  • i think he used a plane engine because they can run at full throttle for long periods of time without breaking

  • im pretty sure hes usin a nitro rc engine

  • omg it sounds like a nitro car

  • c'est cool, reste plus qu'a mettre un carrenage autour et la vrai loco diesel est faite.

    Bravo

  • It really works ! Nice to see somthing like that!

  • Nice!

I use the same trusty panda remote!

  • The generator used in this project was a simple '850' type 12v DC motor with only 3 poles (from Selectronic). This is used as a starter too. An alternator system is much more efficient but requires an extra maens of starting.

I have now obtained a smooth multi pole 24v 120w DC motor used in electric scooters. On a bench test this is much more efficient than the current.

  • Absolutely cracking, mate! If that doesn't make the neighbours sell up then nothing will! I still say I want one...

  • if its a generator the add a 12v cooling fan to the engine so it can cool it off cause is will never last long if the engine overheats too much.

  • Thank-you for your comment but the engine doesn't actually overheat. Please visit my website for more details and information.

  • You said you would consider a alternator, instead of a generator.. Would you also consider a four-stroke engine? (more silent and smooth) And how did you obtain the electro-motor that you used as a generator? Greetings!

  • Thanks for your comments.

For a future project I will look at a 4 st glo plug engine and maybe too a 2 st petrol engine strimmer type.

There are many factors to consider including size and cost!

The glo plug engine I used cost 35€ new on e bay!

  • I agree on that one... But I'm thinking of a similar project too. And I'm thinking of a four-stroke.. (or maybe even a steam-electric loco, with a fast running uniflow.. But don't know about that yet.) Would a heavier flywheel add more smoothness, you think?
