HandySolo did quite alright with this one, but i don't think it would have single-handedly kept the series going :D I also still like Faith of The Heart.
Sorry, that's good. But it doesn't fit or capture what the show as about. It works well as an opening, but not to this show. The theme grew on me the more I watched it, and the show turned out to be something very good that I really wish had kept going. An opening theme should really embody the show it's representing and as good as that song is, it doesn't work for Enterprise.
With ADR, It is an excellent piece for the opening titles. Along with Fanfare For the Common Man works well. I Bow to Thee My Country is a UK church and patriotic favorite. Sang it many mornings during chapel, attending a public school in the UK. StarRider8008 has a version with both. Have been working on a version with lyrics, as an attempt at creating an anthem for a world federal Democracy.
Why should the opening theme have been "Jupiter, the Bring of Jollity" from Holst's The Planets? Why should have any Star Trek used a piece of existing classical music?
If FOTH had never been used then you would have a case on using this one. But when you compare the two this is not a good choice. Nice piece of music but doesn't suit the spirit of the show.
Thanks for taking the time to create this! *ANYTHING* that replaces the official 'Yanni / Celine Dion / Enya-metal / even wussier music' theme song is a big improvement in my (not-so?) humble opinion; sounds like I'm being sold a timeshare to wussville, NOT getting in the mindset for Trek. I always do a Beavis & Buthead / MST3K voiceover if I can't fast forward through it. That said (typed) I'm not attempting to troll, just venting. All love to fellow Trek fans.
As much as I love Holst's "Planets", this just doesn't work. "Faith of the Heart" is really much more fitting. To me, that song is the best thing to come out of the series.
It is a theme from Gustav Holst called "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from his suite "The Planets" but I don't think it fits the opening of a Star Trek series. If you want to know my version of how it should have been, take a look to the first video response to this video.
This music is much nicer than the hillbilly ballad dirge they have on the serial. I heard that and stuffed the entire "enterprise" NX into the trash bin. Thank JJ Abrams for the Star Trek 11 movie - SAVED!
I think it fits WAAAAY better than what the show actually had that "i got faith" crapola gayass song. hate that theme!!! reason I never watched the show until last couple years on sci-fi channel out of boredom. now im friggin hooked! still hate the song.
title songs dont make good shows - especially when the networks show them on bad air-times. And as said by others - good song -but horrible fit for the show
Not that this entirely matters. But you do realise this song is actually British in origin. It was originally written by Sir Cecil Spring Rice. And composed by Gustav Holst.
It just does'nt suit the "All-American" theme of the opening footage.
this opening was all wrong anyway. All-American (or mostly), just like Roddenberry didn't want. Why show Alan Shepard instead of Yori Gagarin etc. etc.
The images of Alan Shepard are iconic and beautiful. Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space, and Alexei Leonov the first one in going EVA, but the images are B/W and crappy.
I was not complaining about the quality of the video. I was just answering mwcollins999 who wondered why they didn't used Yuri Gagarin or Leonov footage instead of Alan Sheppard's and I was pointing out that Alan Sheppard images are much more beautiful and iconic than the soviet ones so this is probably why they chose them despite he was not the first man in space nor the first man in doing EVA.
I have to say it---it nails the spirit of what Star trek was about--w/o special effects cheeseyness. A little diginity, and some humility too. Really gave me something to think on. nice
I like the Jupiter Symphony but unless the beginning of the theme stars with 'we have no idea what we're doing out here and we're idiots' then it wouldn't really fit Enterprise at all.
Very not Star Trek you must admit. I believe that the middle section of Jupiter that you procured was made to fit a poem called "I Vow To Thee My Country" and sung in church as a patriotic hymn. : (
Sorry but it's not better. Even Faith of the hear without the words is better than this lukewarm classical piece. And I did see every episode of every Star Trek (at least the film versions, not any animations). But your effort to do an alternative is commendable.
Much as I like Holst, I think the original music went better with the intro montage. But then, I haven't seen every episode of every series of star trek ever, so maybe my opinion doesn't count...
Not that Faith of the Heart is very "sta trecky" in the sense that the other theme songs are but it's a very nice song and this attempt of yours didn't go well with me at all.
This is much better than original theme. It was utter crap, nothing to do anything with Star Trek. More with cows and lambs being slaughtered at a texan farm...
It actually flowed clearly with that shows idea. That the world had been building up slowly to the first enterprise class ship (long road, getting from there to here) The montage alone is the reason that song works. You serious trekkers just don't like it because it has words in it that aren't the captain talking.
