@jonsutubechannel no you can't! this is one thing i have to say is the definite downside to apple monitors. or at-least the cinema display. you have to use your macbooks button. if your like me and you want to use your macbook as a desktop this really isnt that great. hope this helped :) -Jess

It's hard to take this seriously when you don't know the basics of how to mirror and extend desktops displays, hook up the power cord backwards on the laptop blocking the other ports and so on. That being said the monitor is very nice. Just hate that 10k people had to bear through this to make a decision.

@tofslie dude this video was made over a year ago. i was new to using a mac and a display with a mini display port. the reason i had the mag safe backwards was because the cover i had on there (speck see-thru) wouldn't allow me to plug it in the proper way. im pretty sure i even said that. when mirroring the image on the cinema display it is distorted even on the highest resolution. i know that because its evident. i appreciate your input but negative input should be more valid with less hate.

Just get the older power adaper and you will be fine it goes straight into the computers magnet instead of it going to the side.. its good to have both i think!

If you power up the Macbook the Display powers up automatically. There are no buttons on the Cinema Display.

And yeah of course you have to open the macbook to switch the power button. Like on most Laptops. -_-

simply not true...you obviously have not used a MBP with with an external monitor and the MBP closed. it will turn on when you attach the mini display port or event the USB is designed to trigger an "on"....

Just so you know you litte shit.. some facts.. Apple uses the same Processor, Chipset, Video Card, Memory, Hard Drives as PC's do.. That is why you can install Retail OSX on a PC.. the benefits? u can build a $1000(CAD) and it'll outperform the fastest iMac which retails $2,099.00(CAD).. So If you think Apple uses "Premium hardware" your an idiot.. iMacs/Macbooks are fucking overpriced.. I will admit the displays are good, but you could get the same quality display for half as much.

I have this display on my Macbook Pro. I also have a Speck on the Macbook Pro, and the magsafe is the normal way, not blocking the ports. It looks like your speck adds more bulk than mine. Strange....

Its a displayport monitor, which is not proprietary and will work on PCs, but you will need a new graphics card (or adapter if your cheap)

It's true! But since my dads paying for the rest of my Mbp and I had to buy anything else $899 is alot cheaper then $1699. Plus the mbp has the same specs as the iMac other then the higher processor. And I am a student so I can take my mbp with me and when I get home it becomes my desktop :P
