When fish's scales are pinecone-like, it's dropsy. Just remember that. I believe you can ask the pet store on how to treat it if any other of your fish get it.
yes it had dropsy but remember: dropsy itself is a symptom not a disease because my scuba had it (she was a goldfish her name was scuba) and i read up on it. it could be loads of things really
im sorry... those are pretty,, when theyre not half dead... i had an orange one that did the same thing.. its gils got all nasty like that.. and the next day he was dead.. i guess its like a stomach disease.. but theres really nothing you could do.. so i dont blame you.. :)
First seting up your tank you need to treat the water properly for chlorine and chloramines. Then let your tank filtration system run for at least several days to cycle through all the water without fish. Then when you introduce fish, you set the fish bag unopen in the tank. This helps the fish ajust to the tank water. Then after 10 minutes, open the bag and let some of the tank water in the fish bag and tie it back up and let it sit in the top of the tank for 10 more minutes. Then release them.
That's a koi. It needs a much larger tank. Rule of thumb for stocking fish is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water (including tail length). And you must also consider the length it matures to.
@TrueConservative123 No, it is a shubunkin. (koi have barbels, which look like whiskers). Koi cannot live in a tank, they must live in a pond of at least 500g per fish because they can become over 90cm in length. the 1 inch per gallon rule only applies to small schooling slim bodied fish such as neons. A five inch goldfish in a five gallon tank will not work, and neither will two ten inch fish work in a 20 gallon.
Never heard of dropsy but I guess now I know y he died.. I had him for about 3 yrs. I put that rock in the tank about 3 weeks b4 he died n I'm thinkin it had something to do with that.
the problem is, ppl buying things they thing it will be fine for the fish they have, just make sure you look after them like how you would look after your self, I have 10 mix goldfish, 2 sniles and 2 golden orfes, guess what, they all in 60L tank. I look after the tank every week, before I buy something I make sure I know who to buy from, and if I am buying 2nd hand things or rocks or what ever, I clean them with HOT HOT water and that will do the trick:)
@charlotte2004 Hey, why should you give up just because some fish are dying? Don't be a quitter! Get some other types of fish rather than goldfish! (NOT SUPPOSED TO BE AN OFFENSIVE COMMENT)
@charlotte2004 yea did you wash the stuff before you put it in the tank? you should always do that with anything you put in the tank, especially the gravel
That pinecone effect is a classic sign of dropsy. Dropsy is considered by many to be incurable. It's a bacterial infection that is related to poor water quality. That fish may be a shubunkin which is a variety of goldfish. Goldfish can live well over 30 years when cared for properly.
you 100% done something to poor fishy it couldn't die him self!!! don't mess with me in other ways i love fishy' s they mean more to me you better didn't tortured her before she dyed!
4 of my goldfish died!! they didn't have dropsy though. idk what's the cause. their fins were down a couple of days before they died. i'm sorry yours died.
oh poor guy, what size of the tank was he in? remember those goldfish require atleast 20 gallon for each fish, also common, comet is the same, 20 gallon each with filter and air sytem, for fancy goldfish liek oranda, ryukin and so on need atleast a 10 gallon. From what i see, that fish of your, I beleived have dropsy, the scales all sticked up. It happen due to poor and dirty water condition. it's attacked by bacteria deep inside.

Did he die in the end? He looked like he had a fair bit of life left in him - maybe just a bit of Swim Bladder Disorder.. which is curable.
