They not stoole the song. They been doing a cover record, because the members of the Beach Boys is huge fans of Chuck Berry, and so is the members of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Let It Rock :)
Chuck Berry is a fav of mine and of The Beach Boys too !!! Chuck Berry was a great song-writer. Songwriters WANT people to 'cover' their songs. They WHY they write. They get PAID for it ! LOL Nothing was stolen. chcuck got paid abd it was also a compliment to Chuck
@BeachBoysGuy1 They actually did steal it because if you check they didn't credit Chuck Berry and he was not aware that they did a song that used his music so therefore they stole it. And it cannot be said as being a cover of Chuck Berry's song because they actually released it as their own. NO WHERE WAS CHUCK BERRY CREDITED !
@sonny45badman I have the LP " 15 Big Ones" released by The Beach Boys in 1976 right in front of me, and guess what ? ....the credit says " Chuck Berry". . Maybe you are thinking of 'Surfin' USA' ??? Beacause Surfin' USA was actually 'Sweet Little 16' melody with different words, and they eventually settled with Chuck and all subsequent pressings give Chuck Berry credit.
This turned out to be the Beach Boys biggest hit of the '70s at #5 (And even though on of the tags says 60's in the window, this song is actually from 1976).
the Beatles version is best without doubt...but the Beachboys beat them on harmonies hands down. Chuck Berry loved both versions...his own the best of course.
You have a great name! I just think the way the Beach Boys slapped their standard three part backing vocals onto this is rather too formulaic and "spoils the beauty of the melody, until it sounded like a symphony"
Watching this right now is the first timed in about 30 years I've heard this version of this song. I couldn't even hear it on oldies stations, but back in the 70's I heard it all the time. Thank God for youtube and the internet!
i went straight from Motörhead to the Beach Boys and they both ROCK!!

@sonny45badman The melody and chord structure are very similar, but Chuck didn't write surfin' lyrics. Anyway i love Chuck and i love Brian too

I'm a Beach Boys fan, but the Beatles' version of this blows them right out of the water!

Of course, as John Lennon would have been the first to admit! Still, the way Ringo leads them into the last verse is a thing of beauty.

Guys, the Beach Boys, the Beatles, and Chuck are all unique and interpret this groovy number each in their own way.
