  • @blackops777 Your not a skipper your a 8year old boy.

  • @blackops777 No shit u skipper dude! UR NAME IS BLACKOPS!

  • Seafarmers! what can u say, the video says it all

  • what are they really doing?

are they just going someplace and the waves are just a pert of getting there?

  • @AlanMolstad do you realize they are battling the conditions of the ocean and the out flowing river they are coming out of? What are they suppose to do wait for the river to stop flowing? Use ur brain.

  • @shuttletruck

    Not from this video...

But from others that show the same guys as well as other boats, and what you learn is that most of the other Skippers and most of the people that live in that area consider these guys fools for going in when they did.

There seems to be a better time and everyone knows when its safe, except for the guys in this video.

  • @AlanMolstad

You are correct 100%, it was crazy to attempt what they did. I have video of these 2 boats shortly after this was taken, they were barely able to make any headway up the river as it was flowing so fast. Usually the idea is to get through the bar as quickly as possible, with such a strong current the boat is trapped in the danger zone for far too long. These guys would have been crapping themselves, once they were committed they had no choice but to cross as you can't turn back.

  • @slooob23 Yes, at some point this must have seen like a good idea, and once they decided to go...it was too late.

If nothing else, these guys ended up with the best story in the bar ...or pub, it this case.

  • Skippers don't seem to give a shit, just come back in at 2/3 throttle, testimony to the boat stability ..oh and a good bilge pump.

  • That NZ brown water Bar is some nasty looking stuff. Great filming, steady cam. Great seamanship. BTW 'Graveyard of the Pacific' is name given the US west coast around the Columbia River Bar between Oregon and Washington USA. CG from around the world come to train during stormy winter months. 30 + foot waves are often giving fits to the International container ships and pilots. Excellent Maritime CG museum at Astoria Oregon. Good post, thanks.

  • thanks a million for such an incredible upload seldom seen.by city dwellers.

  • made tears in my eyes, I dont know how these guys do it!

  • its too scary there

  • I wish where there...........

  • This must have been a rough ride. But the footage was produced with a telelens. You get the impression that the vessels often dive deep into the water because waves near to the camera cover it from sight. Nevertheless it looks dangerous. My own videos of my tours in a boat around Berlin, the German capital, never show any significant waves. If you want to see something more relaxing, watch my boatvideos. Never mind the german titles of some. The pictures tell the story.

  • This lot are hardcore..these brave men...LOL, there fckn DUMB if you ask me!

  • This lot are hardcore!

  • Mmmmhm, fishpudding

  • This would have been a "White knuckle" moment lucky that these Skippers where on there game..True Seasoned Southern Fisherman..Thumbs up too you Geoff awesome footage..

  • Surfs up, Dude!!!

  • holy shit man

  • Awesome footage can be bought from nhnz moving images

  • And this seemed like a good idea because.........

  • uta si estaba batida el agua!

  • did they sink?

  • Is this real? What are they fishing?Gold may be.

  • They are fishing?! For what?! Only reason I would perpetrate theft (or violate copyright laws) upon the owner of this video is to make someone sea sick!

  • Gilligan, grab me a brew from the cooler on deck....

  • They are doing that just for fun! The fish are made in a factory and everybody earn their day driving to a job and sitting in front of a computer all day long! Macho what macho?

  • super skill pilot combine with a good boat. bravo guyss

  • stupid and macho... shouldn't have gone out in the first place... Potentially puttting lifeboat men at risk and their loved ones through the unthinkable

  • stupid and macho

  • Why does it look like they aren't trying to move, I would Fucking floor it

  • @twotwentietwo Because very few boats have the traction and power to accelerate up such steep waves before being dragged backwards again. My own boat, much smaller, ran sick on one cylinder the other week, only managing about 12 knots. That's about 17mph or so - but slow enough to feel following waves slow it down to a crawl when coming back from the sea into the river. One or two knots slower and I'd have had water coming over the stern. Those fishing boats probably only hit 10 knots at best

  • great video !!!!

qui nous demontre les dangers de ce metier, on se sent tout petit, superbe

  • Sea, you scarry!

  • Soo... did they catch anything?

  • why don't they keep it against the waves safer

  • @shawnyboie

Their crossing a bar...That is when they are leaving the ocean, and going into a river port. This is the most dangerous part of the trip. These fishermen have huge kahunas!

  • @blackops777

yea we have a 45 foot boat crab fishing and danish seine boat in cape breton and we try out best not to go out when its too rough theres only 3 of us

  • I felt like I could taste the salt water! Great video!

  • Give er another hundred

  • Jus' saying HOLY CRAP, doesn't cover it.

    W-O-W, thanks.

  • Great footage and camera work, thank you! This is where it's especially nice to have a heavy, displacement hull that can shed gobs of water! My planing sportfish would be wallowing all over the place and be most assuredly at the bottom in seas like that.

  • Tide swaps ftl. Always happens around 3:00pm in our bay when were hauling the last of our traps. Makes a 30mins process into a 2hr process.

  • It's the Andrea Gail!!!!!!

  • I think those guys have amazing boating skills!

