Carver did a lot to help Randy but he could've done wonders by adopting him. But of course this show being very realistic shows that there is no happy ending for Randy. Carver being the young man that he is, clearly doesn't want children as there has been no indication that he wants to start a family (you only see his girlfriend once). On top of that, by season 5, Randy is still in the group home even after there would have been plenty of time for his foster mother to recover from her wounds.

I used to manage group homes years ago...and it was fucking heartbreaking sometimes. One kid on Christmas started crying when we gave him just a few gifts. He told us his mom told him white people were evil...I hugged him...told him that some of all people are evil kid..but here we love ya...still chokes me up thinking about it. It's so hard for those kids...fucked up beyond what anyone could know...

This was the turning point in Carver's direction as a man. Carver and Herc were a good duo but, morally corrupt officers earlier in their careers. Carver really matured in season 4 by learning from his mistakes (Hamsterdam) while trying to connect with the corner kids out in the streets. I think he saw much of himself as a youngster in Randy and tried to protect him from the mean streets that eventually claimed him.

As a young kid my mom could not take care of me anymore, so i was placed in a orphanage. even tough, i didnt realize as a kid, but the people at the orphanage have learning me some good things, that makes me the happy loving man i am today. it gives me a good feeling knowing the fact that there are people who will and take care of this kids as one of their owns.

This was the turning point in Carver's direction as a man. Carver and Herc were a good duo but, morally corrupt officers earlier in their careers. Carver really matured in season 4 by learning from his mistakes (Hamsterdam) while trying to connect with the corner kids out in the streets. I think he saw much of himself as a youngster in Randy and tried to protect him from the mean streets that eventually claimed him.

Randy had it good! The foster mom was strick, but that is what parents must do in the hood to save the boys from the corner and all the other mess. But Randy, just could not get enough. The woman dressed him well, gave him a clean home, and enough guidance to keep him straight. However, if he had enough brains to hustle money by selling candy in school, he could have avoided this altogether.
