  • Very good review. Great to see a father that loves God,family, and country! "Dont Tread on Me"

  • Thanks for the review, I'm getting one.

  • Just bought the T2 Plus and my 11 year old daughter set it up in about 15 minutes. This is a very well-designed tent. Definitely got it during the REI sale. Reg. $299, got it for $180 with the REI discount + sale price. (Great tent at ANY price to be sure). Glad I bought the "plus" model. An extra 5.5 sf makes a big difference with no extra weight. Looking forward to taking it on a shakedown weekend trip near Austin in November.

  • If you don't need it right away... be patient. I landed a Quaterdome T3 for $171. Make sure you use those REI member coupons on high dollar items like tents, packs and sleeping bags. I haven't used it yet but reviews on the quarterdome series are overwhelmingly positive. Big Agnes are on sale now. My other 3 man tent (Big Agnes Parkview 3) I scored for $127 and is, in my opinion, a 4 season tent. Be patient.. . the deals are out there you just have to find them.

  • I never understood why companies have Closeout and Discounted products that sell. I realize the new produces need to come in. Some things are renamed or constructed differently that may not be as good. I have a friend that would like me to buy his. Now that I seen the review I may. Love the views of nature. Thanks

  • The goat action @15:14 was a great part of this review. Thanks to Last suspect.

  • This just went on sale at REI for $220 and footprint for $22. I just barely bought one two weeks ago sans discount....grrrr....oh well, I will be taking the other back! Get 'em while ya can! Best tent for tall guys like me (6'5", 280 lbs).

  • nutn- have you ever heard of tarptents? theyre really awesome tents, mine take 90 seconds to put up, and could sleep 2

  • The regular (non-plus) version of this tent seems to be on close-out. Down to $199 and I got a one-item 25% coupon code in an email today, I think it was actually 30% since this item is on closeout - $140 later I have one on the way. (stoked!) I'm a short mofo (5' 7") so the regular should be fine.

  • Carrying a brush is a piece of genius. Why didn't I think of that?

  • Great video! The standard Quarter Dome T2 is on clearance now at REI for $200 which is an incredible deal for those interested. Slightly smaller than the model reviewed here but definitely worth it at that price. Just picked one up myself and was curious as to what you thought.

    Thank You!

  • @acnewman55 Do you know if REI is getting rid of the current generation for a new version; or are these just on sale?

  • Neve mind. I think I found it. "Where the air is thin"?

  • Hey what hiking adventure is this? I don't recognize it from other videos.

  • I just got the T2 on sale for $199.

  • Great vid nutnfancy, your videos are part of the reason I started making my own.

I had two questions about the REI Quarter Dome. Would you say the T2 would fit one person, (5'8", 180lbs), and a medium sized dog or would the T2+ be better?

My second question is would this tent be suitable for light to mild winters?

Thanks, keep up with the great work.

  • @CarolinaTrecker normal T2 should be fine for your size, but you better get one before the sale ends on REI.com on july 4. They are only $200 right now.

  • lol i love nutn's imitation of the mountain goat.... classic

  • Incredible and beautiful appearance by the mountain goat- great moment

  • Incredible and beautiful appearance by the mountain goat- great moment

  • First 4 min = ADD. Next 13 min = OCD. LMAO, wouldnt have it any other way! Keep it up Nutin!

  • gee... wild goats are gnarlly..

  • Haha oh man, forgot you reviewed this tent too. For a 3 season tent, which do you like better? Kelty Gunnison 2.1 or the REI Quarter Dome T2? I guess in 2010 they made the tent a little more complicated? Not sure if that would be a problem for me..kinda depends on the situation, wouldn't it?

  • Hey nutn, I was thinking about getting this tent for a while and love the reviews you do. I appreciate how in depth you go and really show all the aspects of the tent. Thank you. And now that REI members currently have a 20% off any 1 full price item coupon to burn, pretty sure I will be using it for this tent!

  • damn i wish it was summer! i just got this tent and its still raining in town and snowing a mile up the mountain from where i live. come on sun!

  • Hi Nutnfancy!

Thanks for another great video. They are very informative and inspiring. Great to see that father/son bond.

I have a couple questions about this tent.

    Is it drafty?

How do you think it holds up if you are above the treelevel? In windy condition.

Did you find out who makes them for REI?

Have you experienced any downsides as time has past?

    thanks

    Greetings from a Norwegian TNPer

  • I have heard complaints that it does not hold up to winds (collapses under wind). Any thoughts?

  • The T2+ (Plus) was a few inches larger to accommodate taller people. It's not offered anymore. I should have grabbed one when it was on sale.