  • Evidentemente controlan la zona

  • ...nice bit of kiwi driving!

  • Professionals or not . they are crazy .Tough way to make a living. I tip my hat to those guys.

  • I just made 1.5 million dollars with your video, please tolerate it, hahahaha

No just kidding, great video congrtatulations

  • another day of fishing

  • I'm going to use this video what you gonna do about it Geoff.

  • Great video. Very impressing.

  • what gutsy little boats!!!!!!!!! Never complain at the price of prawns etc!!!!!!

  • That is a nasty bar crossing with the current running out of a swollen river. Curious how much catch was onboard during their trek back to port?? Was that an outrigger on the starboard side of the blue F/V? If so do they only run one? I would seem two would have balanced out the boat a bit more?

  • @OregonBoysVideo It looks as if the other stabilizer was broken off.

  • fuck me silly!!! them skippers need birching,

  • please, you people have no idea what you are commenting on... these fisherman where warned to stay at sea, ie too rough conditions to enter the bar, they fucking ignored it cos the captains wanted a drink and hence endangered the whole crew,if they hav'nt been, they should they have been run out of greymouth for there stupidity... this aint a game.

  • XTREME FISHING

  • 1 word... Boss

  • Do they (the fishermen) have to face this every now and then?... they must be the bravest men alive to face this kind of weather.!! salute to them....

  • This video is extra cool because it doesn't have annoying music dubbed into it……...

  • @teamdoggie

    Damn you are soooo right!

  • Try that in a Bayliner…….

  • это невероятно(rus)

  • Comment removed

  • Holy Shit!!

  • " Hey Frank, find that 5 gallon bucket and go back there and start bailing, and grab me a sandwich when your down there"

  • These captains give a new meaning to balls of steel

  • Holy crap!

  • if these guy did not know what they are doing byby great job they look like it ok np i would b scared

  • i think rough may be an understatement..

  • A great day to bust your gear on.

  • IM NOT A SEMAN AND IM VERY CURIOS HOW THE BOAT STAYS IN THAT SPOT. ARE THEY USING ANCHORS OR THE ENGINES?

  • Wow..... RESPECT from Bristol Bay

  • if they wanted fish that bad they should have just gone to the supermarket!

  • beautiful footage brother!

  • I don't see them pulling out many fish!!

  • Always good to know what she can handle.

  • they have square balls O.O

  • I like this vid so much I'm going to pinch it. There done STOLEN for ever !!! Ha Haaaa!

  • Anywhere where there is sandbars is dangerous you have to know them really well to handle them, and even then its hairy. I woud have thought that these guys were knowledgeable but I wonder if they tried it again in the same condtions.

  • There dont have the engine power the tide is running at like 15 knts and there doing like 9knts

  • You can do this bar crossing in flood if you know what your doing and your have heaps of engine power this boat cant power into the waves

  • I'd have phoned in sick myself!

  • I hate bars!

  • Rafting...like a boss

  • seems lik a bad day for fishing

  • did they actually make it in?

  • did it sink after you stoped recording?

  • This video is now mine and i am using it on a number of my own productions. this this ok with the user?

  • I have worked at sea all my life and frankly I would not have wanted to be in those steep seas in such small vessels. I guess one has to trust to these guys local knowledge which is priceless but I can't imagine they were very happy either.

  • This man really has some big balls

  • I have the utmost respect and admiration for the men on this boat and for all fishermen everywhere .

  • anybody else feel the urge to take a jon boat out there?

  • I'm a sailor - but I love these sturdy boat too!

  • I'd float that shit with some fucking water wings and a god damned inflatable ducky around my big belly. Go find some big waves why don't ya??

  • Bloody good seamanship,10 out of 10,been in similar situations not as bad as it looks, when you are down amongst the swells it's kind of fun and gets the adrenalain pumping, great guys, loved to have been there....

  • Running before a breaking sea is Not a good idea. What were they thinking ??

  • thats hardout!!!!!wicked!!!!!!!!!

  • That is one ballsy guy to get out on the deck to take photos while the boat is being tossed around. I'd be in the pilot house wishing I had a fresh pair of shorts on...

Hey, someone out to add this as a new attraction at Disneyland and call it the Grey River Death Ride!

  • The angle makes it look worse than it was, the boats were never 'underwater', at worst they just took a lot of water over the sides when the waves broke against them. Actually, it looks like they were playing in the surf with the boats, since there was calmer water to the sides. Usually a 'bar' is a pile of sand straight out from the mouth of a river, and the safest way in is around the sides.

  • @prometheanspark . Its not the angle and there are is no way around the sides. They were not playing rather praying as once you start there is no turning back. These to skippers may well have killed themselves and there innocent crew. It is probably the stupidest bar crossing i have witnessed in my 15 years as a skipper.

  • @kingriki123 mate you dont know what you are talking about, what are you a skipper of? a river ferry?? these men are doing there job, your one of there do-gooders that sit on their ass and complain about everything. i have my master coxswains, yes these man may have been killed but we all risk the same thing, to do our job and make money. so please shut the fuck up bud
