  • No fair--song cuts off before the end. And it was sounding so great!

  • Many thanks for this delightful song, no one sang it like Mildred Baily. You are awesome for sharing!

  • Wonderful voice! She also sings a song called "When That Man is Dead and Gone" that I heard in a documentary called "Human Remains". Does anybody have that song? It's bluesy and cool, I'd love to hear it again.

  • Ms. Bailey was from Washington State.....in a small town called Tekoa.....and died in 1951 in another small town in Washington state called Poughkeepsie(not the one in upstate New York)

  • Why post an incomplete recording? I'm going to channels that play the whole songs.

  • ooH THE ROCKIN CHAIR LADY. i HAVE HEARD OF HER. sHE SOUNDS OK BUT VAUDEVILLIAN OR SOMETHING. SHE WAS BIG IN HER DAY THOUGH

  • Please don't forget about Red Norvo on xylaphone

His lead into the song is excelent - this recording is in my opinion the best rockin chaier ever.why did you cut off the last half?

  • And of course Mildred Bailey was Mrs. Red Norvo.

  • This was recorded in August 1932, featuring Matty Malneck conducting members of Paul Whiteman's orchestra {whom Mildred was recording with at that time}. Incidentally, Hoagy Carmichael first recorded "Rockin' Chair" for Victor in May 1930, leading an rousing "all-star" session he personally hand-picked [featuring Benny Goodman, Bix Beiderbecke, Bubber Miley, Eddie Lang & Joe Venuti, etc.] and delivering a "talk-vocal" with Irving Brodsky..

  • Indeed a very great and warm singer...Hoagy Carmichael wrote this number especially for Mildred (1932)...I`ve posted this number sang by Hoagy himself! (1956). You can see it by clicking my name.

  • Only recently discovered thislady ,why isnt she better known? very underated singer with a beautiful voice.

  • Unique and so stylish.I just love her!

  • But why is it cut off ???

  • Fantastic--really well done! Great to see Mildred Bailey fans! If only she was appreciated this way back then!

  • Great video! Love this song!
