  • Comment removed

  • this is obviously fast-forwarded into a time of awesomeness

  • veveveveveveveveveveveevevevevevevevevevevevevev evevev

  • Terrific and beauty chega de saudade version, Thanks

  • @Balzagor haaaaahahahahahahahahaha you're really funny. He looks like a nice person who shares his awesome playing with us. Doesn't mean it's perfect. Don't comment with such stupid stuff please.

  • amazing

  • your tie is too short

  • thats insane independent work.

  • You practiced a lot but not enough. Next time you want to make a youtube vid for a song, practice as much as possible and make it perfect in every way

  • @RINGMASTER1118 thanks a lot for the advice!

  • @meinraphael Try reposting it sometime. I bet it sounds a lot better now. Make sure to add dynamics and to get into the music, even if u haver to play at a slower tempo

  • @RINGMASTER1118 ??!! ! - meinraphael - I love the clip thanks for posting! ?- it inspires me to ( almost ) get the rust off my vibes and see if I have not yet burnt all my mallets in the search for winter warmth. Great Stuff

  • @RINGMASTER1118 Hey man. I take back what I said. Don't repost the vid. This one is just fine. The very fact that u can even play this song proves ur an astonishing musician. I myself couldn't do any better. I let that top comment whatshisface get to me. Srry man. Keep up the good work

  • @RINGMASTER1118 ringmaster1118? more like hairy douche bag from asshole village, coming for a looksy at the normal world! this guy just made a video to put on youtube, and here's you -- a wanking bonobo -- making yourself look dumber than john seers on friday night, after a few drinks. give this guy a break! who cares if its not perfect?

  • @RINGMASTER1118 wanker......

  • i love how he puts on his shades before he starts

  • Okay so for drumline, I tried out for marimba and they put me on vibes instead. I was really upset at first, but this totally has me excited!

  • Crazy...

How long have you been working on this piece?

  • @ArtyGArt its more like a solo....hes probably repeating alot of things and making up melodies as he goes along....

  • so any1 mind telling me what the "real" version of this song is? cause i like the melody

  • Comment removed

  • @xXqazerXx No more blues (Jobim) ;]

  • Произведение одно из самых сложных на вибрафоне - и попытка сыграть его уже многое значит) Достаточно высокий уровень!))

  • Chega de saudade???? very nice!

  • That had to have been the coolest thing I've ever heard on vibraphone. That's so cool. Hopefully one day I'm as good as you.

  • @bryan770 Let me rephrase that.... The coolest solo I've ever heard on anything.

  • i love playing mallets, its so much fun. but i just sometimes think to myself, whats the point of this instrument? you dont hear it that often and usually when you do its for a short period of time during an orchestra concert. and 90% of all vibraphone solo music sounds like some sort of stuff you'd hear in an elevator or something. i love the craft, but i just sometimes question the purpose of the instrument and its sounds.

  • @Balzagor Your written English is sad also, asshole. How about correcting yourself first before attacking others? "You're version"?"you're haircut"?"You're " is a conjugation of "you are", so in effect, you're saying "you are version" and "you are haircut" ,which makes no sense at all."Narcistic'?How about "narcissistic", douchewad "Onanisme"?What the fuck is that?No such word appears in the English dictionary.

  • @MrRetiredOfficer it's sort of annoying how you chose to banally point out balzagor's bad grammar instead of arguing the fact that this performance is stale. if you want to be all high and mighty about correct use of the english language you probably should have looked up onansime on the internet and realized that it's french and that the person you're correcting probably (maybe perhaps) has a different first language

  • @iamsplatter why is it stale? In my eyes it is very good, just not perfect. I love listening to it and it is really far from stale.

  • Nothing to say but quoting Blazagor and flatliney0...

  • This is horrible. Please stop raping bossa nova like that. Your rendition is an absolute disgrace to the original intentions of Jobim! Pretentious prat.

  • @flatliney0 Why this hard with him? It's his version and actually it's good. If you want to listen to bossa nova just listen to an other version and let people comment who like THIS kind of music and want to make serious comments please. And the nstop writing stuff like "pretentious prat", that just makes YOU seem very very dumb.

