  • Yep it's Mossy on the track and Barnes singing backing vocals. The late Harvey James in the video who was a great guitar player in his own right and a lovely guy. RIP Harvey.

  • i put him way in front of that other Clapton . and he's not famous for doing terrible versions of JJ Cale songs either

  • Who's the lead guitarist in this video, anyone know?

He's really got music in his fingers … smooth, expressive style, not too much of a speed freak … Got some of Mossy's fluidity of playing without sounding anything like Mossy.

    Anybody?

  • @Gairlochan its Harvey James , played for Sherbet in the late seventies

  • Taking nothing away from him as he's tops. But looking at him in this clip, the term "Boofhead come to mind".

  • @WellMeaningGentleman , the term, "you've got to have a lot of talent to be a successful solo pop/rock artist in the seventies with those looks." always springs to my mind. I'm amazed the suits didn't keep him in a back room doing the songwriting and pick some half-way good-looking bloke to at least lip-sync in the videos, at least at the beginning of his career. I grew up with his music and it's remained a part of my internal musical landscape, which is more than I can say for most artists.

  • Harvey James, (Ariel, Sherbert, Sherbs, Mississippi), at his best on guitar for Richard Clapton. Harv looks nothing like Mossy!

  • @TheChrisjsmith Harvey James was playing guitar in ONE of the film clips, but it Ian Moss who actually played on the track. He was uncredited on the album.

  • harvey james been with richard clapton since he left sherbet (the sherbs )

  • well clearly he didn't play the solo to this song, as seen in the clip, it's the guy with the white shirt and the red strat. Who does look a bit like Ian Moss

  • I won a week on HamiltonIsland for requessting this song on sea-Fm back in the day he's cool

  • haha great backing vocals by Mr Jim Barnes... no that voice anywhere

  • Would like to see the version he did with barnesy on vocals about 20 years ago.

  • Nice song

  • Great groove.

  • Hi Oz Top Gun... I saw Jimmy Barnes last year in Germany and Paris and yes, he can still hit those high notes! In fact he is singing better now than ever.

  • best song ever 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 stars

  • How good is this compaired to the shit we are delivered in music today????

    This song is a killer.....

  • An amazing song and video....thanks mission507 for the share !!!

    5/5 stars *************

  • Such a fantastic song...& that still even now, dam well sounds incredible/ * * * * * * 6 stars

  • Barnsey also did the backups for this song on one of Clapton's tours in the late '90's with Vanetta Fields.

  • Always thought Barnsey did the back up vocals on the original single?

  • I love this song, I just returned from Sydney and saw this dude in Hornsby...

He still looks the same and what a smile he has, was awesome meeting him... my hubby was getting jealous...lol.. thanks for sharing the clip

  • Yeah you can really pick that high register of Jimmy Barnes on the chorus

  • oh, Inever noticed it before. Having Barnesy as a back up singer is pretty cool!

  • Wonder if Barnesy can still hit those top notes????

  • thank you 1982 what a year

  • For all you RC fans. Take a look at the Concert i have posted in five parts, from the "Solidarity" tour.

    Amazing!!

  • @RettroDood Great song memorys of listening to 3xy am station many decades ago , by the way thats Ian moss playing lead guitar on that track ' listen to his key signiture licks, stands out a mile'.

  • This song still kicks, along with all the crazy memories! Fuck yeah!

  • ORGASMIC!

  • One of my all time favourite tracks, the guitarist in this carves it up real good!!!

    Thanks heaps...

  • Yeah, it looks like Harvey james from Sherbet, but I think it's Ian Moss. That's gotta be Jimmy Barnes singing background vocals...

  • Correct Mossy on guitar, Barnesy on BG/VOCALS.

  • Are you sure? I know it sounds like Mossy, but I have this album and it says Harvey plays the guitar

  • This is from Wikipedia "The 1980s saw Clapton play less of a central role in the music industry, although 1982's The Great Escape (featuring contributions from members of Cold Chisel and INXS) sold strongly and contained memorable singles in the hard-rock "I Am an Island" (which featured Cold Chisel members Ian Moss on guitar and Jimmy Barnes on backing vocals)" Harvey probably played on it also, Just that Moss & Barnes were guests!

  • Bugger wiki...I KNOW it was Harvey for a concrete fact...nuff said *wink wink*

  • LOL It's Glen A FUCKING Baker!

  • Harvey James played the guitar on the film clip but the actual player was Ian Moss.

  • wot ? clapton is know as one of the best guitarists of not only his era, but in th history of oz music, why would mossy be playin the guitar ?

    thats not mossy`s tone, anyhow...

  • It's a well known fact that Ian Moss played lead on this track.

  • i dont see him credited on the back of the album cover... even if he did, there is no suggestion he played on this track.

  • @deadjailorrocknroll Clapper one of the best guitarists??? Sorry Morry but he may play guitar but one of the best.? Doubt he could play lead good enough

  • @wuuudo No it was Harvey.

  • Richard Clapton....the other Clapton, a world class musician that never got the international attention he deserved. So great to see his work on youtube! This Yank'll never forget the show I saw him perform at the Palm Beach Surf Club in the Aussie Summer of '88, MAGIC!

  • @cemott3rd Was there as well talk about a legend!!!

  • @cemott3rd the other clapton your talking about is eric clapton hes best song i recon was coacain.

  • Thanks for this!
