I agree Coulter's books are rants. But it's incorrect to dismiss Blumenthal's book as some sort of mirror response to the Republican right. 'Republican Gomorrah' is well-researched and extensivley footnoted; it's hardly a "rant." It's a serious, well-reasoned expose of the roots of the far religious right that has hi-jacked the GOP since Reagan's time. As such, it was written as much for moderate Republicans who feel left out of their party as it was for Democrats or liberals.
I havn't read his book, but I have seen plenty of his videos and he uses the same tactics. He quotes people out of context, tries to bring issues like race into the debate, and goes out of his way to attack people instead of ideas. Ann uses sources too. Usually the NYT. Dehumanizing the "Christian right" is unproductive and offensive. It puts a whole lot of people into the camp only a few extremists belong. From what I've seen, the guy has no solutions to anything.

such powers are constitutionally granted . The power to secure the borders, propel invaders (e.g., Nazi saboteurs in WWII) enforce the law etc are granted to the state. Specifically article I section 8 of the constitution is a good start. Likewise read. John Locke's 2nd essay on civil government. "Could abuse" does not mean illegitimate.

I agree Coulter's books are rants. But it's incorrect to dismiss Blumenthal's book as some sort of mirror response to the Republican right. 'Republican Gomorrah' is well-researched and extensivley footnoted; it's hardly a "rant." It's a serious, well-reasoned expose of the roots of the far religious right that has hi-jacked the GOP since Reagan's time. As such, it was written as much for moderate Republicans who feel left out of their party as it was for Democrats or liberals.

I havn't read his book, but I have seen plenty of his videos and he uses the same tactics. He quotes people out of context, tries to bring issues like race into the debate, and goes out of his way to attack people instead of ideas. Ann uses sources too. Usually the NYT. Dehumanizing the "Christian right" is unproductive and offensive. It puts a whole lot of people into the camp only a few extremists belong. From what I've seen, the guy has no solutions to anything.
