I remember wanting a girl cabbage patch kid so bad for my birthday. I ended up with a boy cabbage patch named Max since it was the only one my mother could find. Those dolls sold like hot cakes back in those days.
Awesome! Blasts from the past! My niece (humph-laugh) grew up with cabbage patch dolls. Even remember the news reels of mothers fighting other mothers (hair pulling, eye clawing, face ripping, knocked out teeth, etc.) at the departments stores over them. There were rumors that they'd be valuable collectors items one day.
Ahhhh yes, burnin' key cars being raced across mom's linoleum floor. Those were the days. Until, of course, dad came home in a bad mood. "Get these %$^&in' things off this floor! I almost broke my leg on these $%%#in' things!"
The cabbage patch pree-mee was my favorite toy as a kid. That, and the cabbage patch jaundis and the cabbage patch jacobsen syndrome and cabbage patach Imperforate anus. They were the best!
Is it weird that 25 yrs later I can remember my CPK names?? Tabitha was old school, Alana was a preemie & Daria had a tooth & a China Passport! Creampuff was the Koosas. I can't believe my family gave me 4 CPK's.....I wish I still had them!
You know, I never thought I would ever get nostalgic for the 80s but I am now. Things were gentler and a lot nicer although nobody said it at the time. All they did was look back at a perceivedly nicer 50s and 60s. I guess we'll probably hear people say the same about today in 20 years' time.
@Stonecold041989= Gee Mister Hitler, that's a very interesting opinion. So I guess the Ninja Turtles were responsible for kids painting themselves green, and getiing lost in a sewer? That is the most asenine thing I've seen on YouTube today. Quit blaming a doll and toys in general for the problems of the world. Those girls got pregnant, because it was their fault. Don't pass the buck on a lousy piece of plastic. Take responsibility for your own actions.
wow not as if Preemies arent a reality in life and people didnt wanna know about it, come ON PC idiots.Get OVer it.They need more reality NOW.And thats the little girl from Poltergeist on one of the commercials is it not??
@Kevdogg3160 Isn't that funny? Cabbage Patch Preemies! Not only did they use the word "preemie," but they market dolls! I guess things were just different back then. I do think that increased sensitivity to birth defects, etc. is a good thing overall, though. I have scoliosis and I do NOT let people call me a hunchback. First, that's not the same thing, and second, it's just not cool. So I think exploiting premature babies and calling them "preemies" is similar.
I can't believe those fugly cabbage patch dolls were so popular (especially with the ridiculous themes - preemie babies? WTF). All the emphasis on having a doll that's like a real baby and people wonder why teen pregnancy is such an issue ... from a young age, you're telling girls that having a baby is a game!
I have to say that I got a soft spot for 80's commercials. I kind of feel like the have more feeling that stuff I see on the TV today. I want to go back to that era, like I did when I was 6 in 1989, but I seem to moove further and further away from it.
that Preemie cabage patch commercial is depressing. I still remember my mother being against that commercial. I don't agree with it either. thats just dispicable and uncalled for.
@BatNuklier oh bleh...how can you disagree with educating people about the facts of life (not the TV show...i know we're all in an 80s mood)? sesame street has an HIV muppet...same deal...the facts of the world around us can't be ignored, and those with so-called 'differences' are not different from anyone else. we have to educate kids about facts, teaching them that 'different' is normal--'different' isn't something freakish to be chased off like Frankenstein's monster o.0
@BatNuklier I agree. I think we should start a grassroots campaign to get in touch with Coleco, the manufacturer of Cabbage Patch Dolls, and get them to take the damn Preemmies out of production and circulation! We have to start holding these corporate mongrels to some kind of standards especially where children are involved.
Oh wait it's 2010 and Coleco has been out of business for decades. Never mind.
It's funny I remember a few of these commercials, but I had no idea that there was a Brooke Shields doll. I wonder if she got any of the roylties from that doll?
I still have my cabbage patch dolls too :) they had such weird names, 'Quintilla Dulcie' and 'Joyvita Naomi' haha :D I wonder who came up with those weird names for them, I had to ask my mum what the birth certificates said as I couldn't pronounce their names.
I had a nightmare when I was 3 about boo berry, franken berry, and count chocula marshmallows chasing me. So remember key cars. Got a Cabbage Patch preemie for Christmas when I was 7. Had one with a tooth too!!! Check out Seth Green at the beginning of the Burger King commercial!!
thank you for this it was amazing, and took me back to my childhood...sometimes I feel like im stuck in the 80s, but why not...it was the best and seeing things like this make me happy.
Does anyone remember the GAG news story about the Cabbage Patch Kid that was kidnapped? Supposedly, there was a photo of the "Kid" with a bag over his/her head and surrounded by the kidnappers. And the kidnappers threatened that if there were any tricks, that the kid would be "slaw" ?
@AndyMac1369 Not sure your age, but it sounds like you weren't around in the 80's. Trust me, you had to be there. After the 70's, it was like the sun coming out after 20 years of VietNam and the Cold War. Not trying to tick you off, just my opinions here....
@AndyMac1369 Fuck you. We had compuserve, the anarchist BBS, Nintendo, Atari, PC games and Apple games, and that poofy hair looked great IN the 80's. Guess since you werent there, you wouldnt understand, kid.
What a magical time!! Our imaginations ruled the world! Fanatsy was real, stress was temporary, I miss the 80s so much! I am 30 now like many of you and wish we could all go back there together and stay there!!!! These times are (fart noise)! Bring back the 80s, they went by too fast!
this year is only about sex, fight, skinny jeans, emo, abusing, bad toys, bad words, and other crap the 80's where the days awesome music, neon lights, partys, fun, and other
The 80's was a great decade..to bad they don't do cartoons and commercials like they use to....I feel for the kids today ....they are missing out on so much
@AmericanEvita I totally agree!! I miss the 80's so much, the cartoons, the toys, the summer vacations, the care-free days of childhood. When I remember those days now, it really was like a magical dream(the only problem was I took it for granted at the time but I guess that's part of what made it so wonderful, lol :) You don't know how much I wish I could go back in time and re-live that decade!! Best decade ever.
I was born in 1980, so all my earliest memories and my kid years are from the 80's. I love that decade so much! It was the best decade ever. You can tell how much the world has changed since then and in a sense, it was better then. In the 90's, I was already a teenage girl and loved the 90's as well. Nothing beats the 80's and 90's. I don't like the 70's (seems like a disgusting era to me) so I'm glad I hadn't been there then!
@AmericanEvita same here I was born in 81 and I remember the smurfs, jem and the holograms , all the good stuff, I wish people would stop making fun of OUR era!!
@amyntut I know. Our childhood in the 80's was awesome..it was like a wonderful dream that you didn't want to wake up from. I'm 30 now and I still remember the 80's with nostalgia and I think the 80's was the best decade ever. Wish it had lasted longer too because I felt it went by so fast.
@AmericanEvita I remember all the 80s, I was 6 in 1980, I still remember being in school after xmas holidays and writing in my little book 1980, it felt weird after write 1979 (the year I started school).
The 80s were the best of years. I agree that I wish they were longer. What a decade!
@carsonsmith Nice! I was born in 1974; I will never forget my childhood either. I think I spent more time in a video arcade then I would care too admit but, who didn't?
@PupuTheClown I'm sorry but from what I've "seen" in TV shows, movies, fashion magazines, etc; the 70's looked "ugly"- it was still a late 60's psychadelic type of culture, and never cared for Hanna Barbara cartoons or bell bottom pants or disco. Maybe it was fun for teens and adults; but kids of the 70's kinda looked bored to me. Disney movies/kids' movies were fewer then too. The 70's was an era "for adults". The 80's had something for everyone. I think 90's was too cynical.
not sure what your talking about these were much better times then all you ignorant degenerate people taht are growing up today i was a kid in the 1980s an it was much better you did not have men fucking men an getting married to them white women only running around with black men faggots getting married you did not have all this immigration problems an such an such as you do today an at last but not least there was no nwo back then like there is today people were much happier
@AmericanEvita . I agree with you, I remember being excited about waking up on Saturday to watch tv. All the shows then were more wholesome. Thinking about the 80's bring good memories that make me wish I could go back and stay there forever.
I grew up in the 80's and I'm so glad I did. I wore all the 80's clothes... yes, including the leg warmers and head band! It was a great decade to be a teenager in!
I'm so disturbed by the Cabbage Patch Kids commercials... so much obsession with training little girls to be mothers! Blah! I hated those dolls when I was a kid, they made me feel gross... think about it, her dad called her grandmother and said, "They just arrived!" Like, hello, your kid is like 4 years old. I thought we had a problem with teen mothers, but 4-year-olds?? Scary...
it proves you grow healthy by eating burger king.

