  • Hi,,Im looking for a tune from early 80s. It was on during the school summer hols as an interlude..Think it was called Come with me but seem to remember the words Life is a book such a beautiful book....and the film was aerial views of the countryside and buildings etc..Hope you can help..

  • breakfast time had a theme?!

  • My father played on the theme tune to Newsnight, .. he played trumpet, he was a member of the BBC light orchestra. He would often come home covered in bruises where he had been beaten by the conductor for forgetting his lines. Once he was forced to strip naked in front of the whole orchestra for messing up his part.

  • I love theme tunes, thanks for the memories, love question of sport and new tricks.

  • Comment removed

  • The version of "Somebody Help Me" used as the theme for "The Royal" was performed by Micheal Starke, who was in the show (and, you may remember, played Sinbad in Brookside)

  • I wish somebody could tell me what tv programme the theme on my ' What IS The Mystery Theme ' video is from.

I'd be very grateful if someone could remind me ( memory ain't what it was, LOL ).

  • WHY DO YOU HAVE THE NEW SHIT SNOOKER THEME ?THE OLD ONE WAS THE BEST.

  • @ashleys5093 Agreed. The original version of Drag Racer is far superior.

  • A Question Of Sport! :D

  • these are great

  • fuck sake bring back grandstand saturday tv is empty without it

  • this is a great post. thanks

  • Instrumental version of AYBS watch?v=GB0F74zpqZk

  • Does anybody have a copy of the A Question of sport theme?

  • John, any chance of any of these: Fireman Sam, Hadleigh, Black Beauty, Follyfoot, Never mind the Quality feel the Width ... just love what you have posted and have listened to them all, great, thanks mate.

  • Thanks so much for posting these, absolutely brill!!!

  • what is the Question of Sport theme tune called?

  • great post Jon ..Ta !!!!!!!

  • Did anyone know that the Eastenders theme started life as a hymn tune: "Glory Be To God On High"?! Found the sheet music YEARS ago whilst on holiday in the Southwest.

  • @ziggydamaestro Eastenders started in 1985. the setting of Glory Be was not written 'til 1988 by simon may specially commissioned for songs of praise

  • Always thought it was sacrilege that a live music programme such as Songs Of Praise would ever use such a a synthetic arrangement of its theme!

  • Professionals. The best

  • Does anyone know if the theme music of the P.D. James Inspector Dalgliesh series is on Utube? It's so beautiful. I know it's written by Richard Harvey.

  • @thiaanthony

I think I remember that! Would love a copy!

Also, does anyone remember the theme to "Drummonds"? A weekend ITV drama set in a boys' boarding school? Beautiful piano!

  • does anybody know the name of the tune they used for the royal

  • perryacp, It's called "Somebody Help Me" by the Spencer Davis Group.

  • @johnmartin1097 It's not the original recording, and the singer doesn't sound like Steve WInwood.

  • bbc news at 10 "post apocalyptic rave" as bill bailey would have put it

  • and where did you find or record it?

  • The Songs Of Praise theme always lifts my spirits up.

  • nice one, brought the memories back, and made me smile, must have been hard work to do that, thanks mate

  • Nice to hear the originals and not the updated 'dancier' versions for the 2000's like the BBC World Snooker theme.

  • Does anybody have a copy of the songs of praise theme from the 1970's (Church organ music)? Or does anybody re-call the name of the tune?

  • @adeholmes10 - the name of this re-worked by Prizeman, Murphy and Gerahty ident is 'Songs of Praise'!

It's a synthetic daytime TV-esque synthyvoice, synthtrumpet and synthsax and yuk version of the original by Herbert Chappell. This was the far superior 'Songs of Praise' organ solo which some of us 39+ year olds (like Aled - belated Happy Birthday mate!) might remember.

It was, and still is fantasmic, and kicks dust in the face of the 'knocked up in a BBC studio' horror we have today.

  • @timpaws Chappell's original is my definitive Songs of Praise theme too. I remember that mighty pipe organ rippling away in the early 1980s.

  • dont like that version of the BBC snooker theme always prefered the original which I know has been posted on youtube, however all the rest are good

  • this would have been so much better if you had shown the actuial opening credits instead of just a picture of the show in question,.

  • Agreed... Unfortunately though a lot of companies seem to have nothing better to do than look on youtube for things like that and get them removed which kinda prevents anything like that from being posted. :/

  • This is Brilliant! The Royal, Big Break, BBC NEWS, Blue Peter and Emmerdale farm!

  • Parky and BBC Grandstand are by far the best of the ones in here!

  • My mum got me a Breakfast Time Apron, which I wore at school in Home Economics

  • Hearing the Breakfast Time theme reminds me of being 15 years old and getting ready for school in morning, with a bright start to the day!!

  • Congratulations johnmartin1097 - this is a very good posting and wonderful help to quizmasters!!!!!!!!

  • do you have or know where i can get the hadleigh series 1 tv theme.not the tony hatch version i think it was the alan moorhouse orchestra.many thanks

  • grandstand classic theme and q of sport good times !

  • Not just me then topbon2ndvalve :-)

  • The old Emmerdale theme with the wonderful oboe playing on it was so much better than the modernised one. I remember as a lad always tuning in to listen to it (before tuning out quickly before the programme started).

  • This is great! I love the themes from BBC News 2006, Channel 4 1982. How lovely to hear the old Blue Peter theme.. The days when they used to those great special assignments. And happy memories of Saturdays when my late father used to watch Grandstand.. Thank you so much for posting this video.

  • I have never watched the Royal. That's quite a good theme tune!

  • The original theme tune albums by the BBC etc were much better if more expensive;you got the originals as intended NOT some inferior send up by an orchestra or musician.

  • I was born in '89 so I don't remember the majority of the clips, but it was great looking back on stuff from the past. :) But I totally hummed along to Grandstand and Big Break, definitely remember those theme tunes! :D

  • Great, do you have the theme from "songs of praise" from the 1970's? (earlier version of what is on this clip)

  • I enjoyed listening to your collection. Do have Bombay Duck, theme tune from a 1964? BBC tv series called Kipling? love to hear it again. cheers

  • this brings back good memorys thankyou

  • Ah...such nostalgia. BBC Grandstand is the best!

  • i like the question of sport one

  • great tunes

  • In the 70s and early 80s, TV theme LPs were being released all the time - and I bought every one of them! I used to love hearing different orchestra's versions of the tunes; some were dreadful but others were better than the originals. Thanks so much for posting this. Wonderful!

  • Great!!!

  • Absolutely brilliant -- superb thanks for the memories.

  • Nice one!

  • LOL - "I'm gonna be snookering you tonight!"

The mind boggles. Thanks for the emmerdale farm music, though.

  • this was fun to listen to

  • Excellent selection. Thank you very much!
