What a fantastic actress liza was, the 'strerile cuckoo' is another great film of hers. The scene where her date attacks her with the battery acid is truly horrible to watch .

It's such a beautiful movie, so touching and sweet. I love it that three disabled people are portraited as strong persons, not poor cripples. I love it that a disfigured girl can be a heroine. I love it that blacks and whites are all together and that homosexuality isn't treated as something strange. And the acting is great. Junie Moon is my heroine. I even find her beautiful.

That death scene was as moving as in Shakespeare's King Lear, when Lear holds his daughter Cordelia's dead body and realizes "she'll not come again; she's dead as earth." And Liza's "howl, howl, howl, howl, howl!" A great, poignant movie ... the kind that edifies and sensitizes humanity.