  • so what's the difference between the Quarter Dome T2 and the T2+ (PLUS)? I can't find the PLUS version at REI's website.

  • Outstanding video & very helpful review. Said this befor but it is what it is, these videos real motivate me! TNP or Die!

  • would have been nice to have a 30-06 and a scope with you when you seen the goats

  • I just picked one up on craigslist, brand new with tags, along with a new pair Danner Combat Hikers for $75 total. Glad I did! Good review.

  • Great video. Just awesome.

  • what is the difference between the half dome and the quarter dome? thanks

  • @eddieyou1018 halfdome is bigger but weighs more and is cheaper if your not worrid about weight go with the half dome but if it is a concern go with the quarter dome but like nutnfancy always says mobility vs fire power

  • What a great Dad!! Thank you for leaving that father-son bonding moment in the video. It was *priceless*. You are a Man's Man.

  • where did you film this video? what a great mountain area.

  • excellent review

  • You Rock

i cant wait to get into bigger treks like this

  • This tent and a number of others are on sale at REI through Sept. 6th. This one's around 220 instead of 300...

  • @jazzyrick That's a nice sale! -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy I know...I had to pick up a T2 + before I posted it here to be sure I was actually able to get one...heh.

  • With REI's current sale, the Quarter Dome T2 is going for $199, and this T2 Plus for $219!!

  • @Hiluxtaco Great prices, thanks Hilluxtaco! -- Veri

  • Looks like a great tent; I love the construction and breathability. I was sold until I saw the price lol I think I'll stick with my Alps Zephyr 2 for the time being. I like the Kelty Gunnison, but not crazy about a white tent. Thanks for the review, keep up the good work.

  • Nutnfancy, I remember in another camping video you mentioned that you take a 10mm Glock with you just in case you run in a bad situation with a bear. Could you please tell me what type of ammo you use in 10mm for this purpose? Also it would be great if you did a video on ammo if that moves you.....Thanks for all of the video you have give me hours of viewing fun.....

  • wow i wish there were places like this in australia, ones that you can camp at for free and have a camp fire!

  • Another killer video. FYI however... if you had filmed this in your backyard, I still would have watched it!

  • I'm torn between the REI Quarter Dome T2 and the Kelty Gunnison 2.1. Does anybody have a reason to get one over the other?

  • Comment removed

  • I've had a MSR-tent (Hubba Hubba) for years now, and it has _all_ the 'special' features that this REI one has. And I agree that they are awesome features, making for fast pitching, light weight and dry stable shelter even in storm conditions. I mention this because MSR is easier to find in Europe, REI doesn't ship many items to Europe either (license issues). I do love the color though!

  • Nutn, you're like the Danny Tanner of the camp site, keeping everything clean. Haha, just kidding. Great review, I'm thinking about purchasing this for my birthday camping trip.

  • I have the regular REI Quarter Dome T2 that I purchased at an REI used gear sale. I have taken it on about 5 backpacking trips, 3 times with friends and 2 on solo treks. This tent has performed really well and I found this review to be very accurate. My Quarter Dome is a bit smaller but I found it to be the perfect option for solo or 2-person light trips. Its 3lbs 12oz, making it light enough for solo if you want extra space or a very light 2 person if you dont mind being cozy.

  • Sorry to be a pest but, in the Info there is a typo. it says "with the hike is steep and long" and i believe it is supposed to be When the hike is steep and long. thanks lol

  • @shredmanclapacs Not a pest at all! We rely on viewers like you to catch these little flubs and alert us to them. Thanks!! -- Veri

  • Totally awesome... absolutely love the father-son interaction as well as the views. Sometimes I could really care less about the review itself when you're doing one in such a beautiful place such as that.

Thanks again for bringing us along and inspiring us to do with our families. You rock bro!

  • nutnfancy you are a badass. im addicted to your videos and they are very helpful. thanks

  • Nice review, this looks like a good tent, me and my wife have been looking for a tent that is roomy but that we can backpack with.

  • I really enjoy your reviews but I also enjoy watching you and your family enjoy the outdoors. Last Suspect's expression of excitement about seeing the goat was priceless.

Thanks for the tent review. I've wondered about REI brand tents when it comes to quality.

  • Mountain goats! WOW! I wish there was somewhere that remote in England :( Also, ive found that you can use any tent in any climate or area comfortably, until you get to crazy snowy mountains etc, you just need to alter your actual sleep system, i.e. temp. factor of sleeping bag, clothes you actually sleep in etc and you will be okay. I personally use a medium season tent, in mild weather i sleep in long johns and thermal top, if it gets warmer lose the long johns, and if colder, add stuff, easy!

