@lafabricadelcielo I think all of the scenes following people have less to do with what they're saying or doing and more to do with where they are in the school in relation to others. The whole movie is like a connect the dots puzzle. So the point of the scene with girls sitting was for us to see where they were as john was walking out. Also, now we know which part of the school the cafeteria overlooks.

Alex playing the piano was always my favorite part of this film. It shows the difference between Alex and Eric. Eric is a simple minded brute waiting for the massacre, while Alex is the more cultivated and enigmatic of the two, and thus rightfully the leader.

Eric is doing thr school shooting because he is desperate and feels persecuted, so he wants to punish people for it. Whilst Alex on the otherhand is doing the same, but also tapping into a much more complex and difficult pathology as to why people carry out these acts. Alex is the more compelling character. He is using Eric.