Some of this reminds me a bit of the TNG movies, and the music therein. Still a bit slow moving, needed to build up a bit faster and have a louder crescendo.
With this peace, the visuals just don't make as much sense. Now, if you wanted to comepletely REDO THE INTRO, with all new visuals AND music.. .that's a different story, but personally, I liked it just the way it was.
such an optimistic, idealistic & naïve view of humanity's exploration. the mirror universe is a helluva lot more accurate portrayal of how humanity really is. i wish it was really as peaceful & pleasant as this but unfortunately, knowing human nature as i'm forced to, one can take this & fertilize every garden in both the eastern seaboard & the west coast & have enough for half the midwest.
I doubt it....he would have had a whole new quadrant of alien women to seduce he would have made it last lol. Heck, he would have spent a whole series on the Ocampan home world for a start.
Well, this song has been used many times before so that makes it exempt from use as a star trek theme, think it's also a bit boring. Got the impression from the description that you had written your own music.
i liked the original intro very much. This one just doesn't go. I like the series two, the first twentyorso epidsodes, the temporal cold war. the xindi are rubbish. the last episodes in mirror universe are so cool, i wish for a whole season with that theme.
The shows theme was perfect for the series and the events that proceeded it, the problem was people hate change. They wanted the same music, same uniforms, same plot. If you go and try to be new and creative, people have a meltdown.
No it wasn't. Enterprise only lived up to its potential as a prequel in the 4th season. Lack of change is excatly what killed trek. TNG was essentially a continuation of TOS, and DS9 was the only real departure. Voyager and Enterprise were essentially TOS with less charismatic casts.
The problem is that instead of exploring other areas of the trek universe (dare I say going where we've never gone), people just keep trying to redo kirk.
...about the description, i'm 99% certain that even if the show did have a better opening theme than it did (Not that this is) it still would have went off the air because the writers kind of backed themselves into a corner with the plot. Look at stargate atlantis, it had a kick ass opening theme, but it still went off the air pretty quick.
5 years isn't exactly quick. They've got two Atlantis movies planned (one in production IIRC) and they also had to make room in the studio & budget for the 3rd Stargate series starting either this fall or in early '10.
Faith of the Heart was supposed to give us the feeling that the dawn of the Federation wasn't all that far in the future. They were more like us than the "perfect" time of the other series.
This is the chorale from Gustav Holst the Planets.....Jupiter.......I love the original.....Faith of the Heart.........this music is just wrong, wrong, wrong....
I thought that "Faith of the Heart" did just fine as the Star Trek: Enterprise Intro. And I personally don't think that it was the opening song that caused the series to go out of production.
maybe you and your buddy should lay of the crack pipe for awhile. This song made me want to slit my wrist in the bathtub with a picture of marina sirtis gently place over my crotch area. This song suck donkey penis, and if this was the "theme" song, it wouldn't have lasted past season 2
personally I think the original theme was just fine. It is nice music, but in the in end I think Enterprise went just nicely with the theme of the entire show. Maybe from a musical standpoint it would have been more in line with the older versions but I think that was something they were trying to avoid.
The only downside to the intro, is it only shows American Space development. Where's Sputnik? Where's Gagarin? Where's Laika? Where's Valentina Tereshkova? Or Hillary 'Knocking that bastard off'.
Would've been nice if they showed the 'Setbacks' too, like the Oxygen explosion in one of the Apollos, or the Challenger. The things that humans overcome.
This couldn't be any worse of a replacement for "faith of the heart" if you used a mouth harp. that is how far off base ashenfield is on this subject.
ok so maybe star trek enterprise should have had a classical theme tune but definatly not this song it reminds me of something old like songs of praise lol... faith of the heart was great but maybe somthing else would have worked really well too.
I have to agree. The original theme music fit what the series was originally about - the beginning of human exploration beyond our own Solar system,; this piece of music, while beautiful, more fits the mood of celebrations - it would have fit better for the series' finale, when the UFP was being established, as witnessed by Riker and Deanna.
how does it? it doesent sync up to the intros video at all... and it gives the feeling that Enterprise is all about the past and is stagnant. when in fact its the first step of mankind into deep space.. and is a a exciting happy time..
I didn't say it was a good theme choice. I said that it was better than the original. Besides, if you know anything about classical music, you should recognize the theme from Jupiter, which is what this is. So how then is the Planets Suite not about mankind reaching into space?
