@meinraphael Try reposting it sometime. I bet it sounds a lot better now. Make sure to add dynamics and to get into the music, even if u haver to play at a slower tempo
@RINGMASTER1118 ??!! ! - meinraphael - I love the clip thanks for posting! ?- it inspires me to ( almost ) get the rust off my vibes and see if I have not yet burnt all my mallets in the search for winter warmth. Great Stuff
@RINGMASTER1118 Hey man. I take back what I said. Don't repost the vid. This one is just fine. The very fact that u can even play this song proves ur an astonishing musician. I myself couldn't do any better. I let that top comment whatshisface get to me. Srry man. Keep up the good work
@RINGMASTER1118 ringmaster1118? more like hairy douche bag from asshole village, coming for a looksy at the normal world! this guy just made a video to put on youtube, and here's you -- a wanking bonobo -- making yourself look dumber than john seers on friday night, after a few drinks. give this guy a break! who cares if its not perfect?
i love playing mallets, its so much fun. but i just sometimes think to myself, whats the point of this instrument? you dont hear it that often and usually when you do its for a short period of time during an orchestra concert. and 90% of all vibraphone solo music sounds like some sort of stuff you'd hear in an elevator or something. i love the craft, but i just sometimes question the purpose of the instrument and its sounds.
@Balzagor Your written English is sad also, asshole. How about correcting yourself first before attacking others? "You're version"?"you're haircut"?"You're " is a conjugation of "you are", so in effect, you're saying "you are version" and "you are haircut" ,which makes no sense at all."Narcistic'?How about "narcissistic", douchewad "Onanisme"?What the fuck is that?No such word appears in the English dictionary.
@MrRetiredOfficer it's sort of annoying how you chose to banally point out balzagor's bad grammar instead of arguing the fact that this performance is stale. if you want to be all high and mighty about correct use of the english language you probably should have looked up onansime on the internet and realized that it's french and that the person you're correcting probably (maybe perhaps) has a different first language
This is horrible. Please stop raping bossa nova like that. Your rendition is an absolute disgrace to the original intentions of Jobim! Pretentious prat.
@flatliney0 Why this hard with him? It's his version and actually it's good. If you want to listen to bossa nova just listen to an other version and let people comment who like THIS kind of music and want to make serious comments please. And the nstop writing stuff like "pretentious prat", that just makes YOU seem very very dumb.
He's using Burton grip. Outside mallets are on top. Stevens-the grip is more like musser but with more independence. Standard cross grip-the outside mallets are on bottom.
mallets are mallets, guys. if he could play this shit with mallets in his teeth and toes i wouldn't care as long as it still came out sounding like this. :D
not gonna lie when you put on the sunglasses i was thinking of a word starting with d but was immediately mad at myself for thinking such a thing awesome job
@Pianist811 he's just using a stevens grip instead of a burton grip. Burton is what is used on vibes mostly(at least that what my instructor taught me) I'm guessing he used stevens because it's easier to control each individual mallet with that grip
@iLoVeSKYtimes2000 He's not using Stevens grip, if anything it's Burton. The end of your "inside" or numbers 2 and 3 mallets aren't visible while using Stevens because they rest in the center of your palm.
@Ultramega0 can't know everything ;) if you google those three instruments you get lots of lists of differences and things they have in common if you're further interested...
I have to say being a great percussionist is more difficult than being a great pianist. There's just so much things to take note of (grip, overlaping notes, controlling of the mallets and whatnot). This is really an amazing performance! Bravo!!
I'm not gonna lie - when I saw you walk up to the vibes and put the glasses on, my first thought was "another jackass." But you proved me wrong. Well done sir!
This is "Chega De Saudade" by Gary Burton.Performed immaculately on Ahmad Jamal's Live session album. You've done a truly fantastic work of transcribing it, almost note-by-note! Greetings from Sweden! Keep it up! :D
The loud notes overshadow any and all lesser notes as a vuvuzela overshadows anything other than itself, and it's very jarring. I hope not all Vibrophone music is like this, because if it is I can easily see why I haven't heard of it before...
@mburrier222 No, I just think for something where the high notes resonate both louder and longer than lower notes, that hearing almost nothing but high notes with a few low notes on occasion is a very jarring style of music which is uncommon and altogether not melodic nor pleasing to the ears.
Your speed is incredible, and you're definitely a virtuoso, but you play the vibes a bit too much like they're a drum. It's a tad robotic and harsh-looking. The vibraphone is a mellow instrument, and it seems like your playing needs to breathe a little bit. Other than that, though, it was exceptional.
My man you are the truth! I like the fact that even though your speed is off the charts it doesnt overpower the piece. Nice chord tensions and feel. And of course crazy dexterity! Keep shining.

You're a killer man ! You have one of the most beautiful technique I've ever seen on the Net. Except Gary ... LOL
OK, now the weakspots if you permit.
Primo, looks like you can't analyse harmonically what you play. And though YOU HAVE TO !
Secundo with this technique you have to pass from showing off to real music.
Make your own music ! These are Gary's notes damn ! You have to sing your own song !
That will be great ! I can't wait to listen to this ! Thanks Raphael. You sound good man !
