What a great tune ...Played accoustic on mini album Eldorado thats the songs official name it came out around 1989 after he toured with his band at the time called The Restless. The mini album 5 tracks was only released in Australia origionally because allegedly Neil Youngs record company did not like his really heavy sound he started to experiment with and the album he gave them called Times Square.which had all the Eldorado tunes plus others on it .They were mistaken though
For all Old man - You don't know how to dance, your football was slow and borring. You had a shit taste 'bout clothes..your movies - epic or bottom. Cars? Some legend, some rusting piece of junk...But Your music? I don't know how and why...
There is no way for any of generation to even match with the perfection of old music. Peace of soul, kingdom of heaven...Neil Young forever.
purely from sound of it, early 90's cause it's got the maturity and monumental punch and characteristics of this band in what seems to me as their golden decade. crazy horse where are you?
I had to come back for another listen. I love the arangement of intruments here. Love the rhythm guitar work. Adds an entire demension that the version I have up on my channel doesn't have. This is my favorite version. Hey but neil is Neil and 99% of the music he does is off the charts. A cherished gift to the world he is. ~cg
love the freedom version. this is great too. amazing how nielistic he is when transforming.
such fun creative genius. nihilistique. i think the lyrics on the orig are more succinct and powerful. the music more precise. both are good to dance to or jam with or just dream and pretend your niel. fred neal
I'm glad it wasn't on life to be honest... it'd have been messy, with the awful production that ruined said album (take around the world for example)... I'm hoping that the archives #3 might include some live stuff like this.
still, rockin version and a crunching riff, awesome
Road Of Plenty should have made it on the "Life" Album in 1987 but did not. The tune emerged then on 'Freedom' in 1989 as Eldorado with differing words. On Road of Plenty the 5th & 6th verses became the 2nd & 4th verses in Eldorado. I prefer the more dramatic musical in Eldorado however both are great songs. Thanks BrokenArrow24 for uploading these rare tunes.
Changed info for this song. You're right, it cant be 1991. Dont remember, from which compilation i got the recording, but I just took the existing labeling. Which turned out to be wrong ;).
The setlist from '91 in Minneapolis does not show this song as having been performed. How do you know this is the source? It sounds like the '91 Old Black, but perhaps it is just a very high quality recording from the '86 tour (which have the only known performances of this song).
I'm tempted to call BS and say this is a mislabeled '86 performance.
This is BS. The only time Neil ever played "Road of Plenty" was during the 86'-87' tours during the time he was touring "Life". 91' when he was finishing touring "Ragged Glory" and had started his solo acoustic tour for "Harvest Moon".
... merely italicizing: where the frickin' L is crazy horse, swept under the rug?, nary a word i've heard, of what went down? love nashville cats mostly on euro leg, but really miss both barrels only neil w/crazy horse can deliver live...
Neil reunited with Buffalo Springfield in 1986 and they were working on this song. There was a home video of it with pretty bad picture quality but it was still cool to see. It was on YouTube for a while. When nothing happened with Buffalo Springfield, Neil took this song on the road with Crazy Horse but it was never released until it ended up as "Eldorado" on the album Freedom. There's a great live solo acoustic version of "Eldorado" on a popular Amsterdam 1989 bootleg.
this is great exelent
