  • screw what all these people say, whatever minor technicalities that may have happened are a part of every live performance. You are fantastic

  • Very sharp, out of pitch. Most of your "problems" could be solved with a round chamber mouthpiece. That tone quality could punch holes in the ceiling. Pitch problems galore, and mainly due to your mouthpiece. Check out a Caravan Mouthpiece or a David Bilger or something like that. You have good fingers, but the tone is NOT good!

  • I would recommend using some rhythmic freedom especially with the slow parts. You can convey a lot more emotion that way. It makes it harder for the pianist but its worth it. Nice sound!

  • I don't like your vibratto... but very good.

  • I don't understand why people use videos like this to brag about their personal accomplishments...*SIGH*

There are some great moments in this. The first few measures feel very dead and lifeless, but you really start to get the emotional qualities of the piece going midway, especially at the climax. Cool down the vibrato, pull out 2 millimeters, and you've got a damn fine performance.

  • very nice man, you have a lot of talent.

  • Wow this is absolutely amazing!!! Your sound and talent is awesome. I play the saxophone. I am only a junior in hight school, so I have some time still but WOW. I want to be able to play this like you played it!

  • yeah trying out for state isn't the most fun thing about solo and ensemble, as we all know, for there's so much competition and so few make it. but for this selection, i played it slower and used vibrato a bit more tactfully. also, it sounded like you spread on many of the high notes, but maybe it was just the recording

  • actually there are 14 spots in texas all state

just two make it to and from area

  • dude try out in texas...where there are over a million people trying out for two spots in the whole all state band

  • muy bien maestro felicidades, es una obra muy expresiva y dificil en afinacion y sonido, pero lo lo hiciste muy bien.!!!

  • felicidades, muy bonito!!!

  • That was incredible. The most important part really is the ending and you aboslutely nailed it.

  • i did this for solo and ensemble this year...very nice, but not quite how i interpreted it...overall, nice job :)

  • this song is very very pretty. it makes me want to get out my sax right now, but I would probably disturb my neighbors. :(

  • oh and you dont just go to state you go the region and area. which knocks out alot of pepole,so its not like all 400 at once. mabey pssh i reallly do not know:p its just nowhere near 400 slots . you have to make area and etc.you probably know

  • lipsman. thats pretty much the same for all states..

  • @edcastle1234 Sorta, but TX has the most/toughest Competition by far.

  • @tigredelnorte19 SO so True! I live in Texas and man it is just intense, Region for me was not easy! but it only pushes my to do better

  • HS students are chosen based on auditions to perform in the top symphonic band of a state.

Where I auditioned there were only 2 open alto sax parts and over 400 auditions for that instrument.

  • were you in all state band in HS?

  • No, I did do WIBC a couple of times up there in Seattle if you are familiar with that honor band. I attended a fairly small high school. What is all state band exactly?

  • Very nice, Very nice! What college are you studying at?

  • Thanks very much. This was my Jr. recital at Southern Oregon University. I study with Rhett Bender.
