  • Korean singers (or at least all I've heard singing) have this absolutely beautiful way of using the head space... Sumi Jo nailed this technique made perfection of it, of course, but I wonder if this is really something all Korean voice teachers teach?

  • LOVE how she says "Vilja the witch of the wood" at 4:01.

  • isn't the second verse supposed to end with "no maiden of mortals so sweetly can kiss?" instead of "he looked and he longed for the magical maid" again?

otherwise, she's an absolutely beautiful singer!

  • @carolinetxwatson yes you are right she proobly accidently messed up

  • @carolinetxwatson yes you are right she probably accidently messed up

  • I've run out of superlatives!

  • What an amazing song and singer!! Awesome!!

  • It is amazing, she sings this marvellous song almost without any burden. She does it perfectly and light. And by the way - she is very beautiful lady.

  • Delivered beautifully, with such sincerity. I'd take that dress if she is giving it away!

  • Class act.

  • ซูมิ โจ คุณสวยมากและสุดยอด ขอบคุณที่นำมาลงให้ชม

Sumi Jo, you are beautiful and excellent. Thanks for posting.

  • Her smile is incredible in this video! Amazing!

  • Her voice is sounds like Renée Fleming. I love both, but just now a I saw that U.U

  • Amazing - she has such beautiful control over her instrument. Her voice itself is so rich and fluid, and those high notes just sound like she's whispering them; perfect performance.

  • très beau mais elle n a pas beaucoup de force dans la voie. Ceci dit celle ci est très pure

  • I love her so much.

    She's perfect. <3

  • @xoxpenguinxox Completely agree, adored her for 20+ years. No one else sounds and looks so good, makes me feel like a stupid teenager again! Such lovely facial expressions whilst singing, no one else can do it.

  • BRAVA

  • is it only me? i speak english but when a soprano sings, i cannot understand no matter who the soprano is

  • @sumimimi0 Agreed! Which is why it angers me when youtube "critics" rag on singers bad french, german, italian, whatever. singing words shouldn't sound exactly like the spoken language, especially english!

  • @saxamaphoneguy1 Youtube opera critics... the definition furnishes the judgment.

  • beautiful, but i'm a strong believer that just because it's classical doesn't mean diction has to go out of the window. it is possible to sing this and still make it understanderble

  • thats coloratura for ya lol ;)

  • @katta666, I absolutely agree. Joan Sutherland is a native English speaker, but I was never able to understand a word she sang when she sang in English.

  • OMG. Amazing.

  • She sings with such little effort. Simply amazing!

  • I do prefer the German version but Sumi stills nails this in English.

I've never heard her German version but will seek it out!

  • actually so many sopranos have beautiful voices, but Sumi has also beautiful appearance! So wonderful!

  • Always enjoyable to hear her. I have to say though, I am wondering why she didn't sing part of the second verse.

HOLY COW she's so beautiful.... WOW..... I want her dress.

  • This is truly lovely. So many Hanna's are older ladies whose voices are not what they were. Sumi Jo has always been careful to stay comfortably in her fach, first as a light coluratura, then as a light lyric, and the voice has remained lovely and true. It really is nice to hear this sung by someone who really can still sing it. Bravo

  • mne nravitsa

  • Lovely!

  • I bet most people wouldn't imagine such a petite lady having such a grand voice ^^

  • ja właśnie to gram na oboju ! :)

  • na opoju...

  • so natural high notes!!!!!!!!!

  • I've heard some of thebest sopranos in the world, I never thought I would here someone who could make those ladies sound like the were singing in the shower. Well Sumi Jo has the most incredible voice I have ever heard and I do not think I will hear anyone better in the future.

  • OMFG!

  • what an incredible sound! the high notes brought tears to my eyes!

  • Quelle merveille ! et quelle gentillesse sur scène ! On adore Sumi

  • Just one word...SUPERB!!!!!

  • As always, Sumi Jo did great. 8D

  • Can't say I like her diction! And I like it faster. But g.d., she DID take the beautiful high notes! And very nicely too!! I actually like it better than Sills 1977 and even - dare I say it - Schwarzkopf. More pure and singerly!

  • in english????? :/

  • Sills does it Sutherland does it Fleming does it so does Lott. I still prefer the German lyrics but English is fine, everybody does it. (Just this aria though)

  • Beautiful.....just BEAUTIFUL

  • This was my granddad's favourite. Have been looking for this for ages. This version is great! Love it!

  • This is a fantastic melody of a Hungarian componist, and is fantastic performance from a beautiful Lady.

    Many thanks for it.

  • Virginia Kerr sings this incredibly...... i saw her in the Merry Widow in the National concert hall in dublin - wow!!

i think it's on her cd too

  • Wonderful rendition. Wish she had done it in the original language though.

  • a fave singer and song...thanks for sharing.

  • Very Plesant, I have not heard this version before.

It is bril Great sound to be remembered. Kev

  • She's marvelous. A very solid singer, beautiful, and perfectly

dressed. I'd buy a ticket to here her anytime.

  • @hipocampelofantocame she is a lovely singer, but her diction is appalling.Worse even , than your spelling. You mean hear, not here.

  • @hipocampelofantocame She does have very good dress sense and taste.

  • She is very good!

  • Y dicen que los angeles no cantan...

  • If I didn't already know the words I would have no idea what she was saying.

  • Wait...that was in English?

  • She made me cry. Those high notes so softly are sooooo amazing.

  • sumi jo is always great

    love her expressions n voice

but i would like to hear the german version, it's prettier

  • What's up with her upper register here? Not her best!

  • One of the greatest airs ever written, with a timeless theme. Wonderful rendition.

  • a couple of questionable vowels in the beginning, but really really beautiful. exactly how it should be performed :)

  • You can also see Jeanette MacDonald sing it in english in the movie The Merry Widow 1934.

  • Beautiful rendition.

  • Super! She was the queen of the night in Salzburg!

  • Such a beautiful voice

  • Damn! Sumi always looks to stunning! And her singing is just...just *sigh* and her acting! wow...

  • Amazing !

Just perfect. What a great artist !