The entire show goes against canon. But that's not why I don't like the song. It's just a bad song. Of course, it was a terrible show, so maybe you're right. Terrible theme to start off a disgusting TV show that was lucky to last the three seasons that it did. Although I will remain grateful to Enterprise for one thing; because it was so painful to watch, I became a Stargate fan. Now there's a show with good music.
Yeah, who said that? I have never heard anyone say anything remotely like that. Ever. And let me guess, you were introduced to Trek via Enterprise. What do you think of TNG? Voyager? How about DS9? If those aren't "Star Trek", then what are they?
And yes, sorry, four seasons. But cancellation three seasons before the contract expiration isn't exactly flattering. Even the original series was only canceled two seasons early.
i do lol at how much you care. did you cry when Data died?
you want Picard to be UFP President dont you.
lemme guess at night, you dream of a threeway between You Dr Crusher and Commander Riker...
haha. just watch the programmes and stop complaining you pathetic little creature..
this song is shit... the proper one is well suited stop complaining about music cos basically Enterprise doesent match up to the other shows which were far inferior.
I find it hard to respect someone who cannot debate without swearing or making sexual references. I don't really like this song choice. Neither do you, though it is abundantly clear that there isn't much that is wholesome that you do like. So you can go ahead and throw as many "insults" as you wish at me, secure in the knowledge that someone with as little imagination as yourself can only speak from personal experience.
"The music is shit.. you dont like it cos ur a loser who likes TNG"
... Or perhaps it's just you who has trouble finding that others just don't share your opinions. Granted, TNG is not very good, and neither is TOS or Voyager, and DS9 is the best - but those are my own opinions, and I know that everyone has different opinions and favourite series.
Perhaps you'd be better off joining the Borg, and being just another mindless drone of the Collective?
Stop stop. What you doing? Does it really matter? A quick reminder, Faith Of The Heart is spit in your mothers face bad. I'd use a different word, but there might be children reading. You don't have to give reasons why this song would'nt be used geek, this song is shit, amd Faith of the Heart is even more shit, and it was approve by previously cool people. But Star Trek's not cool, it's Dallas with anttenas. Saying that again I was mass Star Trek fan and Deep Space 9 shaky on early Voyager etal
so u just play a well know peice of clasical music and thnk thats ok?!
1 they woudnt get permission to use this! and second whats wrong with the orignal theme they had- it was great, then they remixed it and it was even better. but sad people like you feel "no orchestral music= bad show"
besides it wasnt the theme tune that ended the show, it was the lack of viewerse and people dont watch a show just for 2 mins of credit opernings!
I dont know whether thats supposed to be a comeback or what? saying i really think im smart just because i know a little about copywrite law???? and i couldnt care less about star trek or this opening i just stumbled across it and saw your comment based on whatever information is held on a kleenex or your bedroom wall.....and why are you just sitting there laughing to yourself come on surely you can do better....next time try harder F- :D
just because you call something stupid it doesn't make it so....and this constant laughing at something that isn't meant to be funny reminds me of a 5yr old that doesn't actually have anything to say so falls back on repeatedly saying 'haha very funny'....really i don't know why im bothering as i can answer me for you.....cornflakemad: lol im still laughing omg lol u fink im fik coz i cant spel wel that makes me laugh so much lol thankyou
lol ur obiously a bit weird considering you have to prove yourself right and argue till the end. lol im just cruising around youtube- yeh i leave a comment (ok it is a bit strong) but u reply with all this.
oh by the way your "stupid 5yr old" is 20. i obtaioned 6A* at gcse in seciences maths, geography and histroy. then obtained 3As at a level, in sciences. now im doing well in medical school. im dislexic so i have troble spelling
not so much a matter of proving myself right more a matter of im not dyslexic, it takes me about 5 seconds to type these replies and your original comment was so flawed along with the rest of you comments and i abhor stupidity especially when its backed up with the tone of arrogance displayed in your original comment. I found it a worthy minute spent allowing you to further prove that you don't have one iota of intellect and the fact you're going to be a doctor (if that's true) just scares me.
it´s a nice melody, but i feel it doesn´t work too well with the visuals. both together seem too slow-paced. the music is more soothing and stately, not exciting enough. i like the ENT intro as it is, because it underlines the pioneer spirit the show wants to give us.
this song would be better suited as a communist nations national anthem