  • He's using Burton grip. Outside mallets are on top. Stevens-the grip is more like musser but with more independence. Standard cross grip-the outside mallets are on bottom.

  • yeah!! who is your teacher??? greetings from italy

  • Dude... How did you transcribe this? Did you slow it down at all? How long did that take you!? That would take me forever.

  • mallets are mallets, guys. if he could play this shit with mallets in his teeth and toes i wouldn't care as long as it still came out sounding like this. :D

  • Wow... This is some SERIOUS music making! Congratulations from Brazil!

  • Very good!

  • Mr. Anderson....

  • not gonna lie when you put on the sunglasses i was thinking of a word starting with d but was immediately mad at myself for thinking such a thing awesome job

  • sounds like elevator music, but with much more swagger ;P

  • You are holding your mallets wrong, dude. . . But other than that, pretty good.

  • @Pianist811 unless he's using a different grip. :)

  • @Pianist811 he's just using a stevens grip instead of a burton grip. Burton is what is used on vibes mostly(at least that what my instructor taught me) I'm guessing he used stevens because it's easier to control each individual mallet with that grip

  • @iLoVeSKYtimes2000 He's not using Stevens grip, if anything it's Burton. The end of your "inside" or numbers 2 and 3 mallets aren't visible while using Stevens because they rest in the center of your palm.

  • @TheAutumnThieves Like i said...That's what my instructor taught me.

  • I want to cry because it's so good... If candy had a sound, it would be this.

  • i have the sheets for this piece..mail me so we can trade :)

  • Wow. Vibraphone awesomeness. I am impressed. This is the reason I got into listening to jazz, because of songs with this instrument. 8D

  • Oh man, the sunglasses really do make it as bad-ass as it is

  • amazing... truly.

  • Amazing playing!

    :D*

  • biasa wae..

  • awesome! :D

  • It seems like every vibist on youtube is really gooodddd, are vibes really hard to learn?

  • @FantomOfFear yes.

  • Who knew the agents in the Matrix were so cool in their off time?

    Awesome performance.

  • Lets put it on....what on? THE LAST SUIT YOU'LL EVER WEAR LMFAO!!! Nice one!

  • Great skill to have in your hands - I like Arthur Lyman Taboo Tu - would you do something around that - could be good - really cooled out.

  • wait.

    what just happened...?

  • All improv?

  • @xxcandiedapples No its a samba song by Tom Jobim called Alone at last.

  • @veroman34 Antonio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim to be exact ;o)

  • wow you are amazing

  • you make this look so easy. ugh.I wish i only had this kind of talent and skill

  • This is what Men in Black use when their neuralizers are on the fritz.

  • Raphael Meinhart, leader of the Vibraphone mob, evades police once again...

  • Awesome man! Some serious Sh**.

  • Isn't that a Marimba?

  • @Ultramega0 a marimba has wooden bars, he plays the vibraphone which has metal bars (and a sustain pedal)

  • @Danilela88 like a xilophone with sustain pedal?

  • @Ultramega0 well, a xylophone has wooden bars like the marimba, and the vibraphone has the metal bars

  • @Danilela88 Ok, i'm totally ignorant in this field.

  • @Ultramega0 can't know everything ;) if you google those three instruments you get lots of lists of differences and things they have in common if you're further interested...

  • He put on the sunglasses because his eyes cant stand that level of awesome.

  • I have to say being a great percussionist is more difficult than being a great pianist. There's just so much things to take note of (grip, overlaping notes, controlling of the mallets and whatnot). This is really an amazing performance! Bravo!!

  • I'm not gonna lie - when I saw you walk up to the vibes and put the glasses on, my first thought was "another jackass." But you proved me wrong. Well done sir!

  • This is "Chega De Saudade" by Gary Burton.Performed immaculately on Ahmad Jamal's Live session album. You've done a truly fantastic work of transcribing it, almost note-by-note! Greetings from Sweden! Keep it up! :D

  • Nice playing, man.

  • Nice playing.

  • The loud notes overshadow any and all lesser notes as a vuvuzela overshadows anything other than itself, and it's very jarring. I hope not all Vibrophone music is like this, because if it is I can easily see why I haven't heard of it before...

