Harding took office in 1921 and fixed the problem in less than 2 years by cutting spending and giving tax breaks taxes. The complete opposite of what Obama and FDR have done.
measures taken in 1920 did not alleviate the problem cuz there was a bigger depression in 1929. the reason the new deal did not work is because we did not continue with it. FDR would start the programs in the fall and spring, stop it in the summer. the economy would get a little better. what REALLY got us out was WW2. The depression brought about in 1929 was due to completely different reasons than the one in 1920. The two are not connected. Not mention after Harding took those measure we had huge economic growth in this little period called the roaring 20's. The huge spending in WW2 was due to need, the need to make war goods, not trying to artificially create need by spending money on government projects. I don't think people realize that in comparison, this deficit is not as abnormal as they say. The senator said our debt was 'unprecedented' at 12% of the GDP. That is completely wrong number for one and two if it was that, it would be the greatest thing in over 60 years. The last time the percent deficit was below 50% was in 1970. During WW2 it was 120% As long as the economy comes back and we start paying off the debt, it should be ok.

The New Deal was passed in 1933, it took almost a full decade to bring America out of the depression. Many economists say it made things worse. In 1920 there was a huge recession, the first year of unemployment was worse than the first year of the great depression in 1929. Warren G. Harding took office in 1921 and fixed the problem in less than 2 years by cutting spending and giving tax breaks taxes. The complete opposite of what Obama and FDR have done.

measures taken in 1920 did not alleviate the problem cuz there was a bigger depression in 1929. the reason the new deal did not work is because we did not continue with it. FDR would start the programs in the fall and spring, stop it in the summer. the economy would get a little better. what REALLY got us out was WW2. The depression brought about in 1929 was due to completely different reasons than the one in 1920. The two are not connected. Not mention after Harding took those measure we had huge economic growth in this little period called the roaring 20's. The huge spending in WW2 was due to need, the need to make war goods, not trying to artificially create need by spending money on government projects. We're 11.5 trillion in debt and we're supposed to spend more?

if we want to alleviate the depression we are in, yes. we have to spend more. the depression is not due to the monetary deficit, but from the lack of money circulating in the economy. banks do not hAve the money to lend out to businesses. businesses do not have the moeny to spend on employees and products. businesses close and people are unemployed. cutting spending is not going to help that

So assigning 100% blame on the former administration is supposed to be fair since assigning the current 100% blame is? How about a number like 70/30, 60/40, or 50/50... It seems if you insist on assigning a 100%/0% blame then it would seem logical to alot the 100% blame to the administration able to stop the proceeding, which would be the current, obv.

I don't think people realize that in comparison, this deficit is not as abnormal as they say. The senator said our debt was 'unprecedented' at 12% of the GDP. That is completely wrong number for one and two if it was that, it would be the greatest thing in over 60 years. The last time the percent deficit was below 50% was in 1970. During WW2 it was 120% As long as the economy comes back and we start paying off the debt, it should be ok.

There was no hope to deflate the bubble more slowly because of the recession caused by the Iraq War - the Feds' reaction to inflation caused by high oil prices caused by the Iraq War. The Stimulus will work. During the Great Depression, government let free markets reign and banks collapsed. WWII ended the depression...aka government spending on the war. Obama is spending on other things like bridges and roads instead of bombers.

You're right about this. Our economy performed very well under Clinton, much to his credit.
However Clinton couldn't get his best economic ideas passed, if the G.O.P. had not taken over Congress. For example, neither welfare reform, the 1998 capital gains tax cut nor the China WTO deal would have happened.
Plus a Democratic Congress would never have let Clinton sabotage the Kyoto treaty.
Gingrich, Dole and Lott deserve much of the credit for Clinton's success in office.

6 of Clinton's 8 years had Republican control of the house and hence the agenda. The last two years of Bushes term had Democrat control of both Congress and the Senate. Its never cut and dry one side alone to take the blame. sure its not all the democrats fault, but its not all the repubs either. Both parties and many people in both parties share massive amounts of blame for all of this. These are the people who should be punished.

Money is not an object, although for many it is the object of their desire. Money is simply a tool of measurement of real wealth. Wealth being that which gives us better food, clothing, shelter etc. Fixing the Financial Markets first is akin to adjusting your thermometer not thermostat instead of buying and wearing a sweater.