  • which series is this in

  • BEAUTIFUL scenery. I wish there were places like that near me.

  • Excellent Vid Nutn. Thanks. 6 stars.

  • I have this tent and I love it -- it's size and weight.

  • My son has this tent. He really likes how easy it is to set up, as well as, the space layout.

  • what do you think of the alps mountaineering catalyst/chaos 2?

  • Great Vid Nutn!!!

  • Love your vids man, makes me jones for the outdoors all week in the office, lol. Just wondering what your take on hammocks are? I've read some stuff on make the Hennessy tents 3.5-4 weather capable and with 300 lb capacity I could store myself and my ruck (or something softer, warmer and much more entertaining) in one. Would like to hear your thoughts or even, dare I ask, a review?!!

  • Nutnfancy, just want to say your video editing is fantastic. With the content AND video editing, I feel like I'm watching a pro.

  • Nut'n tearing up the summer with tons of great vids!

    Great review!

I tend to be weight conscious as well on extended trips, though I must say I like a bigger tent. I just like having that extra space, there are cons such as weight and warmth. But It's a trade off I'm willing to make.

I'll be adding a brush to my list of items on my next trip.

Hmmm, why didn't I ever think of that!

  • Man that was one of your greatest reviews; detailed and exiting!

I had the feeling the goat would walk into my living room

  • Thanks for the great review. The scenery and wildlife is always a welcome sight. Could you one time show how big the tent is when packed up in your bag, before construction? Thanks again for the hard work!

  • Not to be mundane Nutn, but another great vid. This is the type of review I am looking for in your gear reviews. I am a day hiker, but when my kids are a little older I want to expand my adventures to a few days and need reviews on what one would need on lets say a weekend hike adventure. I am gathering great informative opinions from your reviews and from Nutnfancy viewers. Keep Rockin Nutn and I'll keep a watchin.

  • Darn, that goat was shedding some fur!

  • Nutn, I have the older gen quarter dome tent & have loved it!. They have made many improvements thus the current T2+ tent that you're reviewing here. Larger size, clips instead of sleeves for the poles & overall better layout.

REI makes a great tent at a super competitive price point & if there is a guy out there tent shopping I would check out the REI line first.

    Thanks Brodog!

  • Goat,.. cute! :)

  • I like the fact that you are showing the sunscreen on your face. I was just up on Mt. Rainier, WA the other day at about 10,188 feet. Wasn't well covered and I got scorched. My face is now 3 shades darker than the rest of me.

  • how is the dog on all them rocks show with your boy hiking in?

  • Nice nutNN, and last suspect. Love the tent review and the nature (Goats)

Good eyes last suspect on the goat spotting

  • Thanks for the excellent review. I like the mountain goat guest appearance, too.

  • If I ever I have a child, I hope he's enthusiastic about the outdoors as your's.

  • One of your best videos, with wildlife yet to.

    Keep em coming.

  • Dude if only we could all have had a dad like you!... I love your work, your reviews and your video's.

    Your a inspiration.

    Cheers'

    Tony

  • @nutnfancy you sir, are a god send. thank you so very much for everything you do. keep up the outstanding and extremely entertaining vids, they are so very much appreciated by all of us who watch.

  • hey dude thanks for the review I asked about this tent a few weeks ago but held off as wasnt sure review made up my mind cheers

  • Great review.Awesome location. I've had the normal Quarter dome for 3years now and love it. I would prefer the green instead of orange and white though. Great to see that your making it possible for your son to get out there.

  • Great reviews nutnfancy! Found your videos recently - will take the tent into my considerations!

  • Lol, great goat action there. There are some very special memories for sure. Thanks for the tent review. I had been thinking of a few similar tents, including this one, if I ever get out of my slump and get back to backpacking. My old tent has long turned to dust. Besides, it was an old design, so kind of heavy, and kind of.....non vented, lol.

  • 850 m head shot on the mt goat and dinner is ready!!

  • Just recently started watching some of your vids from work here in the middle east. I've been prepping for some hunting and camping and now I'm checking into tents so I'm watching your reviews. Then, out of no where, I'm thinking of upgrading my G30 and of course, you have a video for that. Then you have ratings on ontario products..big fan of the machetes they make for treks through the bear country of the North Carolina East Coast.

Over all, awesome vid, and collection

  • nice goat shot, majestic.

  • thanks for this review. i need a 3 season tent and have thought about this one. I have an REI 4 season that i really like, buts its heavy... 10 lbs and its to dang hot in warm weather..

  • Nutnfancy you rock! Your reviews are top notch and love the fact that you "get out there" to do them. Thank you for your service! And your reviews of cool stuff..