5 years isn't exactly quick. They've got two Atlantis movies planned (one in production IIRC) and they also had to make room in the studio & budget for the 3rd Stargate series starting either this fall or in early '10.

sorry, this song doesn't do it. maybe for a documentary on the later 19th century, but not star trek
goYankees19 2 years ago 3
Nope, the theme song is perfect for Enterprise and for Star Trek in general.

Are you truly stuck up enough to believe that if the producers had your taste in music; it would have totally altered the course of a series?

pike666db 2 years ago 4
Faith of the Heart was supposed to give us the feeling that the dawn of the Federation wasn't all that far in the future. They were more like us than the "perfect" time of the other series.

I would say this song SUCKS GOAT BALLS, but I can't because I don't know because it put me to SLEEP!

serpentasgard 3 years ago
isnt enterprise the only star trek with a theme song that has lyrics?
laladiel 3 years ago
Nice. 'Jupiter' is my favorite movement in Gustav Holst's "Planets Suite".
Dunbahl 3 years ago
I thought that "Faith of the Heart" did just fine as the Star Trek: Enterprise Intro. And I personally don't think that it was the opening song that caused the series to go out of production.
Windrunner765 3 years ago
This music didn't match at all. But the original wasn't any better. Gene would have gone nuts over what they did to his creation.

maybe you and your buddy should lay of the crack pipe for awhile. This song made me want to slit my wrist in the bathtub with a picture of marina sirtis gently place over my crotch area. This song suck donkey penis, and if this was the "theme" song, it wouldn't have lasted past season 2
justinheranus 3 years ago
no it wouldnt work thou the alternate reality soundtrack was better thou.lol

i have to disagree i think the 1 they use now is perfect i love that song and it matchs great!!
luvdove1 3 years ago
The music is bland and not exciting at all...NOT fitting for ST Enterprise.
smoothpoppa2007 3 years ago
personally I think the original theme was just fine. It is nice music, but in the in end I think Enterprise went just nicely with the theme of the entire show. Maybe from a musical standpoint it would have been more in line with the older versions but I think that was something they were trying to avoid.

It's ok, but better than the original

The only downside to the intro, is it only shows American Space development. Where's Sputnik? Where's Gagarin? Where's Laika? Where's Valentina Tereshkova? Or Hillary 'Knocking that bastard off'.
Would've been nice if they showed the 'Setbacks' too, like the Oxygen explosion in one of the Apollos, or the Challenger. The things that humans overcome.
WTR1982 3 years ago 3
Nice music, but I don't really get what's wrong with 'Faith of the Heart'. Why does trek *always* have to be orchestra (or otherwise wordless) music?
I wonder if the same sort of people who whinged about 'Faith of the heart' had a good grizzle about the lack of Tom Bombadil in Lord of the Rings.
WTR1982 3 years ago
This just reminds everyone of Dulux Paint... cos of that ad.
this is well rubbish. i think only fanboys would like this music..
eventhorizonx 3 years ago 3
If the theme song had anything to do with the success of the serie then with this theme it wouldnt even last one season.
Ronnet 3 years ago 4
This couldn't be any worse of a replacement for "faith of the heart" if you used a mouth harp. that is how far off base ashenfield is on this subject.
InvaderCee13 3 years ago 3
ok so maybe star trek enterprise should have had a classical theme tune but definatly not this song it reminds me of something old like songs of praise lol... faith of the heart was great but maybe somthing else would have worked really well too.
ThisIsBabyKane 3 years ago
I have to agree. The original theme music fit what the series was originally about - the beginning of human exploration beyond our own Solar system,; this piece of music, while beautiful, more fits the mood of celebrations - it would have fit better for the series' finale, when the UFP was being established, as witnessed by Riker and Deanna.
gribae 3 years ago 2
it does suite it because it form a play called "the planets"
Shuvza 3 years ago
The original theme was very well suited and said it all really. This alternate one is in my opinion a very bad choice.
EllieJane63 3 years ago
Church music? Really?
There are a number of themes that might have worked as well as or better than "FotH", but I strongly do not agree that this is one of them.

