the Motown mono 45 mixes were EQ'ed to be hotter than anything on the radio at that time....they kept the mono mix on 45's longer than most labels going up to 1970 before completely switching to stereo of all their 45's....check the version of "Who's Lovin' You by the Jackson 5 tucked away on the B-side of "I Want You Back" it kills the readily available stereo lp version....
I agree with you 100%. I don't know either. Some of the cd's are in Mono...like the Marvelettes "Deliver The Singles". Mary Wells, Looking back...and a couple of other box sets....
Starting with the hypnotic "A Thrill A Moment", Kim Weston should have crossed over to the Top 40 but here in LA radio would not play her even with fans calling stations and requesting...only LA hit was the classic duet "It Takes Two" then again silence...now all these years later at Macy's "Take Me In Your Arm's" is on the music program and sounds great...Kim should have been a huge Superstar with that great voice!!!
Although I love Diana and all of the other classic Motown artists, Kim Weston could sing circles around any of them possessing the greatest voice from the classic Motown era..."Big Brass Four Poster" is a magnificent lost Kim Weston post-Motown lp masterpiece that is filled with incredible performances and will hopefully someday, somehow be released on cd...the lady can sing!!!
Kim Weston was on a roll when "Helpless" was released but received no airplay and promotion otherwise this totally infectious cooker would have gone to #1 in a flash...a timeless classic that sounds as fresh and exciting as the day it was released...Bravo Kim!!!
You are so right this should have gone to #1 and I believe with airplay it would have along with "Take Me In Your Arms"...these are classic Kim and really the greatest from the classic 60's Motown era...tremendous voice with a burning edge to it that is totally infectious and the more one plays Kim the more she gets to you!!!
Love it!

She should have been. Sorry Diana Ross fans, but Kim sings circles around her! I love "Take Me In Your Arms" as well.