  • Sorry, missed it - where can one get that cord? Thanks.

  • Nutn, you continue to deliver. Love 'em and keep 'em coming. The video's always give us two types of cool!

    Chuckles

  • Awesome review sir! spectacular place!

  • Nutnfancy does it again, I think I speak for most viewers and say thanks for all the great vids. Honest reviews and just darn enjoyable footage of the backcountry. I can prove to my wife that I am not the only gear super freak out there, lol. Could you do a review of sleeping bags, the other big chunk of the big three ? You have something really big going on here, keep up the great work !

  • Thanks so much for reading my comment and reviewing this tent! It's so cool to get an experienced opinion from a great outdoors man like you, Nutnfancy. You have made my decision about buying the REI Quarterdome. Thanks Again, Your Fan - Bayhike

  • I spent two nights in this exact model of tent one week ago. And although I know little about tents, I was thoroughly impressed. The extra length was a big plus for backpacks and what not. And the ability to both vent the outer shell and take it completely off was a huge plus for a particularly hot night.

My buddy researched the hell out of it before purchasing and I have to say he did a really good job. And now that Nutnfancy also approves, I'll have to get one for myself as well. Thanks.

  • Nutn, don't ever listen to the people telling you to make your videos shorter. Every extra minute is always entertaining, this video included.

  • Cool. Great review, Nutn! The goats were great too.

  • Always appreciate the in-field reviews. Great job again Nutn. I love REI.

  • Good stuff, thanks Nutn!

  • I am new to youtube and your vids which are great man! I gotta ask how you get all your gear dude! I have some of the same gear I have used for many years and it still going. Gear is expensive? I have heard in some of your other vids you get loaners? Anyway keep the vids coming and Ill keep watching them. Thanks

  • i am considering an alps mountaneering catalyst/chaos 2 and my only hesitation is the brand, is it comparable to a kelty/sierra designs? thanks

  • "Hey buddy! Hey Buddy!" LOL. Nice review, love yer videos Nutn.

  • I have this tent, and I love it.

  • Man your intros are so great, when I see god's majesty it brings a tear to the eye.

  • Thanks SO much for this review - I have been considering this tent for a while now and I think I'm sold. Man - last suspect is a lucky kid to have a father like you!

  • my god, you live my dream life man... good job and good luck with your adventures :)

  • BRO were are you camping its sick

  • Its a pleasure watching the environment and landscape around .. do half review and half landscape vids )

Do you think that Ventilations at the very top of the tent may solve the problem of exhaled moisture ???

An experienced guy told me that real Ripstop has "Little" squares in the fabric design, if you find ripstop having somewhat big (1/2 an inch ?) squares in its fabric design then it is Not Real Ripstop.

Hmm I may preffer bright and noticeable Colors in my tent ..just in case

  • Hey Nutnfancy I know you don't reveal too much when it comes to your personal information and I completely respect that. I do know that you have a lot of military experience and I was curious as to what branch of service if that's not too much to ask? I'm just guessing that with all of your survival training and experience you are in the Air Force?

  • @Spectre0160 You are correct, he is Air Force -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • Love the scenary and the review. Again another quality review.

  • only one person doesnt like this? looks like nutnfancy is winning his haters over! keep on doin your thing Nutn! you too Veri!

  • great trip-great views and review-love it

  • I like it. We run the older quarter / half dome 4 with the orange pole / clip design...it was cool I got to see you do a quarter dome review. :-) The four has got some room to manuver in and is good for extended stay or scavenger missions. The sealing and stitching is first rate in the REI stuff, and probably was a deciding factor for us. I got the footprint and extra fly for it, so I expect to see years of good camping from it. Thanks guys for reviewing my favorite. :-)

  • Dude! A Nutnfancy review that's under 18 minutes? It can't be!

Thanks for another great review. I really learn a lot from you.

Man, I really wanted to brush out that mountain goat!

  • .....and best of all,REI stands behind their products if ever dissatisfied.

  • Really enjoy the opening and the philosophy behind the tent. Not only is it just some shelter for overnight stay, but the ability it gives one to get out and experience an absolutely beautiful backcountry experience.

  • Your point about the tent color had me laughing. I was parking my car at Walmart today and next to me was this huge yellow Hummer. Talk about out of place, it had can't sell it cause I owe more that what it's worth all over it. That dude was not hustling because he was in a hurry but because he was the biggest loser and everyone knew it.

  • Good review nutn, I have an old REI half dome that I'm taking on a 56 mile, 12 day backpacking trip in New Mexico on Wednesday. REI definitely have some good tents as well as other supplies at their stores. I don't know if you've ever had to return anything to them also but if you ever have to do, it'll probably be the smoothest return you'll ever make. Great policies and great supplies, and of course great reviews by you always! Take it easy nutn.

