie is 24 kWh. If your dryer needs 24.000 Watt an hour I would recomend to buy a new one. You could run an average Dryer (3000Watt) about 6 hours.
Its cool if you wanna go green and cant afford gas prices.. but well I love the sound of the v8. Why is it that the f150 is one of the top selling trucks and at 17mpg or less.. Admit it.. we are addicted to gasoline/petrol.
I love the leaf, the idea and everything is headed in the right direction with the technology but the majority of 22-year old young adults (or under) can not afford a $27k electric car with a $7,500 rebate ($35k otherwise) without parental assistance. I vote to drop all the fancy menu systems as well as the nav since you only have 100 miles (optimal) / 70ish 'realistic' miles driving range anyways, not predicting the impact A/C has on it possibly dropping the range even further.
this kid probably has a 100000 student loan and now he wants to go in the hole for another 35k...buy a new elantra for 20k and pay off your student loan...it will take you 15 years to recoup the added cost with the gas savings
i am quite young so dont get me wrong, but wouldnt that cost more fore electricity bills, i still agree with the 0 gas it needs but wouldnt that take up alot more electricty? or am i completely wrong?
@Stihl039 - So let's place some bets. Five years from now do you think gas will be less than $3.50 a gallon or more? (Just FYI for someone like me who remembers $0.95/gallon gas - $3.50 is maddening.)
I'm betting in five years the price will be higher than it is now. What's your bet?
I absolutely applaud Nissan, I just would prefer a Tesla Roadster or the Approach Tesla Roadster has taken, meaning Fast Powerful Efficient and Extremely "Cool" designs, this will be the ONLY way we can get the largest polluters to convert (The Rednecks who Love Power and Use High Octane Airplane Fuels + Nitro tanks etc)
Anyways I am so proud of Nissan for doing what they have done, I bet it was a legistical nightmare to produce an ALL electricinto mainstream
I don't care about the electric motor features and that it can save the planet. Just show me the cup holders. Does it have cup holders? If a car doesn't have good cup holders, then I rather walk.
"100% electric" that means its 100% pluged into the electrical outlet wich takes up alot of resources. Then again what if everything was powerd by the anti-resource outlet?
So this is more of a go to work and back home type of car, for 100mi of driving per charge. I live 3 hours from Miami and 1 hour from tampa so Im going to want to take road trips every now and then. That means I will have to stop 2-3 times to charge it. Nope, not for me. They're never going to make a no-gas car at a decent price that can get a decent number on mile of drive time. Because everyone will buy it and it will put the oil companies out of business.
The car would be suitable for majority people. The range is good enough if you go to work, drive your kids to school, go to the mall, etc. on a nice day, open the window, enjoy the fresh air, stay at the stop light without burning fuel. thats every body would dream of
They cost a lot more than a 1600cc turbo diesel ford focus in the UK, to buy, run, service & insure. I get 55MPG town/ 72MPG motorway driving, 30MPH/70MPH. 0-60 in 10s, 120MPH. The LEAF costs MORE to recharge and only does 80miles which is useless. The battery costs as much as the car and only lasts 3 years. Why would anyone buy one? I get the idea behind them, but they are not good enough for the UK, so none are sold here!!!!! no one buys hybrids either as they cost more to run. Work it out.
@urbex2007 Hybrids are more expensive and don't get much better mpg than a good diesel, but because they still use fuel which they still cost a lot to run. And in London there are many charging places, and soon they will be all around the UK, and they will be free in a lot of places. The battery price will probably drop to around £2000 - £3000 in the next few years which isn't bad either.
@urbex2007 Your ford costs £90 to fill, which would give you around 400-500 miles, the Nissan leaf costs £2 to fully charge which gives 109 miles, so to get 400-500 miles on the Nissan leaf it would cost £10-£12, about 9x cheaper.Tax is free, and it is in the same insurance group as your ford. The batteries last for 10 years/100,000 miles. It is an ideal car and they are better in the UK as everything is close together, you worked it out wrong!
I dont know where people come up with the crap they do but i know Kevin personally, hes a very good friend of mine and he isn't from the mid-west. hes from california
You rock Nissan. I've been a fan of Hondas for the past 14 years (I'm 32 years old), but you have converted me. Here's to no new gas vehicles in the near future (2030? A man can dream, can't he? :)
@jasonphos Honda is already making one that can go twice as far as the leaf, it's using hho dry cell technology to allow the batteries go about 240 miles they say on electric. So do what I'm doing and wait for newer technology.
@superboy4you He will be lucky if his battery lasts 3 years and what happens when he is out and realises he can't go more than 40miles before turning back? It's a mad idea! The only thing stopping me when i go out is petrol/diesel stations and I can always put a can in the boot. He would need a generator truck behind him.
@urbex2007 charging stations will be seen more often. it only takes 30minutes at most to charge and besides that, why would you pay $5.00 a gallon of gasoline when you could be paying less than $3.00 per charge? some charging stations may even be free!!! i.e. Target=)
@heartlessvietboy What's his race got to do with it? What, he should be ashamed because somebody can afford to help him buy a car? Who peed in YOUR morning Cheerios?
I would like to see a crash test, I know they have to build them as light as possible to get the battery lasting longer. Just looks like its made out of aluminum foil.
