I grew up watching "Hockey Night In Canada" and THIS was the theme song. But then I moved out of the area, and lost touch with the show. I see that the NHL Network picks up HNIC on Saturday nights, so now I can enjoy the games again. But somewhere along the line, they changed the theme! I MISS THE MUSIC!!!
That's because CBC lost the bidding rights!! Ctv, and the affiliates bought the rights from the lady who worte it, or owned the rights, whatevs... from the UK!!???

I don't know why Canadians act so stuck up lately. You won the gold medal, I'm happy for you. You also lost the gold medal game in World Juniors IN Canada. So maybe before you act like Canada is so superior to the US in hockey, you should remember that you're 1-1 in gold medal games on Canadian soil. Considering we had to play you in front of your own fans both times I think we look just as good as you do.

@gpfoster1966 they didn't renew the contract for the old/famous hockey night in Canada theme and CTV bough it for TSN broadcasts, I think is what happened.

I realized right now "The Hockey Theme" belongs to Hockey Night in Canada like Monday Night Football in the US and its song go hand in hand. Am I right? I still have no clue how long CTV has the rights for "The Hockey Theme" however. "Canadian Gold" isn't all bad but its predecessor rules "Hockey Night in Canada"!

@newman20072008 The origin of ice hockey is unknown, however, ice hockey probaly evolved from the game of field hockey that has been played in Northern Europe for centuries. The rules we play by were invented by a Canadian, and the first hockey game was played in Montreal. But you have no proof it was invented by a Canadian. Thank you.

You just sight politics which has nothing to do with whos game it is. Yes we lost 2 teams not because we got bored with them but do to the low dollar and Bettmann pulling the plug instantly.
I also know there was a couple teams the folded that where in the states that moved to Canada. Atlanta being one of them (Flames)

@st393736 You have 300 and some million people we have 30 million people but twice as many rinks and enrolment in hockey. We supply 60 % of the NHL players.

@Foxtrot262 last time i checked, the stanley cup wasn't awarded to the country that supplies the most players to the league or has the biggest enrolment. the US could absolutely care less about hockey. even NASCAR, college football, college basketball outdraws hockey. even the national kids spelling bee had higher ratings than the stanley cup final this year!!

@st393736 During the gold medal game did you know that at some point 80 % of the counrty tuned into the game ? Canadians are the most passionate about hockey. Its not our game in terms of where the franchises are or who wins the Stanley Cup or where Gary Bettman lives.
And yes your right the spelling bee probably did outdraw the final it just shows how big hockey is in the states.
Opposed to it would never outdraw the stanley cup final in Canada.

@st393736 Ottawa is still in the league. The league has more teams because the league is trying to force hockey down America's throat. You need to realize the struggling teams in the States...Pheonix? Dallas? All the southern teams...can't play for shit...but they are in the league because the NHL wants the USA to like hockey...when Canada already loves hockey. You can't even bring the 1933 Ottawa Senators into this...think about the team who replaced Ottawa...the Seattle Seals...arethey a team?

@yyyyyyyy250 LOL! then go right ahead. the sad reality is that I don't see australia telling new zealand what to do when it comes to their top professional rugby league, india telling pakistan what to do in cricket, brazil telling argentina what to do in soccer, and so on. each of those countries have their OWN professional leagues while canada SHARES the NHL with the US and they tell you how your OWN league should be run.

@yyyyyyyy250 It's like coming up with an invention that someone worked so hard to create and says: I want someone else to have 80% control over my invention and then telling me what to do, just like the NHL. americans changed the conference names from wales campbell to east west. got rid of ties, gave division leaders automatic playoff spots even though the 3rd best division leader could finish 9th in the conference and STILL qualify for the playoffs and there's nothing you can do about it.

I don't know why Canadians act so stuck up lately. You won the gold medal, I'm happy for you. You also lost the gold medal game in World Juniors IN Canada. So maybe before you act like Canada is so superior to the US in hockey, you should remember that you're 1-1 in gold medal games on Canadian soil. Considering we had to play you in front of your own fans both times I think we look just as good as you do.

@wienerdog6112 BUT, the Nordiques and Jets didn't leave because of attendance. It was rising prices in small markets, which are now remidied with the salary cap and revenue sharing. Winnipeg also has their much-needed new arena, MTS Centre.

I think an issue over Quebec City and the NHL is the virtually Francophone market there. In Montreal, there are French AND English markets however.

@BrownBrother27 Yeah. But Montreal also had a team most everyone else hated as well as a deep passion for hockey, which I would assume exists in Quebec City. I think it can work, considering it was working for nearly 20 years in the NHL.