  • Awesome review, of course we want to see that mountain goat! That was great. That closing photo of Allie on the trail is amazing.

  • Looks like a great tent.. My favorite part was lastsuspect getting pumped up about the goat... How Sweet is that!

  • @YourMilageMayVary Hahaha..love your YouTube handle! -- Veri

  • Thanks for the review, nutn! Excellent (and fun) as always. I almost bought this tent last week, but was just a little short on funds. I was actually on the fence with this one vs. the T3, but that extra packed size and weight of the T3... Still near the top of my shopping list, and now doubly so after seeing this vid. Thanks again!

  • i have the rei camp dome 2 tent... amazing! just as you reviewed here in this tent, ultra high quality.

  • Good song. Keep it up.

  • I would love to know where this kind of hiking scenery is? ..I would love to go see this beauty first hand!!!

  • Not to nitpick, but it's "ta' fet ta" not "ta fet' ta"

  • Nutn knows what kind of tents I dig. Good review, good looking product.

  • good video nutn veri and last suspect keep up the great work

  • rad tent! love the colors...Im also very sketched out by leaving base camp with all my gear in the tent. I would buy it today if it were under 200 bucks!!! thanks for the vid!!!

  • Good review nutn. Cool to see mountain goats.

  • beautiful campground man you can't get closer to nature than that.. awesome tent review!!

  • Excelent, excelent video... You Sir live the ultimate life, great review...has helped me out alot in my decisions for a tent, plus the added scenery and wildlife!! I envy you and your family for getting out and having all these great adventures. Keep on living the good life myh good man.

  • this video make me want to go camping

  • @Hissatsu5 Do it, man! I'd see that.

  • @DemonHide my neck of the woods is flooded right now

  • @Hissatsu5 Raft camping! Good idea, right? I'm so smart. Wonder why more people don't do that... *tries and drowns in sleep* LOL Yeah man, hope to see some camping vids from you when the place clears up.

  • @DemonHide i hope so too

  • Great vid Nutn! My three year old and I love to watch your adventures! He loves to go out in the woods with me and I can't wait until he's big enough to do some hiking!

  • MAN i love that intro song!!

  • hey friend i want only to tell you you roooock and every of your vids is soo great and well made.Thank you for sharing us your adventures and reviews.Everytime i watch them with pleasure.Really thank you.All the best and take care.

  • nice vid bud ,that tent looks cool although a bit pricey but hey you only get what you pay for ,awesome scenery nothing like that here in the uk keep up the good work and stay safe .

  • @bluejay693 Airforce officers make bank plus a real job.... easy money even more if hes been in for more then 20 years.

  • @bluejay693 we watch his videos= he gets paid.

  • @bluejay693 Thats a very rude question to ask! NOT COOL.

  • Considering he has thousands of dollars of gear I don't think it's such an inappropriate question to ask.

  • I think the REI half dome 2+ was voted best tent by outside mag. REI is doing it right. Was that an internal framepack that you were sporting? Another great vid. Thanks.

  • awesome !!! how long you were camping?

  • Hello Nutnfancy family

I was thinking about the "VAUDE" tents as the mark 2 light. My frind has a normal Mark 2 that we use like alot in the past.

    best wishes from germany

  • I wish we had true majestic places here in florida. Theres nothing more majestic than mountains.

  • What video series is this? Nutn, Suspect, and Allie? This isnt summer snow, this is a different tent, anyone know?

  • outdoor vids en masse in the last month... thats just AWSOME!

Thanks for all your effort and work!

  • Hey Nutn!!! Nice Goats?! Love your reviews... New to the TNP trying to catch up on your vids!!! But love em and thanks for keepin the BULL outta your reviews!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Epic kid.

  • Nutn with an INTERNAL frame pack...... say it aint so... Maken the baby jesus cry Nutn.... maken'em cry.

  • I just bought this tent last month. I havent had a chance to test it hard yet, but so far im very happy with it. I would recommend making your own footprint as the one made for it doesnt include an area for the vesti's. Also, have to thank you for your previous tent reviews/basics. I was pretty naive about tents, so i watched and took notes on that series and figured out what i needed for my purposes and it made me laugh inside when the REI guy said "you know alot about tents" thanks nutn!

  • good review. Cool seeing the goats! hah

  • How do the goats get on the cliffs like that?

  • @blt556 they fly of course......... no not realy.

  • Awesome stuff. Thanks.

  • if only you could have a backyard like that.

  • break out the mint jelly!!!

  • The goat was like, "Pfft, tourists..."
