We will need Challengers when the Europeans invade. The Leopard is good on paper. However total of 23 have been deployed, 4 damaged by IED's not fired at or received a single round from another tank, APC or anti tank missile. Unproven.

Chally has longest tank on tank kill, 100% kill ratio, not been put out of action by enemy fire. Still going since the mid 80's. The abrams proved itself time and again. When someone actually uses a Leopard properly then we can see how good it is.

@vitiok8684 Thats true about the tonnage, but the speed is electronically limited because it has enough horse power to throw the tracks off. Marine tanks are limited to 55 mph to avoid damaging the drive gear.

As a USMC 1812 my experience is that the weight of the M1A1Du Heavy tank is ~68 tons. The 54-55 ton GVW holds true for the M1IP and earlier vehicles. And its speed is governed to 45mph not 55mph. But yes the tracks are the weak link. But this isn't a problem since its acceleration excellent. It is a fine machine
