  • he is a stobie boy stayed in morgan strt

  • Very Witty guy but Don't know who tha woman was interviewing in the freezing cold.

  • @XMARINEmax I think it is Leslie Ash?

  • Loveble, playful, talented chap. Long Live Billy!

  • It`s true that the greats always move like normal folk, like most of us are. Pop stars - only the cool behave like this. Gentlemen.

  • Dock street, the meat market, i nearly fell of my seat laughing when Billy said that, classic, sadly missed

  • loved him loved him loved him - a talent that shone like a beacon, what a loss

  • @mtaylor848 he comes fae Dundee.no where near the same as

John Gordon Sinclair. Opposite sides of Scotland

  • omg he was just adorable.... i could weep. bless him

  • @modmutha Yeah he was...and I'm a straight guy !! ;P

  • Billy Liar

  • 2:58, now you know where Peter Kay and Ricky Gervais got the inspiration for the off camera into the camera look.

  • @socodoco I think Ricky Gervais was copying him even back in the early 80's,he looks and moves just like Billy in that Seona Dancing video but obviously the voice isnt as good but then whos voice is as good as Billy's???Maybe Jeff Buckley?

  • OMG he was so charming. But the best is when the camera man says he knows what a "Meat Market" is and Billy nods at him, than does a double take to check the guy out. lol miss ya billy

  • no he didn't no brothels, just prostitutes in dock street!

  • by meat markets he meant the brothels.

  • That little back and forth is lovely indeed. He was a very, very tender soul, creatornet, and your post is perceptive and heartwarming.

I got to know him and Alan Rankine when they rehearsed at the Kings Buildings in Edinburgh, before the stardom stuff.

A lovely man with a huge talent that he always played down. God rest him.

  • When she says his name wrong, that little back-and-forth between them, and that reaction to her kiss, melts my heart. He seems a very tender soul.

  • such a beautiful man and his talent was sublime. Sadly missed but thankfully we have this kind of footage to help him live on.

  • The William Mozza is referring to is Billy Mckenzie.

  • @tuddydunning look up the film Billy Liar...

  • @mankiebob.....i think the william morrissey is singing about is billy bragg

  • You're probably right but it's not as romantic as my original notion.Billy Braggs good, original and honest (i think) but not as charismatic as Mr McKenzie.

  • I've heard from somewhere that it was Billy Mckenzie that Morrissey was refering to in The Smiths song William It Was Really Nothing. I don't know if its true but Billy seemed to be very charismatic.

  • the song Morrissey wrote 'bout Billy was Suedehead.....when The Smiths wrote and recorded 'William',doubt if they had ever even met, check out the lyric to Suedhead?...and read between the lines, though I thimk it's rather obvious..

  • Was he married

  • RIP Billy -In Lesley Ash's defence her gauche(feathers 4 brains) style gives the whole interview an irreverant-spontaneous feel ! Believe me it could have been far,far worse. He might have been interviewed by,say, the Proffesional and Deferential Scotsman B.A.Robertson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!--Bang fuckin Bang.

  • So sad he is gone. What a talent. (Also loved that he cared so much about his dogs.) RIP

  • yeah she was probably thinking get me out of this cold place and back to london where it is always warm .full of yuppie wankers,

  • Fucking fantastic. Mackenzie is a hero.

  • Thank you for posting.i had this as a girl,i taped it on a betamax, lol, so its long gone.i loved billy as a girl and now at 40+ i have found he still stirs my insides.i was lucky to see them in concert, wow, wow, wow. Do you by any chance have the video of him singing on this boat.if you do please post.thanks again.

  • you shouldn't mention over rated Bono around the magnificent Billy RIP x

  • R.I.P Billy

  • A great talent, sorely missed.

  • Did anybody have one of Billy's whippets? I know the singer out of Heaven 17 got one!

  • Billy. we miss you.

  • you wanker

  • Comment removed

  • i wasnt calling billie a wanker i was calling somebody else it....billie rocks

  • bono owes his voice to this man,he stole his vocals sound

  • Billy's voice was infinitely superior to Bono's!¬!

  • Thanks for the help sgtrayelwood.

I have the Sulk album which is awesome but not heard of Perhaps. Has anyone got a copy to uplaod on the site. I'm not lilely to find this at HMV am I?

    Cheers.

  • Not at HMV, but the two albums The Glamour Chase and Perhaps are readily available as a double CD set at sites like Amazon, for a very reasonable price. :-)

I'm more than happy to share that of Billy's music which is no longer, or never has been, available, but that's where it ends.