  • @Foxxie0kun Are you on crack?

  • @mburrier222 No, I just think for something where the high notes resonate both louder and longer than lower notes, that hearing almost nothing but high notes with a few low notes on occasion is a very jarring style of music which is uncommon and altogether not melodic nor pleasing to the ears.

  • Did you ever write the transcribed version down? I would LOVE a copy!

  • @Tymibaman sorry, I didn`t write it down.

  • I didn't know neo was so musically gifted

  • how the hell did you transcribe this?

  • You're a killer man ! You have one of the most beautiful technique I've ever seen on the Net. Except Gary ... LOL

OK, now the weakspots if you permit.

Primo, looks like you can't analyse harmonically what you play. And though YOU HAVE TO !

Secundo with this technique you have to pass from showing off to real music.

Make your own music ! These are Gary's notes damn ! You have to sing your own song !

That will be great ! I can't wait to listen to this ! Thanks Raphael. You sound good man !

  • Your speed is incredible, and you're definitely a virtuoso, but you play the vibes a bit too much like they're a drum. It's a tad robotic and harsh-looking. The vibraphone is a mellow instrument, and it seems like your playing needs to breathe a little bit. Other than that, though, it was exceptional.

  • @BurnTheMidnightLamp It sounds great. Post your own. We'll compare.

  • Ew this guy is gross. This is fucking amazing.

  • I don't know much about vibes. But I think this is good, very good.

  • Haha Chega de Saudade <3

  • amazing!!!! bravo

  • Wolderfull music, amazing musician!

  • Your speed is incredible to play that well. Keep up the great work.

  • the name of this piece?

  • it's transcribed by Errol Rackipov....

And you play that transcription. ;)

Or maybe he copied you... xD

  • wieso nennst du das video nicht so wie das stück heißt?

so brauch ich ja ewig, bis ich einen find, der das so gut spielt! ;-)

    respect!

  • No more blues uh ?

  • c c can i get the sheet music?

  • amazing.

  • My man you are the truth! I like the fact that even though your speed is off the charts it doesnt overpower the piece. Nice chord tensions and feel. And of course crazy dexterity! Keep shining.

  • Dang i gotta get me a suit and a pair of sunglasses to get those supervibraphonepowers.

  • whats up with the dracula outfit?

  • The music is CHEGA DE SAUDADE by Antonio Carlos Jobim (Tom Jobim) Lyric by Vinicius de Moraes , 2 monsters os MPB.

  • great. what else can you do...?

  • @rexoff ha

  • nice dude. ur really good at vibes.

  • Isso não é Chega de Saudade? :O

  • I guess you could say...(puts on sunglasses)...you really blue me away. YYYYEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHH

  • The piece is called _ NO MORE BLUE _

Love it by the way!! Really good preformed, and well talented!!!

  • no, it's called no more blues.. chega (no more) de saudade (bleus).....

  • You look like you're a member of the cast of Reservoir Dogs, AND you rock at the vibraphone. Good show. You got some mad right hand speed.

  • so good

  • Great performance man!!

  • dommage c'est trop rapide et on ne comprends rien : c'est moche

  • Flaco sos un aspero!!!

  • Wow Raphael,

    Very good man,

    Greetings from holland

    Johan

  • Yeah, that may be but this kid is young and very very good. Imagine when he has his own voice!!

  • to all who don`t know: this is a piece written by antonio jobim and originally recorded in this version by Gary Burton on his great soloalbum "alone at last".I transcribed it and recorded it just for fun!

  • @meinraphael to be exact: the tune is called Chega de Saudade (No More Blues) and has very nice "version" recorded by James Morrison on his Snappy Doo cd (1990), where he used i think 6 trombones (all played by himself as all other brass and wind stuff on this cd). have not found it on Utube though :o(

anyway GREAT playing Mr. Meinhart!!! (and I am still influenced by very recent Gary Burton concert ;o))

  • @meinraphael It IS by Jobim, but it's not Bossa Nova: it's a CHORO called Chega de Saudade. Check out the version by the great Jacob do Bandolim.

  • wow...this is sick!
