Yep it's Mossy on the track and Barnes singing backing vocals. The late Harvey James in the video who was a great guitar player in his own right and a lovely guy. RIP Harvey.
Who's the lead guitarist in this video, anyone know?
He's really got music in his fingers … smooth, expressive style, not too much of a speed freak … Got some of Mossy's fluidity of playing without sounding anything like Mossy.
@WellMeaningGentleman , the term, "you've got to have a lot of talent to be a successful solo pop/rock artist in the seventies with those looks." always springs to my mind. I'm amazed the suits didn't keep him in a back room doing the songwriting and pick some half-way good-looking bloke to at least lip-sync in the videos, at least at the beginning of his career. I grew up with his music and it's remained a part of my internal musical landscape, which is more than I can say for most artists.
Had to look this up as an RIP to Harvey James, who died on Saturday night. It is him in the clip (Mossy never had hips like that!), but he's miming. Mind you, I don't doubt he could've played it. Sigh.
@TheChrisjsmith Harvey James was playing guitar in ONE of the film clips, but it Ian Moss who actually played on the track. He was uncredited on the album.
well clearly he didn't play the solo to this song, as seen in the clip, it's the guy with the white shirt and the red strat. Who does look a bit like Ian Moss
Hi Oz Top Gun... I saw Jimmy Barnes last year in Germany and Paris and yes, he can still hit those high notes! In fact he is singing better now than ever.
@RettroDood Great song memorys of listening to 3xy am station many decades ago , by the way thats Ian moss playing lead guitar on that track ' listen to his key signiture licks, stands out a mile'.
This is from Wikipedia "The 1980s saw Clapton play less of a central role in the music industry, although 1982's The Great Escape (featuring contributions from members of Cold Chisel and INXS) sold strongly and contained memorable singles in the hard-rock "I Am an Island" (which featured Cold Chisel members Ian Moss on guitar and Jimmy Barnes on backing vocals)" Harvey probably played on it also, Just that Moss & Barnes were guests!
@deadjailorrocknroll Clapper one of the best guitarists??? Sorry Morry but he may play guitar but one of the best.? Doubt he could play lead good enough
Richard Clapton....the other Clapton, a world class musician that never got the international attention he deserved. So great to see his work on youtube! This Yank'll never forget the show I saw him perform at the Palm Beach Surf Club in the Aussie Summer of '88, MAGIC!

Taking nothing away from him as he's tops. But looking at him in this clip, the term "Boofhead come to mind".

Harvey James, (Ariel, Sherbert, Sherbs, Mississippi), at his best on guitar for Richard Clapton. Harv looks nothing like Mossy!

Barnsey also did the backups for this song on one of Clapton's tours in the late '90's with Vanetta Fields.

Always thought Barnsey did the back up vocals on the original single?

Yeah, it looks like Harvey james from Sherbet, but I think it's Ian Moss. That's gotta be Jimmy Barnes singing background vocals...

Correct Mossy on guitar, Barnesy on BG/VOCALS.

It's a well known fact that Ian Moss played lead on this track.

i dont see him credited on the back of the album cover... even if he did, there is no suggestion he played on this track.