  • I have it, contact me and I will send it to you

  • Don't care if he's gay, straight or A sexual but I would like to know what that song is just as the interview ends and the video stops.....Anyone know this? Is it one of his tracks?

  • It's called "Waiting For The Love Boat". It was the second single off "Perhaps".

  • What a nice bloke! Killing himself in his Father's garden shed was NOT the way to go. He loved music, loved his dogs, and it's just a shame he didn't love 'life' as much.

We have his music at least.

  • PURE DUNDONIA!---BILLY looks like SOAPY SOUTAR oota 'OOR WULLIE!'

  • Och no he disnae -ah weel meeby a wee bit, actually quite a lot! Michty me!

  • JINGS!---BILLY'S no' as bonny as thon MAGGIE BROON!!

  • He only alluded to male prostitution on prime time - maverick genius.

  • The interviewer is Lesley Ash - an actress who did a very temporary stint on the Tube filling in for Paula Yates while she was looking after her latest new born.

  • "my record company's Warner. I chose em cuz I like Bugs Bunny" - classic!

  • Billy rankine...jesus.

  • Watching this made me kind of sad and happy all at the same time. I love whenever he'd smile...light up a room. Then, when they showed the pictures of him with his adorable dogs...that put me over the top. And obviously, his talent...I'm glad I discovered them.

  • this woman is obviously someone's freind-she must have got this job via a friend-coz she has zero talent as an interviewer. zero. she does though, in my opinion, have talent for choosing ill advised cosmetic surgery. but that was unfortunate and she has my pity.but she has no no no brain here...maybe its cold, but this interview is P a i n f u l. the artist deserved better.

  • Youve taken the words out of my mouth! She is completely disinterested - a complete travesty of an interview. Even calling him Alan! If only Paula had been available!

  • BILLY MACKENZIE billy why did you kill yourself ! and left us behind ! we miss you and your music ! billy left us in 1997 ! xxx

  • how did he die .. i thought he/they were fab !!!!

  • wish I could have kissed him, gorgeous guy,so talented, really sad what happened to him.

  • Thanks very much for posting this. I'm from Dundee and it's amazing to see this. Dundee was a very dull place in the 1980's and Billy made it more interesting. He's still very much missed here. Billy was a very special talent and a great guy who came from a colourful background. R.I.P. Billy.

  • is that woman fuckin drunk or something

  • That was how they were in the 80s...and the Tube...come on this was the kind of show that allowed Paula Yates to flourish in all of her flirtish girliness. Still fucking great to see The Associates in all their 80s glory, we watched it tonight after a distracted moment of who did that tune..? the guy with the fucking bizarre voice, music was a bit twee, lyrics were interesting..truly unusual pop music, great stuff...!

  • Paula Yates? Is she the woman that was involved with Michael Hutchence before he died?

  • I got to really like the Associates when I was living in Paris (I am French) in the 80's now that I live in London it is a real joy and sadness to get to see Billy Mackenzie through this interview as witty and so talented in his own country and it makes it so very special for me. Thank you for this enlightment. Sadly missed, I heard a song played last week on Jacky radio when I was in a cafe, what a treat it was for me...

  • leslie ash...er, no thanks.

not very interesting - mckenzie deserved someone with brains to interview him...never mind.

    would have been funnier if she had had her trout mouth then! SHE SOUNDS THICK N DISTRACTED.m a y b e s h e i s. awful.

  • Brilliant clip, thanks for posting it.

Does anyone know what that track playing in the background during Muriel Grey's link is? Sound like Echo & The Bunnymen to me but I'm not sure?

  • I've recently found out that it's Bourgie Bourgie, "Breaking Point". There's a video of it on Youtube.

  • Bourgie Bourgie is the group its a song called Breaking Point.Scotish Band from the early eightys.Great Track

  • Billy had one of the most incredible angelic voices in all rock n roll. The only person who paralleled him in a different way was Freddie Mercury. RIP Billy, you were wonderful.

  • This is great footage. He's so charming!

  • Fantastic, thanks for puting this on. He's greatly missed.

  • i HAD THE PLEASURE

AND HE WAS LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME

    INTENSE/FUNNY

THE LOCH STREET GAGS ARE DUNDONIAN DYNAMITE

    LOVELY BOY

    MISSED

  • You have to say this is pretty top - I've never seen him in interview before...

  • fantastic

  • Top bloke ... anyone got any more of his videos or interviews? RIP Sir Billy

  • Great find
