WOW!!! I totally loved the dixie - Indiana at the end, I have always wanted to do that to Donna Lee (which of course is just a modal reharmonization of Indiana). you guys are great!
seems a little to put on not much feeling or even expression. It's like they just play the notes not really putting any feeling in the piece(goes for the solos too). the solos weren't built up either that takes a lot away from the solo if you don't build it up to something.
@d0115042 - its not entirely the school systems fault ( or even majority). its the work ethic of american youth(result of our upbringing). instant gratification has become the only thing that matters.
VERY respectable job! If I were your director, I'd be very pleased with your performance...and if I were a judge, I'd rate you very well in a contest!
lol obviously the begining is not improv... its donna lees chorus.. i know it doesnt sound like an usual solo but thats bebop :D.. and i believe the rest is improv since its not so good xD
Nice. Not too many girl trumpet players out there. It's a very good effort, but if you'd like some commentary, let the solos be more fluid and sound less like they're rehearsed solos (I could tell that was the same solo or at least the same licks that you practiced)
Is this a high school band by the way? Keep up the hard work
Wow are you guys seriously talking about race when it comes to music? There have been plenty of jazz greats who weren't black? And the list goes on man!! Music is universal. Don't dig into racism when it comes to playing my friends, its absurd and it will lead you nowhere. - Jackie Mclean (mixed) - Conrad Herwig - Bob McChesnay -Artuo Sanduval -Zoot SIMS -Frank Rosolino -Maynard Ferguson -Chet Baker -Tommy Dorsey -Kid Ory (mixed) - Bill Harris -Jack Teagarden
That is a racist remark, They are dedicated, focused, ambitious, and have a lot of soul, but they might not hang that out, but they practise, koreans are more funny and cheaky.
haha, yes they have dedication, focus, ambition, but the only soul they have is what you can learn out of a book. Racist remark? It's the truth man. Black people are good at sports, racist comment ? it's completely true, 90% of deffensive f.ball players are black. 90% of asians, or "orientals", have no soul.
Although I wouldn't go as far as too say that all Asians lack soul, this particular performance does lack swing and soul. At a technical level, though, it's awesome.
Just to point out, to essentialise anyone on the basis of their race is technically 'racist', well meaning or not. But i'm with you on the fact to say 'it's lacks soul... As with most asians' is both grammatically and morally WAY out of line.
I have heard some white young people singing or playing Blues. It always sounded artificial, maybe they havn't suffered enough. A lot of good music is performed here(NZ) by our Maoris, maybe their parents still sing at their bedside at night.
How is that ethnically specific? 'White young people' can also suffer from drugs. And Miles was born into a well-off middle class family, so any other suffering was quite nominal. You're on pretty shakey ground making general claims about race and musical ability.
Amazing, and the girls are really pretty, made sure that Bird an Diz would have been veeery pleased about these, and not only for the fabulous legs of these angels.

@saske2233 Japanese are soulful people but they run very cool as in cool jazz. I miss Tokyo terribly. Way hipper than New York and London.

great musicians and nice solos. The rhythm needs a bit of work I think. It needs to swing along, slight, but authoritative too.

You must be a black Asian to have such insight???, Indians(asian) are the most caring people full of devotion to family.
Cold bad Eggs you can find anywhere ,they usually are in administration and politics.
There is cultural behaviour differences. But
its not genetic.

U R right. It seems so with many school bands, they learn how to read music, if you learn by ear you learn the soul-fullness too.
Like language , we first learn by ear without worrying about spelling and grammer.