When I remember those days now, it really was like a magical dream(the only problem was I took it for granted at the time but I guess that's part of what made it so wonderful, lol :) You don't know how much I wish I could go back in time and re-live that decade!! Best decade ever.

Brolyy07 1 year ago
I was born in 1980, so all my earliest memories and my kid years are from the 80's. I love that decade so much! It was the best decade ever. You can tell how much the world has changed since then and in a sense, it was better then. In the 90's, I was already a teenage girl and loved the 90's as well. Nothing beats the 80's and 90's. I don't like the 70's (seems like a disgusting era to me) so I'm glad I hadn't been there then!

@AmericanEvita same here I was born in 81 and I remember the smurfs, jem and the holograms , all the good stuff, I wish people would stop making fun of OUR era!!
amyntut 1 year ago
@amyntut I know. Our childhood in the 80's was awesome..it was like a wonderful dream that you didn't want to wake up from. I'm 30 now and I still remember the 80's with nostalgia and I think the 80's was the best decade ever. Wish it had lasted longer too because I felt it went by so fast.

@AmericanEvita I remember all the 80s, I was 6 in 1980, I still remember being in school after xmas holidays and writing in my little book 1980, it felt weird after write 1979 (the year I started school).
The 80s were the best of years. I agree that I wish they were longer. What a decade!

to bad you weren't born a little earlier, the 70s really ruled, the middle-late 80s were much more like the 90s.
PupuTheClown 1 year ago
@PupuTheClown I'm sorry but from what I've "seen" in TV shows, movies, fashion magazines, etc; the 70's looked "ugly"- it was still a late 60's psychadelic type of culture, and never cared for Hanna Barbara cartoons or bell bottom pants or disco. Maybe it was fun for teens and adults; but kids of the 70's kinda looked bored to me. Disney movies/kids' movies were fewer then too. The 70's was an era "for adults". The 80's had something for everyone. I think 90's was too cynical.

@AmericanEvita . I agree with you, I remember being excited about waking up on Saturday to watch tv. All the shows then were more wholesome. Thinking about the 80's bring good memories that make me wish I could go back and stay there forever.

Scary...