eventhorizonx 3 years ago
Maybe, but it still owns the original.
Gorthaur42 3 years ago
haha. good one.. lol.
how does it? it doesent sync up to the intros video at all... and it gives the feeling that Enterprise is all about the past and is stagnant. when in fact its the first step of mankind into deep space.. and is a a exciting happy time..
eventhorizonx 3 years ago
I didn't say it was a good theme choice. I said that it was better than the original. Besides, if you know anything about classical music, you should recognize the theme from Jupiter, which is what this is. So how then is the Planets Suite not about mankind reaching into space?
Gorthaur42 3 years ago
I know what it is. its just shit tho.. the original is much better.. your just sad cos it wasn't matching up with your precious 'canon'
eventhorizonx 3 years ago
The entire show goes against canon. But that's not why I don't like the song. It's just a bad song. Of course, it was a terrible show, so maybe you're right. Terrible theme to start off a disgusting TV show that was lucky to last the three seasons that it did. Although I will remain grateful to Enterprise for one thing; because it was so painful to watch, I became a Stargate fan. Now there's a show with good music.
Gorthaur42 3 years ago
Enterprise lasted four seasons.
Its actually been stated that Enterprise is canon and the rest of the Star Trek shows are non-canon now..
eventhorizonx 3 years ago
Yeah, who said that? I have never heard anyone say anything remotely like that. Ever. And let me guess, you were introduced to Trek via Enterprise. What do you think of TNG? Voyager? How about DS9? If those aren't "Star Trek", then what are they?
And yes, sorry, four seasons. But cancellation three seasons before the contract expiration isn't exactly flattering. Even the original series was only canceled two seasons early.
Gorthaur42 3 years ago
lol. been watching Star Trek for years.
i do lol at how much you care. did you cry when Data died?
you want Picard to be UFP President dont you.
lemme guess at night, you dream of a threeway between You Dr Crusher and Commander Riker...
haha. just watch the programmes and stop complaining you pathetic little creature..
this song is shit... the proper one is well suited stop complaining about music cos basically Enterprise doesent match up to the other shows which were far inferior.
eventhorizonx 3 years ago
I find it hard to respect someone who cannot debate without swearing or making sexual references. I don't really like this song choice. Neither do you, though it is abundantly clear that there isn't much that is wholesome that you do like. So you can go ahead and throw as many "insults" as you wish at me, secure in the knowledge that someone with as little imagination as yourself can only speak from personal experience.
Gorthaur42 3 years ago 2
ur not supposed to respect me..
and sexual references? those?
are you still 15?
WTF? how does anyone NOT speak from Personal Experience..
what does imagination have to do with anything? The music is shit.. you dont like it cos ur a loser who likes TNG
eventhorizonx 3 years ago
Ah, so you admit that the threeway dream was one you actually had. So good of you. And you want Picard for UFP president? How terribly geeky of you.
Next time I would recommend actually understanding how you were being insulted before you make a fool of yourself.
Gorthaur42 3 years ago

1 they woudnt get permission to use this! and second whats wrong with the orignal theme they had- it was great, then they remixed it and it was even better. but sad people like you feel "no orchestral music= bad show"
besides it wasnt the theme tune that ended the show, it was the lack of viewerse and people dont watch a show just for 2 mins of credit opernings!
cornflakemad 4 years ago
i think you'll find they will get permission to use this as its old enough to be exempt from copy write law dip shit
pepsickle 3 years ago
lol omg u made me laugh. u realy think ur smart dont you! lol
and u know what else meade me laugh how rubish this new idea for an operning is. lol
cornflakemad 3 years ago
I dont know whether thats supposed to be a comeback or what? saying i really think im smart just because i know a little about copywrite law???? and i couldnt care less about star trek or this opening i just stumbled across it and saw your comment based on whatever information is held on a kleenex or your bedroom wall.....and why are you just sitting there laughing to yourself come on surely you can do better....next time try harder F- :D
pepsickle 3 years ago
Oh yeah and FYI (i only used FYI seen as you were using geek speak LOL) Opening doesn't have an R in it :D
pepsickle 3 years ago
lol so spelling mistakes and the word "omg" counts as geek speak for you? lol that is funny.
wow ur stupid combacks have realy made me laugh today. thankyou
cornflakemad 3 years ago
just because you call something stupid it doesn't make it so....and this constant laughing at something that isn't meant to be funny reminds me of a 5yr old that doesn't actually have anything to say so falls back on repeatedly saying 'haha very funny'....really i don't know why im bothering as i can answer me for you.....cornflakemad: lol im still laughing omg lol u fink im fik coz i cant spel wel that makes me laugh so much lol thankyou
pepsickle 3 years ago
lol ur obiously a bit weird considering you have to prove yourself right and argue till the end. lol im just cruising around youtube- yeh i leave a comment (ok it is a bit strong) but u reply with all this.
oh by the way your "stupid 5yr old" is 20. i obtaioned 6A* at gcse in seciences maths, geography and histroy. then obtained 3As at a level, in sciences. now im doing well in medical school. im dislexic so i have troble spelling
cornflakemad 3 years ago
not so much a matter of proving myself right more a matter of im not dyslexic, it takes me about 5 seconds to type these replies and your original comment was so flawed along with the rest of you comments and i abhor stupidity especially when its backed up with the tone of arrogance displayed in your original comment. I found it a worthy minute spent allowing you to further prove that you don't have one iota of intellect and the fact you're going to be a doctor (if that's true) just scares me.
pepsickle 3 years ago
it´s a nice melody, but i feel it doesn´t work too well with the visuals. both together seem too slow-paced. the music is more soothing and stately, not exciting enough. i like the ENT intro as it is, because it underlines the pioneer spirit the show wants to give us.
FirstLifeFan 4 years ago 2
The openning song also could have been better if they had had it made for them like they did the others.
